EPL Fantasy Draft rankings for midfielders is out.
Midfielders should be on the top of the draft list for all Fantrax managers. A midfield can, and mostly likely will, make or break your EPL Fantrax season. The 2024-2025 draft will see many of the top midfielders fall off the board in the first three or four rounds. Don’t worry there is always a gem or two or three available in later rounds to snag but if you wait too long your midfield will look extremely light, and you’ll be playing catchup all season.
EPL Fantasy Draft Midfield Rankings
Traits of quality EPL Fantasy Draft Midfielders
Successful Fantrax managers often prefer to be midfield-heavy, and the statistics last year can prove why. 13 of the top 20 scoring players last season were midfielders with the top 4 players overall (Bukaya Saka, Cole Palmer, Bruno Fernandes, Phil Foden) all being midfielders. 34 of our 75 top rankings overall were midfielders meaning there is value through the rounds in the Fantrax EPL Fantasy Draft.
Midfielders bring an array of statistics on both sides of the ball giving them extra opportunities to score points for Fantrax managers. Premium midfielders combine goals and assists but also the ever-impactful statistic of key passes. Midfielders are often set-piece takers, including free kicks and corners. Set pieces are where lots of key passes, assists, and other stats come from. In other words, target midfielders in the EPL Fantasy Draft who take set pieces.
If we look at the top overall players from last season, Saka, Palmer, Fernandes, and Foden all fit the criteria of goals, assists, key passes, and set pieces. I still throw Kevin De Bruyne in that group of premium midfielders. He missed half of last season, so there is a risk of injury again. When he played he put up an average of 16 points a game which was only bested by Palmer and Saka.
You should consider defensive midfielders like, Rodri, Declan Rice, and Bruno Guimarães who are not natural attackers. They put up a steady mix of attacking points and defensive points. Additionally, they are very unlikely to be rotated due to their importance to their teams. These players are matchup-resistant due to the variety of where they get their points from. They give fantastic production and managers are stress-free when lineups come out on the weekend. They should be on your EPL Fantasy Draft list.
The Season Ahead.
Looking at the draft, I expect midfielders to be 4 of the first 5 picks and 13-15 midfielders to be taken in the first two rounds. Those premium midfielders are going to go quickly so be proactive in targeting a strong midfield in early rounds before taking a mix of steady midfielders and some high-upside potential players to round out your Fantrax squad.
