Our Gameweek 16 Chaps Choices article provides Fantrax managers with a Fantasy EPL Sleepers XI. Our starting eleven of Premier League differential picks will help you find a golden ticket to a big score this weekend! These hints and tips will give you a better chance of picking up an all-important victory, as one of our Fantasy EPL sleeper picks could easily make the difference in a Head-to-Head game!
We’ll be focusing on players that will bring us not only attacking returns or clean sheets, but also those players that score “ghost points” on the sophisticated and statistics based Togga scoring model!
*For this article, we use the ownership statistics from Fantrax. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is required to have ownership of 60% or below at the time of writing. This way there’s a good chance these players will be free agents in your Fantrax Draft League!
Fantasy EPL Gameweek 16 Sleepers XI
**60% ownership or below**
GK: Tim Krul
Team: Norwich
Opponent: Sheffield United (Home)
Ownership: 39%
Prospects: We’ve recently released some data regarding the importance of finding a goalkeeper with a good ratio between goals against and saves made. In Togga scoring leagues on Fantrax, this is essential. There’s not much point in owning the likes of Ederson or Allison, as they simply won’t make many saves. And clean sheets have all but dried up this season. The likes of Ryan, Henderson, Dubravka, and Krul rank highly for ‘Saves Made minus Goals Against’. These goalkeepers should have much higher ownership than they currently do. Try not to chase clean sheets when you’re streaming goalkeepers!
This weekend we’re therefore backing Krul of Norwich. The Dutch shot-stopper is unlikely to keep a clean sheet, but he will make a decent amount of saves against Sheffield United. We highly recommend bringing in Krul for Gameweek 16, or Dubravka (40% ownership) or Guaita (29% ownership) if he’s not available.
GW16 Points Scored: -2
DEF: Christian Fuchs
Team: Leicester City
Opponent: Aston Villa (Away)
Ownership: 15%
Prospects: A legend of Leicester’s championship-winning side, Christian Fuchs was given an unlikely start in Gameweek 15. With Chilwell struggling with an injury, Fuchs came into the side, and gained a whopping 17.5 points! The status of Chilwell is fairly unknown at this point, but with a quick turnaround before the Gameweek 16 trip to Aston Villa, Fuchs is well worth our attention. Our colleague @draftgenie highlighted the Austrian in his Waiver Wire Targets ahead of this weekend too!
GW16 Points Scored: 0
DEF: Federico Fernandez
Team: Newcastle United
Opponent: Southampton (Home)
Ownership: 7%
Prospects: We’re backing a Newcastle defender for Gameweek 16, as they host Southampton. Fernandez has been scoring pretty well in recent weeks and has firmly established himself in Bruce’s side. The former Swansea center back gains pretty good defensive statistics and is always a threat from set-pieces. Fernandez gained a huge score of 15.25 points against Sheffield United mid-week. The Magpies have also played really well the last couple of games, and we’re backing them to do well against Southampton this weekend. Fernandez is a worthy addition to our Gameweek 16 Sleepers XI!
Alternative Choice: Davinson Sanchez (39% ownership) is a decent alternative here, as he could gain a clean sheet in Gameweek 16, and will surely win a lot of aerials against the likes of Wood and Barnes.
GW16 Points Scored: 17
DEF: Dan Burn
Team: Brighton
Opponent: Wolves (Home)
Ownership: 55%
Prospects: Burn has been playing really well all season, and has been particularly impressive during Brighton’s tough period of fixtures. The giant defender gained 10.75 points against Leicester, 8.25 points against Liverpool, and a huge 16 points against Arsenal. Burn didn’t gain a clean sheet in any of these games!! Now is the time to bring him into your Fantrax Fantasy EPL side; Brighton’s fixtures are now improving, and he’s an important player under Potter.
Alternative Choice: Brighton team mate Webster (8% ownership) is a good alternative to Burn; the Englishman scored in the Gameweek 15 victory over Arsenal, and is now back to full fitness!
GW16 Points Scored: 0
DEF: Jeffrey Schlupp
Team: Crystal Palace
Opponent: Watford (Away)
Ownership: 35%
Prospects: We backed Schlupp in Gameweek 15, and he gained a goal and a clean sheet after coming off the bench in the first half. Now that Van Aanholt is injured, Schlupp will be fielded at left-back for Gameweek 16, and therefore he’s a great choice for our Sleepers XI. The Ghanaian international proved that he can still gain attacking returns from a defensive position, and he’s now gained back-to-back goals. Schlupp faces a trip to struggling Watford this weekend, and Palace are defending well, despite suffering lots of injuries!
Alternative Choice: If Schlupp is already taken, the Tomkins (11% ownership) is a worthy addition. He’ll win his fair share of aerials, and Palace could gain a clean sheet.
GW16 Points Scored: 1.5
MID: Moussa Sissoko
Team: Tottenham Hotspur
Opponent: Burnley (Home)
Ownership: 31%
Prospects: Sissoko has gained starts in each of Tottenham’s last two games, and has performed pretty well. It looks as though the Frenchman is a Mourinho guy, and looks set to start the next few games. Sissoko gained 21.5 points in Gameweek 14, and a respectable 6 points in Gameweek 15. This weekend Tottenham host a Burnley side who were turned over 4-1 against Manchester City mid-week. We would highly recommend bringing in Sissoko if you can; he should provide us with a decent source of points for our Gameweek 16 Sleepers XI.
Alternative Choice: Trezeguet (33% ownership) is worth a punt if he starts for Aston Villa, despite facing Leicester. The Egyptian has scored in three of his last four starts!
GW16 Points Scored: 12
MID: Aaron Mooy
Team: Brighton
Opponent: Wolves (Home)
Ownership: 8%
Prospects: Mooy has finally arrived in this year’s Fantasy EPL season! The Australian midfielder struggled to make an impact at the start of the season at his new club, and got sent off in the game directly following a great Fantrax score back in Gameweek 8! It looks as though Mooy has played himself back into Potter’s good books, and he’s starting racking up some decent Fantrax scores. Mooy gained an assist in the Gameweek 15 victory over Arsenal; he’s a great midfield prospect going forward. This weekend Brighton face Wolves at home, and Mooy’s ownership really deserves to be higher than 8%! We’d recommend bringing the Aussie into your squad if you can.
GW16 Points Scored: 0.5
MID: Jonjo Shelvey
Team: Newcastle United
Opponent: Southampton (Home)
Ownership: 37%
Prospects: Shelvey has worked his way back into Steve Bruce’s best eleven, and has been performing very well in recent weeks. Over the last five games, the Englishman has averaged 13.8 points and looks to be back to his Togga scoring best. Shelvey is a great scorer on this format, but his game time and attitude have sometimes been questioned. If Shelvey can remain in the side, he’s a great MID3/MID4 for the rest of the season! This weekend Newcastle faces Southampton, and they will be confident of gaining a result, which bodes pretty well for the prospects of Shelvey this weekend.
GW16 Points Scored: 20
MID: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg
Team: Southampton
Opponent: Newcastle (Away)
Ownership: 53%
Prospects: Southampton’s Danish captain has scored double-digit hauls in each of his last three games, which is pretty good considering he’s only gained one attacking return! We backed Hojbjerg in Gameweek 15, and he brought home a huge score of 19 points against Norwich. The central midfielder is becoming more and more influential for The Saints, as he’s produced six key passes in the last three games to go alongside his usual defensive statistics. This weekend Southampton face a trip to Newcastle, after gaining consecutive Premier League wins. We highly recommend signing Hojbjerg if you still can!
Alternative Choice: A good alternative for a steady scoring midfielder is Brighton’s Propper (39% ownership). The Dutch midfielder is a solid points scorer, and The Seagulls face Wolves this weekend.
GW16 Points Scored: 2.5
MID: Miguel Almiron
Team: Newcastle United
Opponent: Southampton (Home)
Ownership: 46%
Prospects: Almiron has actually been scoring fairly well recently, as he was showing potential before his assist and double-figure haul in Gameweek 14. The Paraguayan midfielder averaged 6.9 points per game between Gameweek 10 and Gameweek 13, which is a lot better than his early-season form. Now that Saint-Maximin has established himself in the Newcastle side, Almiron is proving a much better Fantrax option. This weekend Newcastle face Southampton at home, and Almiron should get plenty of opportunities against one of the worst defenses in the league. Gameweek 16 is the time to pick him up, and he’s a welcome addition to our Sleepers XI.
GW16 Points Scored: 8.5
FWD: Ismaila Sarr
Team: Watford
Opponent: Crystal Palace (Home)
Ownership: 12%
Prospects: Another player highlighted in our Waiver Wire Targets article is Sarr. The Watford forward has started the last two games, and has performed pretty well on Fantrax. Sarr posted 17.5 points in Gameweek 14, followed by 6.5 points away to Leicester in Gameweek 15. If you’re in need of a forward, taking a punt on Watford’s summer signing is highly recommended. This weekend they face Crystal Palace at home, and will be looking to pick up their first win since the departure of Flores.
Alternative Choice: Mousset (55% ownership) is worth a look if he’s still a free agent in your Draft League. He sat out Gameweek 15, so should be restored to the starting eleven this weekend!
GW16 Points Scored: 12.5
Team Points – Gameweek 16: 72.5
Team Average Score – Gameweek 16: 6.6 points per player
Average Ownership – Gameweek 16: 31% Fantrax ownership
