As we roll into my Week 14 wide receiver rankings, we are one week away from the fantasy playoffs. Luckily the Week 14 bye doesn’t hurt your wide receiver slot too bad. Nico Collins and Josh Downs are about the only startable wide receivers out this week. Nevertheless, this is the week you don’t want to lose. We do have some strong takeaways from last week that will help toward a win.
Tyreek Hill finally had a big game on Thanksgiving day. While Garrett Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr. are trending toward the bench. I’ll have it all covered in this week’s wide receiver rankings.
Wide Receiver Notes
- Let’s start with Calvin Ridley as my WR15 against Jacksonville. Ridley has the benefit of going against one of the worst defenses in the league. Currently, the Jaguars are giving up 31.8 fantasy points per game to wide receivers. Ridley is a wild card. The targets are there, but his catches aren’t. Last week he had seven targets but only reeled in two catches. Ridley is the definition of a boom or bust while he can easily drop 20 fantasy points he can also go for .09 fantasy points. But, this could be the week he goes off. He is playing his former team and, last week the Jaguars gave up 119 yards to Nico Collins. I would take the bet on Ridley this week.
- Next, I have Adam Thielen as my WR39. Thielen is a sneaky flex start this week. The Panthers have the Eagles this week and I expect the Panthers to be playing from behind. This means Bryce Young will be looking for Thielen. Thielen was not good at the beginning of the season, but neither was Young. As of late, Young is looking like a serviceable starting quarterback. In his last two games, he has 561 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Last week Thielen had eight receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. We know he is elite in the red zone. But, he is also one of the more reliable options for Young.
- Next, let’s talk about Ladd McConkey as my WR16 against the Chiefs. Going forward McConkey is going to be the only startable wide receiver for the Chargers. Quentin Johnston unfortunately can’t catch. That leaves Joshua Palmer and McConkey. McConkey has shown he has a higher ceiling and is a PPR machine. McConkey is a safe bet for at least seven catches and 90 yards. Since Week 10 McConkey leads the team in targets with 29. Johnston is behind him with 19 and Palmer with 15.
- Lastly, I have Marquez Valdes-Scantling as my WR37 against the Giants. With Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed on IR, Valdes-Scantling is the guy. He does not get a ton of targets, but Derek Carr loves to throw a few deep balls to him every game. He has four touchdowns in his last three games along with 232 yards. If the targets were higher, I would have Valdes-Scantling closer to my WR22, but he is a boom-or-bust player. However, he has scored in three straight games and is the lead wide receiver. And, he is playing the Giants. So, I do expect him to catch a few deep balls against the Giant’s secondary.
