Previously on Fantrax Does Football Manager…
Football may have stopped in the real world, but not here at Fantrax; we’re staying to giving you your football fix with a little bit of help from Football Manager 20. On Monday, our first series kicked off with a look at @TT_CAM’s league and the opening five games of the season (check it out here if you missed it). Yesterday, we took a look at Gameweeks 6-10 (here)…now, let’s get going with Gameweeks 11-15!
Gameweek 11
Three weeks ago, Konnekshun was the laughing stock of the league, languishing in 11th place…not anymore. A Bobby Firms double has given them another win, and now the club finds themselves all the way in 5th. The defense of Six Fois continues to be as stubborn as Londoners refusing to isolate and they march on with another three points, whilst Scamma becomes yet another victim of the Best of the Rest’s logic-defying run of form. Harry Kane, controversially being played as an attacking mid behind Abraham, failed to find the net (that’s just 4 goals in 10 games this season for the England man) as Burnsy drew 0-0 with Buy Nuts, and Aubameyang scored again to resign Doing A Fulham to the foot of the table. Finally, Only Horn – undefeated in five – took on Wingback – winless in four. So of course, Wingback won.
Gameweek 12
A huge weekend in the Fantrax Football Manager Championship saw leaders Six Fois head into their game without key man TAA who suffered a hip injury during training that will keep him out for at least two months. The team was unable to cope and they took a battering away at Resume Filler, losing 4-1. A sending off for Ederson will also mean they are without a goalkeeper for the next three games…how much of a dent will those two absences put in their title ambitions? Burnsy was denied victory when Doing A Fulham scored three in the final four minutes to move up to 10th. This consigned That Ain’t No Problem to the foot of the table, though just two points separated them from Scamma in 6th.
Gameweek 13
Another sending off, another big defeat, and Six Fois was suddenly knocked off their perch (Harry Kane scoring…playing as forward). Wingback took their place with an impressive 3-1 win over fellow high-flyers Resume Filler, whilst Best of the Rest suddenly found themselves at the bottom again thanks to a man-of-the-match display by Pablo Fornals for Doing A Fulham. The fate of the two pre-season title favorites couldn’t be more contrasting, with Only Horn falling just as fast as Konnekshun were climbing.
Gameweek 14
Ederson’s ban continued to hurt Six Fois as they fell to another defeat, and with Wingback also losing, Konnekshun’s draw meant we had a three-way tie atop the leaderboard. A fourth consecutive loss for Only Horn heaped pressure on the manager, whilst a late Phil Foden strike salvaged a point for That Ain’t No Problem (side note: Foden has started all 14 games for the club…take note Pep). Doing A Fulham showed their inconsistency again as they lost 1-0 to Buy Nuts, courtesy of a Rashford penalty – just his second goal of the season.
Gameweek 15
What a game at Fois Field as the sinking Six Fois battled but ultimately came up short against a rejuvenated Buy Nuts. Despite playing with 10 men for most of the match, Buy Nuts came out victorious thanks to goals from Rashford and Aguero. Six Fois will be hoping that Ederson’s return next week brings about a return to winning ways. Elsewhere, Mahrez inspired Wingback to an easy 3-0 win over Best of the Rest, whilst Only Horn finally won with a Diogo Jota goal after just 1 minute (side note: I’ve just checked the fastest goal record, and apparently KDB scored for Konnekshun after just 11 seconds earlier in the season!). A draw between Konnekshun and Burnsy did neither any favors in their quest for the top, though they both remain in the mix heading into the business end of the season.
As It Stands…
With 15 games gone, Wingback sits atop the mountain on 26 points, with Buy Nuts and Konnekshun their closest challengers. Everyone down to Campos in 7th will still fancy their chances of glory though, such is the closeness of the table. With just 7 games to go, a title challenge looks too much for Only Horn and those below – a scrap to avoid the wooden spoon looks to be a more realistic scenario heading forward. The goals have dried up a little around the league, but Resume Filler continues to look lethal in attack, led by joint-top scorer Aubameyang and supported by Salah and Calvert-Lewin. Defensively, Wingback has proven most solid so far, though with O’Connell, Doherty, and Digne all currently injured, and Hojbjerg having to play center-back, we’ll soon see how long this can last.
So that’s your lot for now. Come back tomorrow to see what happens in Gameweeks 16-20!
