We are back at it for another week on the NBA waiver wire. Another exciting NBA Cup is just about in the books, and the season continues. That also means the grind and never-ending injuries are also ongoing. The good news is that with the waiver wire, there are tools to help. Now, it’s time to take a look at some options on the fantasy basketball waiver wire to improve your squads.
Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire
Anthony Black, G, Orlando Magic
At times, it feels like rubbernecking. Or you are one of those annoying lawyers that advertises on bus station buses. As we navigate the fantasy basketball waiver wire, we sometimes become ambulance chasers. If there’s an injury, we swarm looking for who the beneficiary will be from a fantasy perspective.
I will say that is the correct strategy, though. Ultimately, we are looking for the most available production we can find, and injuries often drive that. In this situation, with Franz Wagner expected to be out for the next month, Anthony Black is in a position to fill that void.
After 9.4 points per game last season, Black is stepping up and taking things to the next level. Through 25 games, he’s playing four more minutes per game and is averaging 13 points. In his last eight games entering play on Saturday, things have become more impressive for Black. Also, it serves as a look into what we can expect from Black now that he’s in the starting lineup.
Over the last eight games, Black is playing 31 minutes per game. He’s averaging 15.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game. His 40.2% field goal shooting does leave something to be desired, and the same can be said for his 70.1% shooting from the free throw line. However, we can’t leave those counting stats on the waiver wire.
Naji Marshall, F, Dallas Mavericks
Guess what, in what is seemingly a never-ending theme in the NBA this season, we have another injury to chase. This time, it’s Dereck Lively who’s out for the year for the Dallas Mavericks. The beneficiary is Naji Marshall, who now steps into a regular role.
Before we get into how well Marshall has been doing as of late, we do need to take a look at Dallas’ depth chart. Daniel Gafford will return at some point, but there’s also the strong likelihood that Anthony Davis will be traded. And did we mention that PJ Washington is also dealing with an ankle injury? Ultimately, Marshall’s role is secure, and we should proceed accordingly from a fantasy perspective.
In his last six games, Marshall is averaging 15.8 points per game in 32 minutes. That comes along with four rebounds, 3.5 assists, a steal, and a three-pointer per game. He’s also shooting 65.5% from the field and 80% from the free-throw line over that stretch. There’s no reason why we can’t expect that production to continue.
Grayson Allen, G, Phoenix Suns
It’s all about opportunity. Grayson Allen is a scorer, and he needs to be on the court to shoot the ball. And so far, this season, that’s been the case.
Allen is coming close to his career high in minutes with 32 per game. The good news is that not only is Allen is on the court more often, but he’s also being more productive when he’s playing. He’s averaging a career high of 16.5 points and 3.9 assists per game, which helps on just about all fantasy teams. What really drives things home, though, are the 3.4 three-pointers Allen is making per game.
