Every Fantrax manager knows that Waiver Wire and Trade acquisitions can make or break your Fantasy EPL season. This weekly article is here to help managers pick up the best Premier League players possible from the waiver wire, as well as suggest players to potentially target for a trade with a fellow manager!
Here we outline Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Targets that have 30% ownership or below on Fantrax. These players will also have a favorable run of fixtures upcoming, so they could perform very well over the upcoming period! Trade Targets will be players who look set to do well over the upcoming period, but their ownership statistics suggest they are probably taken in most draft leagues!
Essential reading before the Tuesday waiver requests process!
Gameweek 23 Waiver Wire Targets
Cenk Tosun
Position: Forward
Team: Crystal Palace
Ownership: 13%
Average Points per Match: 4.10
Next 5 Fixtures: mci (A), SOU (H), SHU (H), eve (A), NEW (H)
Prospects: Tosun completed his loan move to Crystal Palace and made an appearance off the bench in their last game. Tosun may get the start in Gameweek 23 and going forward and is worth a pickup. Palace are struggling to score and hopefully he will help that cause. Going forward Tosun can be considered a low-end FWD3. If you only have a roster with 2 forwards I would recommend using a waiver claim on Tosun. Palace has some decent fixtures after Manchester City, and he could get a few attacking returns. I wouldn’t use a top 3 waiver wire claim on Tosun ahead of Gameweek 23. There will probably be better transfers in the next few weeks!
Japhet Tanganga
Position: Defender
Team: Tottenham
Ownership: 2%
Average Points per Match: 6.0
Next 5 Fixtures: wat (A), NOR (H), MCI (H), avl (A), che (A)
Prospects: Tanganga made his EPL debut in the 1-0 loss to Liverpool and was one of Spurs’ best players that game. The young center back did himself no harm in the loss, and probably bought a run in the XI. He finished with 6 points which shows he will not be reliant on clean sheets in the future. Spurs have a mixed schedule coming up, but their defensive display against the powerhouse that is Liverpool makes Tanganga a worthy pickup. Ahead of a Gameweek 23 matchup with Watford I would use a low-end claim on the Spurs defender. He can be considered a DEF4 with DEF2 upside in favorable matchups anytime he is in the lineup.
Gabriel Martinelli
Position: Midfielder
Team: Arsenal
Ownership: 16%
Average Points per Match: 3.27
Next 5 Fixtures: SHU (H), che (A), bur (A), NEW (H), EVE (H)
Prospects: Martinelli could see a few successive starts with Aubameyang out for the next few matches through suspension. Martinelli has a ton of energy when he plays, and will have a point to prove to new boss Arteta. The Arsenal midfielder is worth a punt over the next few weeks with the potential to get a few attacking returns. With 1 goal on the season, the youngster will be hoping to add to that ahead of an important period for Arsenal. I would use a low-end waiver wire claim on Martinelli ahead of Gameweek 23 as there is the off chance Nelson gets the nod ahead of him.
Gameweek 23 Trade In Target
James Maddison
Position: Midfielder
Team: Leicester CIty
Average Points per Match: 13.45
Next 5 Fixtures: bur (A), WHU (H), CHE (H), wol (A), MCI (H)
Prospects: Maddison only has 1 double-digit outing in his last 5 games, and now is the time to try and trade him in. The playmaker should easily finish as a top 10 and potentially top 5 Fantrax player this year, and this could be the cheapest he will be. I would try to offer a MID2 + FWD3/DEF2 to get in Maddison. He is on most set pieces and has tremendous upside on a team that loves to attack. Try to offer a combination involving players such as Mount, David Silva, Sigurdsson, McNeil, Calvert-Lewin, Chilwell, and Azpilicueta.
