Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: We Have Turned a Corner

Now with the All-Star game behind us, it’s time to really look forward. The NBA is essentially divided into three distinct groups.

We have the teams jostling for postseason position and getting ready for the playoffs. They are playing things straight while also making sure everyone is rested and healthy. Everyone in this group thinks they have a chance to win the championship.

Then there are the teams doing everything possible to secure a postseason berth. Lastly, there is a distinct group of teams that are also looking to make the playoffs, just not in 2026.

The key is to utilize all of that to your advantage from a fantasy basketball perspective. Let’s take a look at some players who can improve your teams on the fantasy basketball waiver wire.

Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire

Jay Huff, C, Indiana Pacers

It seems like there are never enough centers available on the waiver wire. That’s especially the truth when they attempt 4.4 three-pointers per game. The problem, though, is that Huff is only making 1.4 of them per game. However, the fact that he’s consistently attempting three-pointers is certainly notable. Another advantage is that Huff is making 85.3% of his free throws, which is elite regardless of position, but especially from the center position.

While Huff has had success all season, things opened up for him following the trade deadline. With Isaiah Jackson dealt, there is now a legitimately clear path to playing time for Huff. However, we’d still be open to Huff playing more than the 24 minutes per game he’s averaged in his last five.

Over that stretch, Huff is averaging 14.4 points per game with 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. He’ll continue to see opportunities, and Huff shouldn’t be ignored from a waiver wire perspective.

Devin Carter, G, Sacramento Kings

The Sacramento Kings drafted Devin Carter 13th overall in last year’s draft. Not to state the obvious, but there is a level of commitment from the Kings to see what Carter can do. Now that the Kings aren’t even trying to hide the fact that this season doesn’t matter, things should be that much easier for Carter. To take things a step further, do we really think Russell Westbrook will be active for every game across the rest of the season?

Over a six-game stretch this month, Carter averaged 27 minutes and showed what he’s capable of. Carter scored 14 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists while also picking up 1.2 steals. This is the perfect example of a player who can make an impact towards the end of the season.

Grayson Allen, G, Phoenix Suns

While Grayson Allen didn’t play on Sunday due to an ankle injury, it doesn’t appear to be a long-term issue. That’s good news, as Dillon Brooks is now sidelined indefinitely with a broken hand. Devin Booker and Jordan Goodwin were also out. That means there’s plenty of opportunity for Allen.

I feel like there are generally a few times each season in which Allen becomes a waiver wire target. This season, that’s more telling as Allen is averaging a career high 17.3 points per game. He also has career highs with 3.9 assists, 1.4 steals, and 3.4 three-pointers per game. That could be a real difference maker.
