Week 6 MOP Rankings

Before we officially turn the page to Week 7 in the NFL, I am taking a quick look back at the Week 6 Minus One Play rankings. These rankings remove every player’s highest-scoring play to create a new set of rankings. The MOP rankings favor volume over unsustainable splash plays and are based on Half-PPR scoring settings. Below is how each running back, wide receiver, and tight end ranked compared with their traditional rankings in Half-PPR formats. I added a few notes on some performances that piqued my interest last week and how I view the players involved going forward. Blanket statements rarely apply in fantasy football, as every league is different. So these rankings and recommendations may vary from league to league depending on your circumstances. With that said, here are the Week 6 MOP rankings.

Week 6 MOP Rankings

Running Back Takeaways

Fantasy circles were talking a lot last week about Buffalo Bills running back James Cook’s fumbling issues. There was much less talk about Cam Skattebo, who also fumbled four times in fewer than 100 touches over five weeks. Well, that certainly changed quickly, considering what happened last week. Skattebo played just six snaps and did not touch the ball as the Giants lost to the New Orleans Saints. Instead, Tryone Tracy Jr. scored two touchdowns while leading a three-way committee with Najee Harris and Devin Singletary. This feels like a situation to avoid in the short term. While I wouldn’t chase last week’s points, Tracy is the Giant running back I would add if you have roster flexibility. He’s rostered in only 41 percent of Fantrax leagues.

Alvin Kamara posted an RB1 performance in 10- and 12-team leagues last week. But Kendre Miller led the way among Saints running backs in the Week 6 MOP rankings. A 31-yard touchdown catch-and-run boosted Kamara’s output. While that play flashed some of the veteran’s patented elusiveness, Kamara only touched the ball nine times, while Miller earned 22 touches. As fantasy football managers, we know that volume is the most valuable currency. Because of that, I would prefer to start Miller if I am starting a New Orleans running back this week. Keep in mind that the Saints are off in Week 8, and Travis Etienne Jr. is eligible to come off Injured Reserve after that.

I was traveling over the weekend, but I didn’t realize I had traveled back to 2022 until I saw Bam Knight and Pierre Strong Jr. put up RB2 numbers in 12-team leagues. Knight outperformed Tyler Allgeier in Arizona’s upset victory against the Los Angeles Rams. Strong was Green Bay’s best running back on Sunday night, though that isn’t saying much given his competition. That said, Strong could carve out a role as the Packers’ pass-catching back once Josh Jacobs returns. Even if Green Bay eases Jacobs back into the fray, Marshawn Lloyd and Kaleb Johnson are unplayable right now. As for Knight, his fantasy relevance will likely only last as long as Jeremiyah Love is sidelined. I would not rush to add him unless you are in desperation mode.

Wide Receiver Takeaways

I’m curious whether an NFL team has ever had two wide receivers each catch 11 or more passes and have neither player finish with 100 yards before last week. The Pittsburgh Steelers pulled off that bizarre feat in their comeback victory in Tampa Bay. As a result, Germie Bernard and DK Metcalf each finished as top-five wide receivers in the Week 6 MOP rankings. I don’t think Pittsburgh wants Aaron Rodgers dropping back 54 times regularly compared to 21 designed running plays. But they are the only two wide receivers in town for the next few weeks outside of Ben Skowronek. I would continue to start Metcalf and Bernard for the foreseeable future, especially in PPR formats.

Demario Douglas has had two outstanding weeks in a row for the New England Patriots. He tied his career-high with seven grabs, finishing with 86 yards and a touchdown against the New York Jets. Even after his standout Week 5 performance, fantasy managers were hesitant to buy in. Douglas is still only rostered in 36 percent of Fantrax leagues. But I suspect that number will be significantly higher in a couple of days. New England placed Romeo Doubs on Injured Reserve, and A.J. Brown may have forgotten how to catch a football while he was injured. The Patriots have some favorable matchups over the next few weeks, including games against Chicago, Miami, and Detroit. Douglas could make a sizable impact in PPR leagues during this stretch.

Tight End Takeaways

Whenever a random player scores multiple touchdowns in a game, I toy with changing Minus One Play rankings to Minus Two Play rankings. Because it feels misleading to note that Foster Moreau finished as a top-10 fantasy tight end in the Week 6 MOP rankings. Moreau turned two targets into 13.7 Half-PPR points on two short touchdown catches in Houston’s victory. To his credit, the second catch was impressive. But even as the tight end position provides constant minefields, I can’t advocate starting a player who has earned a target on 7.5 percent of his offensive snaps. Let someone else chase last week’s points.

Chigoziem Okonkwo has finished as a TE1 in 12-team leagues in consecutive weeks. Unlike Moreau, there could be something here with the former Tennessee Titan. Okonkwo has earned at least six targets and finished with 60 yards in both outings. Washington is also likely to be without top wide receiver Terry McLaurin for some time after what appeared to be a serious leg injury. That could open even more opportunities for Okonkwo. I’m not ready to declare Okonkwo a must-start yet. However, he is still available in over half of Fantrax leagues, and that should not be the case. Washington is off this week, but I would recommend adding him if you can maneuver around their Week 7 bye.
