Week 4 NFL Survivor Picks

Well, for two weeks, we were good. Things were cruising right along, relatively drama-free from a Survivor perspective. And then, poof, there goes that idea.

The Green Bay Packers were kind enough to remind us that anything can happen on any given day in the NFL. Who cares that the Packers embarrassed the Detroit Lions in Week 1. Then, they dispatched the Washington Commanders with ease, so facing the Cleveland Browns should have been easy work. After all, the Browns looked dreadful against the Baltimore Ravens as well. But then, the teams took the field in Week 3. Now, what appeared to be a sure thing resulted in a lost Survivor entry. It’s simply a reminder that whatever we think we know can’t be taken to the bank. All we can do is chug along, so let’s dig into some Week 4 NFL Survivor Picks.

Week 4 NFL Survivor Picks

1. Buffalo Bills vs. New Orleans Saints – Bills -15.5

There’s going to be a school of thought that saving the Buffalo Bills is the prudent strategy. However, if we are going to look at Week 4 in a vacuum, then how can the Bills not be the number one choice? Again, this is just based on the team we think has the best chance to win. After riding with the Seattle Seahawks over the New Orleans Saints last week, it’s clear there’s a path to victory here.

Simply, target the Saints each week. Spencer Rattler doesn’t generate much fear in opposing defenses and has 639 passing yards in three games. From a defensive perspective, New Orleans is allowing 30 points per game.

In this case, did we also mention how good the Bills truly are? Tied for first with 425 yards per game and ranked fourth with 34 points per game, Buffalo is a force to be reckoned with.

2. Detroit Lions vs. Cleveland Browns – Lions -9.5

Did I not read what I wrote above? Yes, the Browns shocked the Packers last week end sent a lot of Survivor entries right to the trash. At the same time though, they are still the Browns.

After the Lions were embarrassed by the Packers in Week 1, things have gotten progressively better for Detroit. The Chicago Bears never stood a chance in Week 2, and then the Lions dispatched the Baltimore Ravens on the road with ease last week.

Quinshon Judkins did emerge as a clear number one back last week, but if Detroit’s offense jumps out to a big lead, they can shut the running game down. Ranked 11th in the league with 99 rushing yards per game, that’s been a common thread for the Lions. When it gets to that point, can we expect Joe Flacco to outduel Detroit’s offense?

So far this season, the Lions are ranked fourth in total yards, 403, and second in points, 34.3, per game. Yes, the Browns’ defense is ranked first in total yards (231), but they are tied for 18th with 23 points per game.

After seeing last week’s game, there is an inclination to fade Detroit, but they are the better team. Remember, it’s Flacco who’s playing quarterback for Cleveland.

3. Houston Texans vs. Tennessee Titans – Texans – 7.5

While the Tennessee Titans are working towards building in the right direction, they aren’t there yet. Cam Ward is showing flashes, but he’s still a rookie quarterback who has a lot to learn in his adjustment to the NFL.

This is a matchup between two 0-3 teams, which means someone has to pick up the victory. Yes, I know there could be a tie, but we don’t want to go there. Instead, let’s think positive.

If we go based on expectations prior to the season, then there’s really no contest here. Houston is due to get their first victory.

Of course, we want to go deeper than that, but the Texans are the better team here despite the same records. From a statistical standpoint, neither team stands out here. What gives Houston the edge, though, is their defense. So far this season, the Texans are tied for fifth with 17 points allowed per game. That’s going to be the edge for Houston.

4. Green Bay Packers at Dallas Cowboys – Packers -6.5

With Micah Parsons returning to Dallas, to say that there are some intriguing storylines would be an understatement. Both teams enter Week 4 on the heels of a loss, but it’s the Green Bay Packers who are the better team.

The Dallas Cowboys allowed 37 points to Russell Wilson, and he’s no longer the starting quarterback for the New York Giants. With CeeDee Lamb sidelined, the Cowboys are also without a major part of their offense.

After an upset loss last week, the Green Bay Packers are going to be hungry to make up for it. They have the talent advantage, so let’s look for the victory with our survivor pick.
