NHL Injury December 9, 2025
Brayden Point, C – Tampa Bay Lightning
Brayden Point has officially been activated off injured reserve, clearing the path for his return to #GoBolts lineup tonight in Toronto. Point has been out since November 22 when he all but one shift in the 3rd period against Washington, missing the past seven #TBLightning games.

After missing five games, Point returned to action last night. Let’s hope that whatever has been ailing Point is behind him because he has not been himself all season. His 40-point pace is not what we’ve come to expect. I, for one, could use him returning to his 40-goal, 90-point self.
Andrei Vasilevsky, G – Tampa Bay Lightning
#GoBolts have placed G Andrei Vasilevskiy on injured reserve. He last played on Tuesday in New York, so he'll miss tonight's game in Toronto and tomorrow in Montreal at the minimum. #TBLightning

Vasilevsky was placed on injured reserve ahead of the Leafs’ game Monday night. He’s eligible to return as early as December 11th, so I’m not expecting him to be kept out of action long term. This move does free up a roster spot, which coincides with Brayden Point’s return.
Jonas Johansson will continue to start in his absence. In nine starts, Johansson has produced eight quality starts.
Ryan Leonard, RW – Washington Capitals
Capitals rookie Ryan Leonard exited Friday's game vs. Anaheim after taking a massive hit from Jacob Trouba behind the net 😬
Leonard ruled out with upper-body injury. He had 4 points in his previous game.#Caps #NHLDucks #NHLhttps://t.co/e3Dqg1BIf1

He was really coming into his own after recently being promoted to the Capitals’ first power play unit. Â However, it looks like Leonard will miss some time after taking a massive hit from the Anaheim Ducks defenceman, Jacob Trouba.
‘Some time’ hasn’t been translated into days or weeks at this point. With the vagueness teams like to speak about injuries and timelines, I expect the Capitals to list him as week-to-week initially.
Joseph Woll, G – Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs have placed Joseph Woll on injured reserve (retroactive to December 4) with a lower-body injury. pic.twitter.com/FyXOTsGSAY

The Leafs’ recent strong play, in large part, has been because of Woll’s play in net.
Now, he joins Anthony Stolarz on the Leafs’ injury reserve. The Leafs haven’t released a timetable on how long they expect Woll to be out. With both goalies out, Dennis Hildeby is the incumbent starter until one of them is ready to return.
Hildeby played a very strong game Saturday night against the Canadiens, giving up a single goal on 34 shots. Without any real timetable for return on either Stolarz or Woll, he’ll see the share of the starts.
Thatcher Demko, G – Vancouver Canucks
Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote believes Nils Höglander and Thatcher Demko are a possibility for next week against Buffalo. pic.twitter.com/g9PwjAgxK5
— Daily Faceoff Vancouver (@dfovancouver) December 4, 2025
There’s a possibility Demko could return as early as Thursday, December 11th, against the Buffalo Sabres. The Canucks currently sit 31st in points in the NHL. His return will do little to rectify that.
As Demko’s injury resume continues to grow, my patience and trust in him diminish. He’s by far the best goalie on the Canucks roster; unfortunately, the team in front of him is a bit of a mess.
Every return, I ask myself, for how long this time? Considering where the Canucks are in the standings and his injury track record, this might be a golden buy-low opportunity.
