Premier League New Signings 19/20
We outline each Premier League new signing individually, providing our views on how they will perform this season and a star rating given based on their upcoming prospects!
We’ve ranked the prospects based on a star rating, from 1 to 5:
⭐️ = Steer clear
⭐️⭐️ = Wait and see
⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Could be worth a punt
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Great prospect
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = The Premier League signing you’ve been waiting for!
Patrick Cutrone
Position: Forward
Team: Wolves
Signed From: AC Milan
Verdict: Cutrone is obviously a very talented footballer, but we would wait and see on this one. Jota and Jimenez were very good last season, so the new signing will have to wait for his chance. Cutrone is likely to be limited to bench appearances during the first couple of months of the season. A Premier League new signing to keep an eye on though for sure.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Nicolas Pepe
Position: Right Wing
Team: Arsenal
Signed From: Lille
Verdict: The one we’ve been waiting for!! Our first 5 star rating for the Premier League New Signings!! Nicolas Pepe has joined Arsenal in a £72 million deal, and we’re pretty excited by this. Pepe is a genuine Top 15 player, and should perform well this season. The Ivory Coast winger bagged 22 goals and 11 assists last season for Lille. We’re not entirely sure how Aubameyang, Lacazette, and Pepe will fit into the same side, but we’re excited by his prospects nonetheless!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Arnaut Danjuma
Position: Right Wing
Team: Bournemouth
Signed From: Club Bruges
Verdict: Danjuma has joined Bournemouth for around £15 million, and is regarded as a pretty good signing. The Nigerian born winger has two caps for the Netherlands and bagged 5 goals in 21 league appearances last season. Danjuma is likely to take advantage of the injury to David Brooks, although Harry Wilson now looks set to join The Cherries as well. We would wait and see on this one. Danjuma could well be a great Premier League signing for Bournemouth, but he’s not guaranteed a place in the starting eleven at this stage.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Tom Heaton
Position: Goalkeeper
Team: Aston Villa
Signed From: Burnley
Verdict: Heaton has joined Villa for £8 million, in a very good piece of business for the Birmingham based club. Dean Smith has been splashing the cash this summer, but this one is worth every penny. Signing an England international goalkeeper with a ton of Premier League experience for under £10 million. Bravo. Only a two-star rating for Heaton though, as we’re not sure how Villa will fair this season. He’s likely to make lots of saves though, so a decent goalkeeper streaming option.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Marvelous Nakamba
Position: Central Midfielder
Team: Aston Villa
Signed From: Club Bruges
Verdict: We don’t know much about Marvelous Nakamba, other than the manager in our private draft league got given him during his auto-draft!! Nakamba arrives from Club Bruges, and much like Villa’s other new signings, we’ll have to wait and see if he actually plays! With so many question marks over Dean Smith’s starting eleven, you can afford to wait and see if Nakamba will feature heavily this season. And also wait and see how he fits into the Togga scoring system!
Rating: ⭐️
Jean-Philippe Gbamin
Position: Central Midfielder
Team: Everton
Signed From: Mainz
Verdict: Everton moved quickly to bring in Gbamin as a replacement for Idrissa Gueye. The 23-year-old Ivorian is a defensive midfielder, who will be looking to take over exactly where Gueye left off. Keep an eye on Gbamin during the first few games of the season. He could easily turn out to be a points scorer along the lines of Kante or Ndidi!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Allan Saint-Maximin
Position: Right Wing
Team: Newcastle
Signed From: Nice
Verdict: A transfer that has been rumoured for a while, Newcastle have finally sealed the deal of Saint-Maximin. The French right winger arrives from Nice, after enjoying two productive seasons. The 22-year-old youth international will provide Newcastle with a much-needed option down the right-hand side. Saint-Maximin only gained six goals and three assists last season, but he comes with a decent reputation. We think he’s worth a punt in your draft, or as a waiver wire pick up post-draft!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oliver McBurnie
Position: Forward
Team: Sheffield United
Signed From: Swansea
Verdict: 22 goals for McBurnie last season, and Sheffield United have seen enough to break their transfer record. The young striker impressed during his first full season of senior football, bagging a huge amount of goals in the Championship. It may be too much, too soon, for McBurnie though. Sheffield United are our pick for 20th position and relegation back to the Championship. The Scotsman will be guaranteed plenty of game time though, so he could be of interest to Fantrax managers. If you’re looking for a 4th or 5th forward for your squad, McBurnie could do a decent job.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Bailey Peacock-Farrell
Position: Goalkeeper
Team: Burnley
Signed From: Leeds
Verdict: Peacock-Farrell has been brought in from Leeds for a minimal fee, in order to provide back up to Nick Pope. After Heaton left the club, Burnley needed a capable understudy. It looks as though Joe Hart’s time at the club will be coming to an end. Peacock-Farrell won’t be of interest to Fantrax managers this season. Just a reserve goalkeeper.
Rating: ⭐️
Jetro Willems
Position: Left Back
Team: Newcastle
Signed From: Eintracht Frankfurt
Verdict: Willems is a Dutch international left back, who has joined from on-loan from Eintracht Frankfurt. We expect him to go straight into Bruce’s side, but considering its a Newcastle defender, we can’t get too excited. Yes, he will play, but will he score many points? We’re not convinced. Keep an eye out for Willems’ first few weekly scores though.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Adam Webster
Position: Centre Back
Team: Brighton
Signed From: Bristol City
Verdict: Just one season at Bristol City was enough to secure Webster a move to the Premier League. Brighton have snapped up the centre back for a fee of £20 million. Webster played 44 games for Bristol City last season, and was their outstanding performer. Graham Potter knows the Championship, and he’s glad to have secured the 24-year-old defender on a long term contract. Brighton look to be moving to a 3-4-3 formation, so we expect Webster to play alongside both Dunk and Duffy in a back three. Webster is one to keep an eye on over the first few weeks of the season!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Moise Kean
Position: Forward
Team: Everton
Signed From: Juventus
Verdict: Everton have signed promising young striker Moise Kean from Juventus. The 19-year-old already has three caps for the Italian national side, as well as scoring seven goals in 16 league appearances for Juventus. Everton have acquired a young striker with high prospects! We’re slightly cautious here that Kean will share game time with Calvert-Lewin to begin with. Only because of his young age and relative inexperience. Kean does look to have a great future though.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Adrian
Position: Goalkeeper
Team: Liverpool
Signed From: West Ham
Verdict: Adrian has been brought as back up t0 Allison, after Mignolet left Liverpool. A decent signing for Liverpool, as Adrian is an experienced goalkeeper. Nothing for us Fantrax Draft Managers to get excited about though. Allison is the established shot-stopper, and Adrian won’t challenge for a place in the side.
Rating: ⭐️
Gary Cahill
Position: Centre Back
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Chelsea
Verdict: The veteran centre back has joined Crystal Palace after leaving Chelsea at the end of last season. Cahill is a very experienced player, and will be a leader in the dressing room for Hodgson’s side. We don’t expect him to earn a place in the best eleven, but Cahill will earn a decent amount of playing time. Sakho and Tomkins are the established pair, but both have had injury troubles recently. Cahill isn’t the best Togga scoring player out there, but he could do well when called upon.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Harry Maguire
Position: Centre Back
Team: Manchester United
Signed From: Leicester
Verdict: Maguire has finally made the move from Leicester to Manchester United, in a world record transfer for a defender. £80 million!!! We all know Maguire is a very talented footballer, but he didn’t actually score that well on Togga scoring last season. However, we were expecting an upturn due to Leicester’s increased prospects under Rodgers. Now Maguire has moved to United, he’s prospects have increased every so slightly. We moved Maguire from 18th in our Defender Draft Rankings, up to 16th.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Neal Maupay
Position: Forward
Team: Brighton
Signed From: Brentford
Verdict: Maupay has joined Brighton for around £20 million, after impressing at Brentford last season. The French striker bagged 25 goals in 45 games for The Bees. New Brighton manager Graham Potter had obviously liked what he saw last season. Brighton were in desperate need for attacking reinforcements, as Glenn Murray was their only real option for a striker. Maupay will be guaranteed minutes, and looks to be ready for the high level of football!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Harry Wilson
Position: Right Wing
Team: Bournemouth (Loan)
Signed From: Liverpool
Verdict: Young winger Wilson has moved to Bournemouth on a season-long loan from Liverpool. Wilson was very impressive last season at Derby, as he scored 15 goals from midfield!! Bournemouth suffered a serious to David Brooks a week ago, so bringing in Wilson on loan is a great piece of business. We expect the Englishman to establish himself on the right wing over the next couple of months, and enjoy a productive Premier League season.
We signed Wilson in the 15th round of the FPL Draft Community League last week, so we’re delighted to see Bournemouth make him one of their Premier League New Signings.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ibrahim Amadou
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Norwich City (Loan)
Signed From: Sevilla
Verdict: Amadou is a Cameroonian defensive midfielder, signed on loan from Sevilla. The 26 year old made 32 league appearances for the Spanish side last season, but we’re expecting him to have to battle for a place in the Canaries’ midfield. Trybull and Leitner are the preferred central midfield pairing, and Vrancic and McLean played well at times last season too. Norwich manager Farke will be loyal to the side that won the Championship last season. Wait and see on the prospects of Amadou; he’s unlikely to get into the starting eleven at the moment.
Rating: ⭐️
Victor Camarasa
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Crystal Palace (Loan)
Signed From: Real Betis
Verdict: Excellent! Camarasa average 8.2 points per game last season playing for a very poor Cardiff side. We’re delighted to see him return to the Premier League, as Crystal Palace have made him their most recent new signing. The Spaniard is a talented central midfielder, who does very well on Togga scoring. Camarasa will be a good post-draft pick up for many Fantrax managers! He should be towards the top of your waiver requests!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Joao Cancelo
Position: Right Back
Team: Manchester City
Signed From: Juventus
Verdict: Manchester City have splashed the cash on Portuguese right back Cancelo, in a £60 million deal. Danilo has moved to Juventus as part of the deal. Cancelo is a talented player, who has played in Italy for the past two seasons. The 25-year-old moves to England with a growing reputation. Cancelo will be looking to oust Walker from the right back slot, and we would expect him to do so eventually. Like most of Pep’s signings, his first season is likely to be a low key affair as he settles into life at City. Still worth bringing in though, as long as you can deal with the rotation headache!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
James McCarthy
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Everton
Verdict: Experienced midfielder McCarthy has joined Crystal Palace for a minimal fee. McCarthy was once very well regarded, but has suffered serious injuries over the last couple of years. A fresh start for the central midfielder is a good thing. It remains to be seen how much game time he’ll receive at Crystal Palace though. One to avoid for now. Not a Premier League New Signing to be noting!
Rating: ⭐️
Djibril Sidibe
Position: Right Back
Team: Everton (Loan)
Signed From: Monaco
Verdict: Everton have brought in French right back Sidibe on-loan from Monaco. Sidibe has 18 caps for France, and was integral to Monaco’s French league title in 2017. The right back has stuttered a little since then though, so he’ll be looking to get his career back on track. What does this mean for Coleman? That remains to be seen. If you’ve drafted Coleman, wait a few weeks to see how things pan out. If you’re looking to sign Sidibe, wait a few weeks to see how things pan out.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Danny Welbeck
Position: Forward
Team: Watford
Signed From: Arsenal
Verdict: Welbeck is back!! Finally he’s moved on from Top Six clubs. Hopefully, he can find some form and fitness at a solid Premier League side. He could do a good job for Watford if he can get his fitness back. A good signing for The Hornets, as its pretty much risk-free considering it was a free transfer. Hopefully, Welbeck can get back to his best! Personally, we would wait and see how he gets on before signing him up, but if you’re a big fan of the English striker then we wouldn’t begrudge you for snapping him up now!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Albian Ajeti
Position: Forward
Team: West Ham
Signed From: Basel
Verdict: West Ham have concluded their new signings with the arrival of Albian Ajeti to the Premier League. The young striker will provide back up to Haller and Chicharito. We don’t expect Ajeti to be challenging for a starting place at the moment, so one to watch and see how he settles in!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Emil Krafth
Position: Right Back
Team: Newcastle
Signed From: Amiens
Verdict: Newcastle have signed Swedish right back Krafth from French side Ameins in a deal for around £5 million. With Yedlin and Manquillo also on their books, we’re not sure who will occupy the right back berth to start the season. Wait and see on this one, but we wouldn’t recommend signing any Newcastle defender not named Schar anyway!
Rating: ⭐️
Ryan Sessegnon
Position: Left Midfield / Left Back
Team: Tottenham
Signed From: Fulham
Verdict: Tottenham have finally got their hands on Sessegnon, after the much rumoured transfer has finally gone through. Spurs have bought Sessegnon to take over from Rose at left back, as he looks set to leave. With the more experienced Davies also on their books, we would expect game time to be shared at left back this season. Davies nurturing the less experienced Sessegnon for a season or two before the youngster makes the left back spot his own? Sounds good to us. Unfortunately, Sessegnon has a default position of a midfielder on Fantrax, so is prospects are lowered due to this.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Aaron Mooy
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Brighton (Loan)
Signed From: Huddersfield
Verdict: Great business from Brighton, and great new for Fantrax managers. This is a Premier League New Signing that we’re really liking. Mooy is a talented player and always did well in a poor Huddersfield side. His Fantrax scores the past couple of seasons have been very good considering. Mooy will slot into a central midfield slot, most likely partnering Propper. The Australian international will take on a lot of set-pieces, and will be a good mid-range midfielder for draft managers!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ismaila Sarr
Position: Right Wing
Team: Watford
Signed From: Rennes
Verdict: Watford finally got their man, as Sarr arrived for a club-record fee on transfer deadline day. The 21-year-old winger bagged eight goals in 35 appearances last season for Rennes, which was enough for Watford to come calling. Sarr is likely to take over from Hughes on the right-hand side of midfield. The Senegalese international will bring pace and power to The Hornets play, and we’re pretty excited to see him in action!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Andy Carroll
Position: Striker
Team: Newcastle
Signed From: West Ham
Verdict: Steve Bruce produced the deadline day laughs, as he made Andy Carroll his latest signing. It’s a short term contract, with payments depending on appearances, but still, come on Steve!! Andy Carroll has completely fallen from grace the last couple of years, as he only managed a handful of games for West Ham. On his day he’s a good player, but his injury record is just insane. We’ve tipped Newcastle for relegation this season, and this transfer solidifies our tip. Oh dear.
Rating: ⭐️
Kieran Tierney
Position: Left Back
Team: Arsenal
Signed From: Celtic
Verdict: Arsenal finally signed Tierney, after weeks of back and forth between themselves and Celtic. Tierney is an exciting young left back, and this is a good signing for The Gunners. This Premier League new signing will offer Fantrax managers with a genuine attacking full back to fight it out over on the waiver wire claims! Tierney should do well this season. Ignore the fact that Arsenal can’t defend, and take a punt on the Scotsman!
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Giovanni Lo Celso
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Tottenham (Loan)
Signed From: Real Betis
Verdict: The biggest deal to go through on Transfer Deadline Day was Lo Celso’s move to Tottenham. The talented Argentinean midfielder has been linked with Tottenham all summer, and he finally made a loan move to London. We fully expect Tottenham to make the move permanent next summer. Lo Celso shined at Real Betis last season, after joining from Paris St Germain. We’re expecting the attacking midfielder to establish himself in the side over the coming months, and provide Fantrax managers with a very good midfield prospect.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Danny Drinkwater
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Burnley (Loan)
Signed From: Chelsea
Verdict: Drinkwater has finally left Chelsea… but only for a few months! The Englishman has been completely wasted at Chelsea the past couple of years, after doing well at Leicester. Drinkwater was at Chelsea all of last season and only made one first-team appearance. Awful. Wait and see how he gets on at Burnley. It’s an ok addition for them, but he’s lacking in Premier League game time so much, we’re not sure how he will get on.
Rating: ⭐️
Dennis Praet
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Leicester
Signed From: Sampdoria
Verdict: Another good signing for Leicester, but this leaves us with even more question marks over the starting eleven! Rodgers has done great business during the summer transfer window, with Perez and Tielemans also joining the club. Praet played very well for Sampdoria last season, and he was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal at the start of the season. Wait and see with this one. You can afford to wait until Rogers best eleven is made clear, and also how Praet will perform in Togga scoring.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Muhamed Besic
Position: Central Midfield
Team: Sheffield United (Loan)
Signed From: Everton
Verdict: This is a decent signing for Sheffield United, as they did need more bodies, and Besic has a good level of experience. Besic should be able to work his way into the starting eleven, but we’re quite low on Sheffield United on a whole. We’re expecting them to finish bottom of the league, so we wouldn’t jump on board the Besic bus at the moment. See how he gets on and potentially use him as a streaming option further down the line.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
David Luiz
Position: Centre Back
Team: Arsenal
Signed From: Chelsea
Verdict: This one took most by surprise, but apparently Luiz wasn’t guaranteed to play this season, so he wanted to move on. Fair enough. Arsenal have picked up an experienced, but somewhat erratic defender. Luiz is a good signing for them, after Koscielny left the club, but they really needed a solid defender to shore up the defence a little!! This move actually dents Luiz’s Fantrax prospects this season, as Arsenal’s dodgy defending will limit his points a little more.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Alex Iwobi
Position: Left Wing
Team: Everton
Signed From: Arsenal
Verdict: Love this one. Iwobi has been a good Togga scorer in recent years, but he just couldn’t establish himself in the Arsenal side. The Nigerian has joined Everton for £35 million, and should go straight into the starting eleven. Those managers that drafted Iwobi when he was an Arsenal player, bravo. Those managers that have Iwobi available for waivers, put a request in now!! Iwobi should do well in an exciting Everton side. High hopes for this one.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
