At this point in the season, you are either locked into a top spot for the playoffs, battling for the last spot in the playoffs or occupying space in the doldrums of your league which likely means you wouldn’t be reading this article anymore. Anyway, I’m still doing the work for those of you who haven’t switched to DFS for the rest of the season. You will find obvious player opinions in this piece such as, Joe Mixon is a top 5 RB, but I will also give you useful, less-heralded takes like Hunter Renfrow is a top-15 WR in fantasy ROS. Week 13 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide
$1,000 is a common budget size for season-long leagues and that is the template for my FAAB bid percentages. The Week 13 Fantasy Football FAAB Guide attempts to cover all styles of fantasy scoring, but I write this article from a redraft and PPR point of view. All roster percentages for this week come from Fantrax and Yahoo fantasy football leagues.

Reference Points
- The Saints are finally ready to turn to Taysom Hill for their second straight Thursday night game at home. Hill had concussion issues while also dealing with a less publicized plantar fasciitis. Sean Payton has no choice though. Trevor Siemian is not a difference-maker despite Paytons’s ego thinking otherwise. For fantasy purposes at this point, buy now on Hill and buy big. His next four games are against DAL, NYJ, TB and MIA. That’s a promising stretch of fantasy points if you’re in need of bye week replacements or looking for a playoff spark.
- Taylor Heinicke is playing consistent football recently. Monday night against Seattle he was decent in a low-scoring affair Monday night. He has LV, DAL, PHI, and DAL over his next four. Those are tasty match-ups for the fantasy playoffs.
- If you think the Patriots are depending more and more on Mac Jones being more than Trent Dilfer 2.0 recently then you’re not paying attention. He had his second 300-yard game last Sunday over the Titans, but he’s been given the opportunity to be the difference-maker for New England basically since the Tompa Bay media event. He doesn’t run so his fantasy appeal is middling at best. He faces BUF twice over the next four weeks with IND mixed in as well. Those are challenging defenses. I would continue to pass on him for fantasy use.

Reference Points
- Injuries have created open opportunities for fantasy managers to grab a starting RB for the playoff run. The first clear option for a MASSIVE amount of FAAB is Alexander Mattison. Dalvin Cook went down with a torn labrum and separated shoulder which he also missed time for in 2019. Cook is likely out for most of the playoff stretch in your league so I have put by biggest bid range of the season by far on Mattison. With his next four games against DET, PIT, CHI, and LAR, Mattison has a chance to be a top-five RB ROS. The chaos is real this season!

- With another injury that surprised very few of us, Christian McCaffrey is donzo for the year. Chuba Hubbard is back on the scene as your go-to man at RB in Carolina. Hubbard had two games with 24 rushes this season. Unfortunately, the YPC ain’t so great at 3.5. It gets worst. His schedule after the Week 13 bye brings challenges against ATL, BUF, and TB. The Falcons’ run defense is better than you might think as they have only given up 4 rushes of 20 or more yards. BUF and TB speak for themselves. The bottom line is I know how much it will take to bag Hubbard in FAAB, but I think overpaying in this instance might not be worth it. Plus Ameer Abdullah is in the fold now.
- The extent of how painful the shoulder injury to D’Andre Swift is really comes down to pain tolerance. Can he handle it? My bozo Lions are horrendous and they know it. No need to play him at 0-9-1. Spend on Jamaal Williams (especially in PPR), but beware of a timeshare.
- Nick Sirianni says Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders are trending in the right direction. Whatever that means. I say it means Boston Scott is your man this week at the Jets. He has 4 rushing TDs this season and he had a season-high in carries in Philly’s latest loss to the Giants. The Jets can be had and Scott is worth a nice chunk of FAAB for this week. Beyond that it’s unclear, which is why I want you to limit your bid.
- The Titans are on a bye this week, but we must acknowledge their RB usage in the loss to New England this past Sunday. Dontrell Hilliard raised eyebrows with 131 yards on the ground on just 12 carries. His fellow backfield mate D’Onta Foreman also cracked 100 yards rushing against the Patriots with 109 on 19 rushes. So what do you do now? You bid on both equally and hope that the one you get becomes the main player. Hilliard has an advantage as he is known as the better passing RB, but Foreman has caught all 4 balls targeted at him. I will say Hilliard gets the edge in my book only due to the upcoming schedule favoring the pass-catching back in Hilliard. It’s still a toss-up though.
- For the fantasy managers rostering Michael Carter or if you’re looking to snipe the Carter manager in your league, Tevin Coleman is the man for now in the Jets backfield. He had 67 yards rushing on 16 carries at Houston. He will get the most carries, but not the most catches. PPR players should not expect much at all in the passing game from Coleman with Ty Johnson and Austin Walter definitely in the mix.

Reference Points
- Van Jefferson is still available in over half of Yahoo leagues, but this is the last time that happens this season. Especially with a saucy match-up this Sunday against the Jaguars. Odell Beckham Jr. has a hip pointer which may limit his ability to go Sunday. They can likely win without him. Regardless, as Sunday showed, the Rams have plenty of targets to share between Jefferson, Beckham Jr. and Cooper Kupp.
- He has had limited snaps this season, but Kendrick Bourne keeps scoring TDs. He had 2 this past Sunday in the win over the Titans, including this outstanding effort below. He might be the Patriots’ most electric offensive player. Mac Jones is only getting better and that means even more production from Bourne. Stop ignoring this dude!

- The Jaguars keep losing, but they always find a way to throw the ball to someone else besides Laviska Shenault Jr. every week. It was D.J. Chark, then it was Jamal Agnew and now it’s Laquon Treadwell. Shenault Jr. did have 9 targets against Atlanta though, so he is seeing the opportunity to produce. I think there are better-priced options for your FAAB bucks who can provide the same production at WR.
- The Raiders are the singular ideal team for DeSean Jackson. He was born to play this role and though the targets will be minimal, he is likely to snag one big play per week going forward. He won’t have volume, but he could provide production with the targets he receives.
- Dallas looks to be getting their studs back at WR in Week 13. Cedrick Wilson was fantastic in a spot start last Thursday against the Raiders, but when you include the return of their playmakers and Wilson’s ankle injury, that leaves Noah Brown as the only possible Dallas waiver target at WR who can provide any value this week..

Reference Points
- Cole Kmet had 8 grabs against the Lions on Thanksgiving. This type of safety valve reliance is what I have been hoping for with Kmet. Let’s hope this continues ROS even when Justin Fields takes command of this suspect offense once again. Jimmy Graham’s TD was a fluke.
- Seahawks TE Gerald Everett has seen his targets go up over the last three games. His next four games are SF, HOU, CHI and LAR. That’s a schedule you should feel comfortable with going into your fantasy playoffs. Pick up Everett for the stretch run at a reasonable price.
- Dan Arnold ripped up his MCL Sunday. His loss is James O’Shaughnessy’s gain. He hauled in a 2-point conversion Sunday on 5 targets. In Week 1 he showed promise with 6 grabs for 48 yards receiving on 8 targets. Now that he has the job he could be useful late in the season.
- Brevin Jordan nabbed a TD in Houston’s loss to the Jets. He doesn’t get consistent targets, but in deep leagues, he can be good for a TD catch.

- Patriots TE Jonnu Smith had his highest target share since Week 7. He played 7 fewer snaps than Hunter Henry in Week 12 and 1 more snap overall than Henry in Week 11. Smith is on the field enough that if you’re desperate he might be worth a look right now.
The Leftovers
- Week 12 still leaves us with more questions to ponder. After Jonathan Taylor and a healthy Derrick Henry, who should fill out the first round in 2022? Will we ever see a season with 2,000 yards or more from scrimmage from Christian McCaffrey again? Are we certain we would still take Ja’Marr Chase over Jaylen Waddle in a 2021 NFL Draft redo?
- The following players with uncertain roles are all worth mentioning, just in smaller doses. Dolphins coach Brian Flores is hinting that newly signed RB Phillip Lindsay will be more involved in their offense going forward. Rex Burkhead ran 18 routes in Houston’s loss to the Jets last Sunday. 49ers unknown Jauan Jennings scored a TD this past weekend and could see more action after Deebo Samuel hurt his groin. Former Ole Miss standout Laquon Treadwell had 4 catches on 8 targets last Sunday showing off his special talent that made him a first-round pick of the Vikings in 2016. The Jets elevated Austin Walter off the practice squad to face the Texans last weekend and he made the most of it with a rushing TD in the second quarter to go with 38 yards rushing on 9 carries. My bozo Lions are nightmare fuel, but somebody has to provide menial production for this sad-sack franchise, and that somebody is still Jared Goff.
