Upsets. Upsets everywhere. Week seven saw #2 Georgia, #6 West Virginia, #7 Washington, #8 Penn State, #15 Wisconsin, #16 Miami, #19 Colorado, and #21 Auburn all lose and most of them to lesser competition (Wisconsin, Colorado, and Washinton are exceptions). But some fantasy owners are worried about Tua Tagovailoa’s knee, Helvin Harmon’s matchup against Clemson, or Jace Sternberger’s bye week and with that being said I offer you some mid-week additions.
Also, be sure to check out the top matchups of the week and the All-Week 7 team and be sure to listen to CFF: On Campus with myself, the Gridiron Scholar John Laub, and InThisLeague’s Scott Bogman.
Mid-Week Additions for College Fantasy Football
Quarterbacks
Clayton Thorson, Northwestern
Ownership: 14%
After the unfortunate retirement of Jeremy Larkin, many expected the Wildcats to backslide and their offensive production falter quite a bit. Fortunately, Northwestern has a surprisingly capable quarterback in Clayton Thorson. Over the last two weeks, Thorson has thrown 111 passes and has accumulated 58 fantasy points in the process. After a 5% ownership increase after waivers, he is still available in over 85% of leagues and would make a fine addition for more than just P5-Only Leagues.
Zach Wilson, BYU
Ownership: 3%
BYU has relied on Tanner Mangum over this season and the last to win them games and, unless they needed a hail mary, he hasn’t quite got the job done on a level that most expected. Enter Zach Wilson. The True Freshman took over against Hawaii and threw three touchdown passes and added another on the ground in a dominant win over the Rainbow Warriors. The Cougars have an incredibly soft schedule going into the home stretch and Wilson could play a key role in a playoff push for your team against these jet-puffed defenses.
Jarrett Doege, Bowling Green
Ownership: 26%
I’m honestly surprised that I continually have to promote Jarret Doege. Bowling Green has only one win the whole season but Doege is on the verge of 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns with a lot of season left to play. This week, Doege goes up against the third worst passing defense in all of college football in the Ohio Bobcats and Doege is sure to have a field day. One of the best matchups in fantasy this week will be the offensive standoff between the Arm of Doege and the Legs of Nathan Rourke and you don’t want to miss out on a huge opportunity for points.
Others to Consider
Zac Thomas App State, 42%; Nate Stanley Iowa, 15%
Running Backs
Tyler King, Marshall
Ownership: 20%
I haven’t bought into Tyler King for most of the season with Keion Davis taking the bigger split of carries for most of the season. But King drew significant carries in consecutive weeks and went 160+ in both games. King is producing at a high level and is simply the future for the Thundering Herd and it only makes sense that he continue to see these amounts of carries going forward.
Marcus Outlow, Coastal Carolina
Ownership: 45%
Coastal Carolina has seen moderate success in the win/loss column as they look to make a bowl for the first time in their brief FBS tenure. One thing they have had success with it their run game. Kilton Anderson and Torrance Marable have looked good for most of the season but the big add for this week is Marcus Outlow. Outlow has only had under double-digit points once this season and has scored in five of their six games. This week the Chanticleers take on UMass who boasts the third-worst run defense in college football. Outlow is owned in under half of all leagues in college fantasy football and if you’re in a bind with byes and need another back or a flex player, Outlow is your guy.
Others to Consider
Devine Ozigbo Nebraska, 20%; CJ Verdell Oregon, 35%; Darrynton Evans App State, 27%
Wide Receivers
DaMarkus Lodge, Ole Miss
Ownership: 18%
Unfortunately, DK Metcalf is done for the season with a neck injury. But, it seems as though DaMarkus Lodge is going to take over that production after back-to-back monster games for the senior receiver. Over the last two games, Lodge has 19 receptions and 259 combined yards and a pair of scores. This week, the Rebels take on a struggling Auburn Tigers team and they will need Lodge to step up alongside AJ Brown to fill that void left by Metcalf.
Tyler Johnson, Minnesota
Ownership: 53%
So this one specifically goes down to the matchup this week. Minnesota goes up against a Nebraska team that ranks 108th in total defense going into the matchup. The best part of this is that Nebraska actually has a top-50 total offense in the FBS and that should keep the game interesting. Tyler Johnson is the main target through the air for Zack Annexstad and if he wants to keep Nebraska winless, he will hit Johnson early and often.

Dillon Mitchell Oregon, 35%; CJ Worton Florida International, 7%; Flynn Nagel Northwestern, 32%
