Super Bowl LIX Rankings: NFL Playoff Fantasy Football

Super Bowl LIX is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. The Chiefs will look to be the first team to “three-peat” in NFL history. Meanwhile, the Eagles will look to win their second-ever title after winning their first just seven years ago. For fantasy football purposes, every position is extremely top-heavy in the Super Bowl LIX rankings. Both teams boast plenty of talent, especially at the quarterback position. I don’t foresee many changes between now and kickoff. Lock in those lineups and enjoy the last NFL game of the 2024-25 season!

What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax this season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune in the 2024 season.

QUARTERBACK

RANKPLAYERTEAMOPPONENT
1Jalen HurtsPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
2Patrick MahomesKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles

Just like any other fantasy matchup, rushing quarterbacks have an edge. Especially if your league scores rushing touchdowns as 6.0 points and passing touchdowns as 4.0 points. While Patrick Mahomes did rush 11 times for 43 yards and two touchdowns in the AFC Conference Championship, he rushed just 58 times for 307 yards and two touchdowns during the entire regular season.

Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts rushed 150 times for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns in 15 regular season games this season, one of which he exited early. We know he has a higher probability of adding points with his legs. This gives Hurts a higher ceiling.

The Chiefs’ defense did hold Josh Allen to just 39 rush yards on 11 carries in the AFC Conference Championship. Considering that, and the requirement to keep the foot on the gas against the Chiefs, Hurts may push for 30 or more pass attempts in Super Bowl LIX. In just five games in which he attempted 30 or more pass attempts this season, Hurts averaged 244 yards per game. He also tossed six touchdown passes, adding another three on the ground.

RUNNING BACK

RANKPLAYERTEAMOPPONENT
1Saquon BarkleyPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
2Kareem HuntKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
3Isiah PachecoKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
4Kenneth GainwellPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
5Samaje PerineKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
6Will ShipleyPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs

Saquon Barkley is 30 rushing yards away from setting an all-time record (2,477+) in total rushing yards in a single season, including the playoffs. No other running back in the Super Bowl LIX rankings comes close to his value. The Chiefs defense is the toughest opponent Barkley will face yet during the NFL playoffs. They allowed just 3.78 yards per carry and the third-fewest rushing yards to running backs during the regular season. James Cook, however, rushed 13 times for 85 yards and two scores in the AFC title game. Behind arguably the best offensive line in football, Saquon Barkley is genuinely matchup-proof.

It’s hard to believe in the year 2025 that Kareem Hunt is the lead back for the Kansas City Chiefs. In his last four games played, including the playoffs, Hunt has led the backfield and scored a touchdown in each game. That includes a team-high 17 carries in the AFC Championship. Meanwhile, Isiah Pacheco, over the same span, has failed to reach double-digit carries in any of his last four.

Neither of the top two Chiefs running backs in the Super Bowl LIX rankings has topped 100 rushing yards since Week 9. Furthermore, the AFC Championship is the first time either back (Hunt) topped 60 rushing yards since Week 12. If you need to decide between the two of them, it’s Hunt.

WIDE RECEIVER

RANKPLAYERTEAMOPPONENT
1A.J. BrownPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
2Xavier WorthyKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
3DeVonta SmithPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
4Hollywood BrownKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
5Juju Smith-SchusterKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
6DeAndre HopkinsKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
7Jahan DotsonPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
8Justin WatsonKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles

A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are the only two wide receivers worth legitimately considering from the Eagles for your Super Bowl LIX lineups. Jahan Dotson is the only other wide receiver to draw a target in three playoff games. He logged two against the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round.

A.J. Brown could draw shadow coverage from Chiefs cornerback, Trent McDuffie, for the majority of Super Bowl LIX. He did haul in a 45-yard touchdown against McDuffie in their last Super Bowl matchup. While Brown is the typical first read and top target, a shadow from McDuffie could open things up for DeVonta Smith in Super Bowl LIX. As mentioned before, a tough Chiefs run defense, and a potential back-and-forth game could generate more pass attempts from Jalen Hurts.

The Chiefs wide receivers all get a piece of the pie each week. Xavier Worthy’s piece is typically bigger than the others. Worthy has run the most routes and drawn the most total targets (13) in two playoff games thus far. Since the beginning of December, Worthy has logged two or more rush attempts in four of seven games played. That includes two attempts in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs clearly want to continue getting the ball into the speedy rookie’s hands.

After Xavier Worthy, it’s difficult to identify the next best receiver on the Chiefs to play. Travis Kelce is such a focal point any given week and limits the ceiling of everyone else. Hollywood Brown is the most likely to produce a big play. He has over 60 air yards in each of the Chiefs’ two playoff games, which is easily the most of any player.

Juju Smith-Schuster surprisingly logged 10 more routes and one more target than DeAndre Hopkins in the AFC Conference Championship. Hopkins played just 12 snaps in the Super Bowl clinching matchup with the Buffalo Bills. He’s played nearly half the amount of snaps of Smith-Schuster through two playoff games.

TIGHT END

RANKPLAYERTEAMOPPONENT
1Travis KelceKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
2Dallas GoedertPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs
3Noah GrayKansas City ChiefsPhiladelphia Eagles
4Grant CalcaterraPhiladelphia EaglesKansas City Chiefs

Travis Kelce is preparing to play in his fifth Super Bowl. In four prior appearances, Kelce has drawn 9.3 targets, logged 7.8 receptions, and 87.5 yards per game. Kelce remains a top target on the Kansas City Chiefs. In two playoff games this season, he accounts for 24.4% of the Chiefs’ team target share. The best tight end in the NFL playoffs sits atop the Super Bowl LIX rankings.

Dallas Goedert is tied with A.J. Brown as the leader in targets (18) among Eagles pass catchers after three playoff games. Goedert has caught 15 of his 18 targets for 188 total yards and a touchdown. He has no less than four receptions or 47 yards in any of his last three games. The Chiefs were tied for second in total receptions allowed to tight ends this season.

If you play in a “one-and-done” NFL playoff fantasy football league, and both Kelce and Goedert are available to you, then start Kelce, but consider flexing Goedert. If neither are available to you, Noah Gray is your next best option in the Super Bowl LIX rankings. He has run 22 routes in two playoff games while Grant Calcaterra has run 15 in three. Calcaterra needs a mid-game injury to relevant. Gray could have an impact even with Kelce getting a majority of the looks at the position.
