Our 2024 goalkeeper rankings are ready, just in time for your upcoming EPL Fantasy Drafts
Goalkeepers should not be on the high end of anybody’s draft board. Finding consistent performers and the overall lower fantasy production make it a challenge to find one worth a valuable pick. However, snagging a set-and-forget goalkeeper can prove vital to making a title run in your EPL Fantrax league.
EPL Fantasy Draft Goalkeeper Rankings
Traits of Quality EPL Fantasy Draft Goalkeepers
In the Fantrax format, the highest-scoring goalkeepers are the ones that are going to make a ton of saves, don’t concede a Sheffield United amount of goals, and a have a strong chance at some clean sheets. Generally, your goalkeepers are low scoring and there was only one in the top 50 this past season. Last season managers saw Andre Onana ranked 32nd overall, with a league-leading 149 saves, combined with a decent clean sheet record (9 which was 5th most in the league). The next five ranked goalkeepers, Jose Sa, Jordan Pickford, Alphonse Areola, Bernd Leno, and Mark Flekken were all within 30 points of each other and none of these keepers were on a European qualifying team. Find those mid-table goalkeepers in the with the right mix of saves, goals conceded, and clean-sheet chances.
There is always a pull to pick Arsenal’s David Raya or Manchester City’s Ederson in the EPL Fantasy Draft because of their high chance of clean sheets and being on the top 2 teams (and defenses) in the league. However, Raya finished with 221.25 points last season and Ederson with 197. Raya had 16 clean sheets and Ederson 11 but neither of them had more than 60 saves which really lowers their value.
Avoid newly promoted goalkeepers in the EPL Fantasy Draft and to start the year due to the historic amount of goals conceded by newly promoted teams. These keepers usually get a large number of saves but the goals conceded usually outweigh the saves. But keep them in mind as the season goes on.
The season Ahead
You will often see a few teams drafting keepers early in the EPL Fantasy Draft but the value is too unpredictable and we suggest not looking to draft a goalkeeper until the later rounds (12th round or later). Looking at current ADP (average draft position) we are seeing goalkeepers starting to go off the board around round 9 (Onana – ADP of 92). If his numbers match last season, this could be decent value. However, we advocate the strategy of taking more punts on higher-upside outfield players over the unpredictability of the goalkeeper.
