⭐️ = Steer clear

⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Could be worth a punt
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Great prospect
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = The Premier League signing you’ve been waiting for!
Kortney Hause
Position: Centre Back
Team: Aston Villa
Signed From: Wolves
Prospects: Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent signing of Hause, in a £3 million deal. The young defender was on loan from Wolves last season, but only managed 11 appearances. Hause will be a back up centre back for Aston Villa this season. We don’t expect him to see much playing time. Dean Smith simply needed bodies, after relying on lots of loan players last season.
Verdict: Now that The Villains have signed Tyrone Mings on a permanent deal also, Hause will be a back up player this season. Nothing to get excited about here!
Rating: ⭐️
Matt Clarke
Position: Centre Back
Team: Brighton
Signed From: Portsmouth
Prospects: Former Portsmouth captain Matt Clarke has been signed up by Brighton, after performing well for the League One side. The big centre back is not proven at Premier League level, but Potter has obviously identified him as a good acquisition. Clarke will be behind established centre backs Duffy and Dunk at the moment; he’ll have to bide his time before being given a chance in the starting eleven. Unless Dunk leaves the club that is…
Verdict: Currently Clarke has pretty low prospects, as he’ll be used as a back up centre back. However, Dunk has been heavily linked with a move to Leicester. If this move does go through, then Clarke should earn a place in the starting eleven. Currently though, the big defender has low prospects.
Rating: ⭐️
Josip Drmic
Position: Striker
Team: Norwich
Signed From: Borussia Monchengladbach
Prospects: The last striker that Norwich picked up on a free transfer (Pukki) went on to score 29 Championship league goals in his debut season; all Norwich fans will be hoping Drmic will have the same impact. In reality, it is unlikely that the Swiss international will have quite the same impact as Pukki. Drmic played very little Bundesliga football in 2018/19, making only 5 appearances. But despite the limited opportunities, Drmic still returned 2 goals proving that he is a goal scorer given the opportunity. At international level, Drmic has 10 goals in 32 appearances for Switzerland. As Norwich City fan’s, the Fantasy Football Chaps are pretty close to this transfer, and confirmed the Drmic is likely to play a backup role to Pukki.
Verdict: Pretty low prospects given that Pukki is the nailed on starter, and furthermore, Pukki is an incredibly fit and resilient player that came out of a tough Championship season having only missed 3 matches. We’d avoid drafting Drmic.
Rating: ⭐️
Andre Gomes
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Everton
Signed From: Barcelona
Prospects: The central midfielder, Gomes, joins Everton from Barcelona on a permanent deal having spent the 2018/19 season on loan to the Toffee’s. To be perfectly honest with you chaps, don’t let the £22.5m price tag paid for Gomes fool you. He is a defensive midfielder, playing for a run of the mill team, and is likely to pick up only the odd goal or assist in the season.
Verdict: If last season is anything to go by, Gomes scored 1 goal and chipped in with only 1 assist in 27 appearances. Averaging 4.11 points per game last year is nothing to get excited about either. Gomes is not worth wasting any time on in preparation for you draft.
Rating: ⭐️
Leandro Trossard
Position: Left Wing
Team: Brighton
Signed From: Genk
Prospects: Trossard has arrived from Genk in a new Brighton record of £18 million. The Belgian winger scored 22 goals, and assisted 11 in all competitions last season. Trossard has also featured in the Belgian national squad, although he is yet to make an appearance for The Red Devils. Brighton were in desperate need of some more attacking flair and creativity; Trossard should be able to provide this. New manager Graham Potter should be happy with his new man. The left winger will hopefully adapt well to the Premier League.
Verdict: We highlighted Trossard as an Honourable Mention in the Projected Top Scoring Players section of our Brighton Team Preview. If he can carry over his form from the Belgian League, he could be a great signing for The Seagulls. If Trossard adapts quickly, he could be a great mid-range option for Fantrax Draft Managers.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sepp Van Der Berg
Position: Centre Back
Team: Liverpool
Signed From: PEC Zwolle
Prospects: The Dutch youngster has been snapped up by Liverpool in a fairly low key transfer. Van Der Berg was said to be very surprised by Liverpool’s interest, but the 17 year old has attracted attention from a host of top European clubs. The centre back is one for the future.
Verdict: Very low prospects at the moment, as Van Der Berg will be way down the pecking order at Liverpool. Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Dejan Lovren will stand in his way as he looks to earn a place in the side along fellow Dutchman Virgil Van Dijk. Don’t expect much from Van Der Berg this season. He could be a big player in years to come though!
Rating: ⭐️
Aaron Wan-Bissaka
Position: Right Back
Team: Manchester United
Signed From: Crystal Palace
Prospects: One of the biggest transfer stories of the summer has centered around Wan-Bissaka and whether Manchester United could get this one over the line. This is a key section of this Premier League New Signing analysis! The young Englishman is absolutely full of talent, and at only 21 still has so much more development ahead of him. The greatest contributing factor to United pursuing Wan-Bissaka is that he has Premier League experience and has proved himself in the league, contributing 3 assists in 35 matches last year. United have spent big in the past and benched the big money signing, but this is different; other than Young, United don’t have any challengers to Wan-Bissaka. Young cannot offer the high tempo football that Wan-Bissaka will bring to the side, and as such we think the prospects for the season are high.
Verdict: So if Wan-Bissaka is likely to be the United first choice right back, then why only 4 stars and not 5? Purely on the basis that United have been so poor over the last 4 seasons, it will not change immediately overnight. With clouds still surrounding Pogba, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there is still some contrivoursy still yet to come; which will undoubtedly have an impact on the side. Therefore we cannot give Wan-Bissaka 5 stars, because we fully expect United to be a mixed bag again when it comes to performances. This being said, drafting defenders is a key component for your overall draft strategy. The aim has to be to pick up top-6 club defenders and ideally wing-backs (for the added chance of attacking returns) for these clubs. Wan-Bissaka will meet this criteria so should be a target for any Fantrax Fantasy Manager.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
James Justin
Position: Right Back
Team: Leicester
Signed From: Luton Town
Prospects: Justin has joined the East Midlands outfit from League 1 champions Luton, where he helped Luton to boast the 2nd best defensive record in the league. It would be complete remiss of us to suggest that Justin will hit the ground running in the Premier League; he is going to need time to find his feet. But under Brendan Rodgers, who has an excellent track record of developing young players, Justin will be one to watch for the future. The main challenge to Justin is that of Ricardo Pereira, who had a stellar 2018/19 season; averaging 12.27 points per game.
Verdict: Pretty low prospects for this chap! Unless Pereira gets snapped up by one of the big boys, then Justin will be playing second fiddle to the Portuguese international who scored 2 goals and contributed 6 assists. You can probably scrap Justin from your draft plans.

Che Adams
Position: Striker
Team: Southampton
Signed From: Birmingham City
Prospects: Southampton struggled for goals and attacking threat last season, with Ings (7 goals), Ward-Prowse (7 goals) and Redmond (6 goals) the highest scorers. Towards the end of the season, Southampton tweaked their formation to accommodate two strikers; with Ings and Long partnering each other up front. There is a very good chance that Adams, who Southampton spent a reportedly substantial £15m to bring in, will be the new strike partner for Ings. Last season was an impressive one for Adams, who scored 22 goals in the Championship; the 6th highest goal scorer. Blessed with pace and strong in the contest, we think Adams has the potential to really take to life in the Premier League.
Verdict: With very little competition for places and considering Southampton have just splashed bit money on Adams, we are confident that Fantrax Fantasy Managers can be confident in the young strikers chances; particularly early on in the season. If a choice was required to be made between Ings and Adams during the draft; we’d side with Ings given he has the experience. However, Adams has the potential to have a greater impact on the season. Worth a punt!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Craig Dawson
Position: Centre Back
Team: Watford
Signed From: West Bromich Albion
Prospects: Watford have bolstered their defensive ranks with experienced Premier League defender Craig Dawson. The Englishman has been signed in a £5 million deal; one of the bargains of the transfer window so far!! Dawson spent last season in the Championship with West Bromich Albion, but after they failed to win promotion back to the Premier League, he’s been allowed to leave. Watford have gained a good defender with plenty of experience for very little outlay. We’re really liking this one.
Verdict: Dawson should go straight into the Watford side, and will probably be partnered by Craig Cathcart in central defence. Dawson performed pretty well during this last Premier League season in 17/18. The centre back averaged 8.64 points per game as West Brom were relegated. That’s a pretty good average points score playing in defence for a relegated side! Dawson’s arrival should improve Watford’s defensive stability. Pick up Dawson towards the end of the draft.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Danny Ings
Position: Striker
Team: Southampton
Signed From: Liverpool
Prospects: Following on from his season-long loan in 2018/19; Ings has made the move to Southampton on a permanent basis. The English striker was Southampton’s standout performer last season with 7 goals and 3 assists in 23 appearances. With Southampton crying out for goals last season, we fully expect Ings to play a key role in the side for the forthcoming 2019/20 season. The issues facing Ings will not necessarily be competition for a starting place, but instead whether Ings can get the level of service he will require to score goals; and whether he can stay fit!
Verdict: A season average of 8.96 points per game was not a bad return considering Ings was coming back from a couple of years on the sideline with injury. We’d highly advise Fantrax Fantasy Managers to look at Ings as the ideal 3rd or 4th choice striker to complete your squad in this year’s Draft.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mateo Kovacic
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Chelsea
Signed From: Real Madrid
Prospects: Kovacic has been signed by Chelsea on a permanent basis, following his season-long loan from Real Madrid last year. The Croatian midfielder was pretty average last season, so we’re surprised to see him sign on a permanent deal. Chelsea are under a transfer ban though, and they are allowed to sign Kovacic as the deal had already been agreed as part of the loan contract! This signing is especially disappointing for Fantrax Draft Managers, as we were hoping the young English talent at Chelsea may be given a chance this season. The likes of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek would be better options in our opinion. Or even Mason Mount, who impressed under Lampard at Derby last season.
Verdict: Kovacic averaged 4.25 points per game last season. That’s pretty much all you need to know! The new Chelsea man doesn’t perform well on Togga scoring, and we’re hoping that the home-grown central midfielders get a chance to impress this season. In any case, we’re not expecting much from Chelsea’s new £40 million signing!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Matt Targett
Position: Left Back
Team: Aston Villa
Signed From: Southampton
Prospects: This is potentially a great signing for Aston Villa, as Matt Targett looks set to take over from Neil Taylor at left-back. The newly-promoted side needs players in on permanent contracts, and Targett will provide depth down the left-hand side. The youngster can play left back, or left wing-back, and provides great deliveries from wide positions. Targett gained some great scores last season when he was given a chance in the side at Southampton. If he gets 90 minutes every week for Villa, he could be a real asset.
Verdict: Potentially very good! We’re not that keen on Aston Villa this season, but we did highlight Targett in their projected top three scorers. Check out our Aston Villa Team Preview for full details! Targett should go straight into the starting lineup, and he’s worth a punt as a mid-round draft pick. If he can produce form similar to last season, you won’t be disappointed!
