Week 13 Weekend Waiver Wire

Welcome back to the Weekend Waiver Wire, and I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving, full of food, football, and at least one lineup decision you didn’t regret. Week 13 is here, and as we shake off the leftovers and slide into the home stretch of the fantasy season, it’s a good time to remember what we’re thankful for.

We’re thankful for surprise breakouts that kept our seasons alive, veteran quarterbacks who turned back the clock when we needed it most, backup running backs who became league-winners, and yes, even the late-season breakout wide receiver that pushes your team over the top. Now, with the playoffs looming, the decisions get tighter and the margins thinner.

Let’s look at the cornucopia of players on the waiver wire who can give your roster one more reason to be thankful in Week 13 and maybe carry you all the way to a championship run.

Week 13 Weekend Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Max Brosmer, Minnesota Vikings

Purely a speculative add in deep leagues. Why, you ask? Well, the schedule is the best you could possibly dream of for a quarterback the rest of the way. If Brosmer shows any sign of life in Week 13 against the Seahawks, he would be a good player from Week 14 through Week 17. The Vikings play the Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, and Lions, all of whom are in the bottom 10 in pass defense. Just imagine if JJ McCarthy were good.

Other quarterbacks to consider:

Cam Ward, Tennessee Titans – another crazy sounding addition

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins – The Fantasy playoff schedule is one of the easiest

Quarterback Notes: I named five guys who I am not adding unless I am very desperate at quarterback.  It is pretty scary that Brosmer could end up the best of the bunch of he has any juice at all. If he doesn’t and JJ McCarthy gets healthy, we may be very surprised at what JJ does down that stretch of games.

Running Backs

Dylan Sampson, Cleveland Browns

He had nine total touches in Week 12. Showed how explosive he can be with a 66-yard reception for a touchdown. He actually ran about 1 yard as he caught the ball roughly 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. In PPR formats, he could become a value with Shedeur Sanders at quarterback for the Browns.

Other Running Backs to Consider:

Bam Knight, Arizona Cardinals – 10 carries, 12 yards, TD, 5 targets, 4 receptions, 20 yards receiving

Chris Rodriguez, Washington Commanders – BYE Week, but best RB on the Commanders

Brian Robinson Jr., San Francisco 49ers – 7 carries, 40 yards, 2 targets, 1 reception, 4 yards receiving

Running Back Notes: Sampson may bring surprise stand-alone value because of his ability to break one with lots of yards after the catch. Bam Knight probably deserves a bigger write-up, as he should be rostered as long as Trey Benson is on IR. Bam is producing double-digit fantasy points, even though he is not a sexy play. Rodrigue is another solid, not sexy, addition. Robinson is the best handcuff in fantasy and will quickly become the hottest commodity on the waiver wire if anything were to happen to Christian McCaffrey. Robinson feels like what people say about guns: “better to roster him and not need him than not to roster him and end up needing him”.

Wide Receivers

Chimere Dike, Tennessee Titans

He is a flex play in Week 13 at the very least. In Week 12 he saw seven targets. Dike turned those into five receptions, 44 yards, and a touchdown. He also had a return for a touchdown. If you play in a league where individual players get points for return yardage he should be in your lineup weekly.

Parker Washington, Jacksonville Jaguars

He has seven or more targets in three out of the last four games. The Titans are up in Week 13, and they give up the ninth most fantasy points to wide receivers. I am actually surprised he is not rostered in more leagues.

John Metchie, New York Jets

In the last two games, Metchie has led the Jets in wide receiver snaps, averaging 85% of the offensive plays. He saw a 25% target share in Week 12, leading the Jets in targets with seven. He has scored a touchdown in each of the last two games. I have added him. I felt like I needed a wide receiver.

Other Wide Receivers to Consider:

Darnell Mooney, Atlanta Falcons – 3 targets, 3 receptions, 74 yards, TD

Greg Dortch, Arizona Cardinals – 9 targets, 6 receptions, 53 yards, TD

Wide Receiver Notes: Mooney and Dortch may both have deserved bigger write-ups in this article. For Mooney, it was the high efficiency on low target volume, plus he only holds value until Drake London is back. Dortch could lose value this week with Marvin Harrison back on the field; it is a wait-and-see. Metchie could end up the best addition of the bunch if he becomes the clear WR1 for the Jets. I like Dike a lot in return leagues, and Washington could falter some with Brian Thomas Jr suiting up this week.

Tight Ends

Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars

Strangely enough, I thought Brenton would be a priority add for people after the game he played in Week 12. He caught all five of his targets and had 93 yards. You might think there are a lot of people who want to add him. He is still available in roughly 70% of leagues. I would give him an add if you are needy at TE. His ceiling is higher than most.

Gunnar Helm, Tennessee Titans

I know most of you are saying, “Who the hell is Gunnar Helm? He sounds more like a character in the show Vikings.” Well, in Week 12, Helm saw seven targets, tied for the most on the team. He turned that into six receptions and 51 yards. This alone should put him on your radar. Take the Helm!

Other tight ends to consider:

Colby Parkinson, Los Angeles Rams – 4 targets, 4 receptions, 41 yards, TD

Taysom Hill, New Orleans Saints – 10 carries, 17 yards, 2 pass attempts

Tight Notes: Strange and Helm are both guys you can add with some confidence. Helm is someone I would play this week. Parkinson is somewhat touchdown dependent but has been delivering there with touchdowns in three straight games. Hill is an intriguing addition with Alvin Kamara out, not because he has been good, but because he could fill your stat sheet with the weirdest stats any tight end has ever seen.
