Atlantic Division Projected Starting Fives and Fantasy Basketball Values

Many NBA rosters are now all but complete meaning fantasy values are starting to take shape. The starting five of a number of teams could still change in the coming months meaning these fantasy basketball values are of course, not certain. I have put together a list of the depth charts of every team as we now move from the Southeast Division to the Atlantic division, highlighting who I believe could be in the starting five. Of the standard league relevant players, I have projected where you will likely have to target them in the early drafts. This is followed by, what I think might be their ceiling and finally, whether they could be considered fantasy values in relation to their ADP.

Atlantic Division Fantasy Basketball Values

Boston Celtics

The Celtics underwent major changes to their roster, losing both Kyrie Irving and Al Horford. Kemba Walker arrived in town as the beacon of hope and should be able to put up similar numbers, likely a target in the second round. Jason Tatum is likely to be taken in the third or fourth round which could eliminate a lot of his value. Jaylen Brown is yet to break out and I would need to see a lot more from him this season before talking him up. Marcus Smart quietly finished inside the top-90 last season and could have value if you manage to grab him after pick 100. Gordon Hayward was disappointing but could be in line for a nice bounce-back season, making him a sleeper in less informed leagues. Finally, Enes Kanter who if he can carve out a 30-minute role could have top-70 potential.

Brooklyn Nets

Kyrie Irving arrives in Brooklyn off the back of a very solid top-10 season. He is typically overlooked in the first round and so could have value if he is available in the second round. Caris LeVert heads into this season with a number of questions surrounding his ability. He began 2018-19 on fire and was certainly in the discussion as the most improved player. However, a devastating leg injury cost him the majority of the season, thus derailing his upward trajectory. He is worth grabbing in the mid to late rounds as a player with definite potential. Taurean Prince was a nice get for the Nets and could slot in as the starting power forward. He underachieved last season and is definitely worth a look in the later rounds and could be one of the better fantasy basketball values of the season. DeAndre Jordan was an interesting acquisition and both he and Jarrett Allen will likely cancel out each other’s upside.

New York Knicks

The point guard situation in New York is far from clear. Both Dennis Smith Jr. and Elfrid Payton have claims and could emerge as the primary ball-handler. RJ Barrett is somewhat of an unknown commodity and like many rookies, comes with an element of risk. He is likely to be taken in the middle rounds of many drafts which doesn’t give him a lot of room to move in terms of value. Julius Randle was the big signing for the Knicks, an indication of how poor their offseason has been. Randle is very good at what he does and typically shines in his areas of strength. Unfortunately, that doesn’t translate overly well in fantasy. Last season would have been seen as a positive campaign yet he finished as just the 79th ranked player. Mitchell Robinson ended 2018-19 with a bang and the hype train is very real. Because of this, managers are going to have to reach to grab him as early as the third round.

Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers have put together arguably the strongest starting five in the league, picking up both Al Horford and Josh Richardson. Ben Simmons has signed a long-term deal and along with Horford and Tobias Harris, should be taken around his ceiling in most drafts. Richardson on the other hand, is a player that could be overlooked. He ended his time with Miami as the 67th ranked player in what could only be described as a disappointing season. He has top-50 uspide despite the move and should be jumped on if he is available late. Joel Embiid is clearly a top-10 talent but continues to struggle with missed games. If he falls to the second round, he is worth a flier in almost every format.

Toronto Raptors

Losing Kawhi Leonard has opened up opportunities for a number of players. Fred VanVleet should be more heavily involved making him a nice sleeper pick. Norman Powell showed up in the playoffs and could open the season as the starting two-man. He should be around towards the end of a lot of drafts giving him nice potential. OG Anunoby saw his season disrupted, curtailing his development. He could slot into Leonard’s spot and much like Powell is worth a look late. Pascal Siakam was undoubtedly the breakout star of 2018-19 and looks set for a big follow-up year. Unfortunately, much like Mitchell Robinson, he has been hyped early. This means he will be going as high as the second round which doesn’t give him a lot of upside. Marc Gasol is a great fit for the Raptors, however, not from a fantasy perspective. That being said, he will have to do a bit more on both ends of the floor without Leonard. He provides solid numbers across the board and could slip to the middle rounds.
