Stop me if you have heard this before: Anthony Davis is injured. Regardless of his injury, Davis was already, once again, on the trade block. I’m not going to relitigate the Davis trade from last year, as that’s not why we are here. Instead, we are looking for the beneficiary of Davis’s and other injuries or situations.
It’s that time once again to prepare for the upcoming week. Now, let’s focus on the fantasy basketball waiver wire and the options to improve your team.
Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire
Naji Marshall, F, Dallas Mavericks
For the foreseeable future, playing time isn’t going to be an issue for Naji Marshall. At the least, Anthony Davis is going to be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks. That means we’ll continue to see a lot of Marshall. And the good news is that the forward is showing to be more than capable of answering the call.
Marshall is averaging 14.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, along with 2.1 assists and 1.1 steals. That production stands on its own, but Marshall has taken things to the next level as of late.
In his last six games, Marshall has averaged 31 minutes per game while truly stepping up. The forward averaged 19.2 points per game with 4.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game. We’re getting well-rounded production as Marshall has 1.7 steals per game while shooting 58.4% from the field.
Considering the direction in which the Dallas Mavericks are trending, there’s going to be more opportunity for Marshall where that came from.
Jaylon Tyson, F, Cleveland Cavaliers
When you see a player set a career high in points, it’s sure to catch your attention. Seeing that player tally 39 points only allows the intrigue to grow. Considering that Darius Garland and Sam Merrill are both injured, Jaylon Tyson is a player who truly should be on our radar.
Even before this, Tyson was a player who was on the fringe of being a fantasy viable option. Overall, he’s averaging 13.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per game while shooting 52.4% from the field and 75.9% from the free-throw line. That comes with two three-pointers per game, as Tyson should be rostered across the board.
Granted, Tyson’s helped by scoring 39 points, but he’s averaging 21.3 points per game in his last four games. That comes with four rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while averaging 28.5 minutes.
The opportunity should continue to be there for the surging second-year player.
Cam Spencer, G, Memphis Grizzlies
At this point, with the return of Ja Morant, the argument could be made that we are a little too late on Cam Spencer. Instead, I’m going to take the stance that Spencer shouldn’t be ignored.
Currently, Morant is on a minutes restriction, which means there continues to be plenty of opportunity for Spencer. If Spencer continues to perform the way he has been, then he’s going to make it quite difficult for Memphis to drastically cut his playing time.
In the six games that Morant was out, Spencer was elevated to the starting lineup. The second-year guard averaged 11 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 three-pointers per game, but that’s not what truly grabbed my attention. Spencer’s skills as a playmaker and distributor were on full display as he averaged nine assists per game. That brought his averages for the season up to 11.8 points and 5.5 assists.
Don’t move on from Spencer just because Morant has returned, as that could be short-lived.
