Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Week 4 Defense Streamers

Quality defensemen aren’t usually that easy to find on the waiver wire, but near the start of the season, we are lucky with changing lines, struggling players, and unexpected teams playing well, boosting the players. With that being said, let’s get into three of the top defensemen to stream in Week 4 of the NHL season for fantasy hockey.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Target for Week 4

Dmitry Orlov, San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks can’t be stopped when it comes to scoring goals. They may not have won too many games thus far, but they are scoring and staying in games. The power play and the top-6 are big reasons for that, and Dmitry Orlov is benefiting greatly by spending most of his time on the top power-play unit and as the top d-man.

Orlov has failed to register a point in just three of his nine games and has eight assists on the season. Four of those points have come on the power play, and he has a steady mix of shots, hits, blocked shots, and penalty minutes to satisfy plenty of stats. The Sharks still have three games this week against the New Jersey Devils, Colorado Avalanche, and Detroit Red Wings.

Justin Faulk, St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have underachieved thus far, and Cam Fowler is one of the players really struggling offensively, especially compared to his stats after coming over to the Blues in the middle of last season. To pick up some of the slack has been Justin Faulk, and this isn’t something new he’s had to do on the Blues. Fantasy-wise, Faulk is always steady and worth at least a stream.

Faulk has a goal and three points in his last four games, and two of those points have come on the power play. While the top power-play unit struggles with Fowler on it, Faulk has been running the blue line on the second unit that has been more productive. At a certain point, he could even get a look on the top unit with better players and something might click. Like Orlov, Faulk shoots, hits, and blocks shots consistently. St. Louis has the Vancouver Canucks and Columbus Blue Jackets on tap for the remainder of the week.

Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Toronto Maple Leafs

Oliver Ekman-Larsson started the 2025-26 season with no points in his first three games and didn’t play over 20 minutes in a game. That changed quickly from the fourth game on as the defenseman has a goal and seven points in his last six games, is mixing in some power-play production, and also shooting, hitting, and blocking shots at a solid rate.

Ekman-Larsson comes in and gets time with the top players on the power play, and his offensive touch hasn’t gone away just yet. He may not be the elite defenseman he was with the Arizona Coyotes, but he can still produce at a sneaky level. The Toronto Maple Leafs play the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers to close out this week.
