Week 17 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers

Welcome to Week 17! For all of those who made it to your championship, congratulations! For those of you who didn’t and are just here because you aren’t ready for the season to end, condolences. Either way, it’s the most important week of the season, so let’s get into our Week 17 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers!

Week 16 Recap

We had a mixed bag for the semi-finals. Jordan Love is going to be excluded as he got knocked out with a concussion early on.

Justin Herbert was a great call, scoring his first 30 fantasy point game of the season.

Jacoby Brissett and C.J. Stroud were both massive duds. Brissett had his first game outside of the Top-12 as a starter and barely earned 10 fantasy points. Stroud was only marginally better. If you started either and still won, congrats on the super team.

Full Season Tally: 40-25

Now let’s bring home those championships with our Week 17 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers!

Week 17 Quarterback Sleepers

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers QB vs. Houston Texans

Calling for Herbert to have a bounce-back was easy last week, after all, he was playing the Cowboys. Even with that monster performance, it would be hard to trust Herbert against the mighty Texans this week. I say go for it.

We’ve seen enough of Herbert post-surgery to know he’s healthy enough to play. The rest of the offensive skill players are probably also the healthiest they’ve been in a while. The offensive line has been a concern all year, and that won’t change in this one, but he’s still been able to deliver some big performances despite it. The Texans will pressure him relentlessly, but Herbert has the skill to get the ball out quickly, and the receiving weapons to make plays near the line of scrimmage.

Speaking of weapons, Omarion Hampton has looked great in his return to the field. He’s a great pass catcher and can help Herbert pad his stats in this one. The receivers looked unstoppable against Dallas. Although it would be tough to pick which one of them you would want to play in any given week, Herbert gets points no matter which one of them he throws to.

He also got eight carries last week. That was his sixth game with at least seven carries. The volume has helped give him a nice floor all season.

We saw Herbert go through a rough patch as of late, but I think the Dallas game was a real turnaround. The Chargers have more to play for than almost any other team. The matchup seems tough, but there are few players I’d rather start this week.

Baker Mayfield, Tampa Bay QB @ Miami Dolphins,

Baker also has a lot to still play for, which is one of the most important considerations for Week 17. Even if he didn’t, he is probably the type of player who is fueled solely by proving others wrong, but it’s still nice to know that this will be a meaningful game.

Mayfield hasn’t broken 20 fantasy points since Week 10, and he’s only done so three times this season. He nearly did it in Week 15 when Mike Evans returned to the lineup, and he scored 19 fantasy points. Unfortunately, that didn’t carry over to Week 16, as he only scored 12.

Thankfully, the Dolphins should prove to be an easier matchup this week. They just allowed Joe Burrow to throw for 300 yards, as the Bengals dropped 45 points on them. They are also expected to give Quinn Ewers another start, which should mean the Bucs have the ball for the vast majority of the game.

With all of the receivers finally healthy, it would be nice to see a vintage Mayfield performance. I have to imagine the team sees this game as a do-or-die for the season, and should come out swinging. I expect Mayfield to take some big shots, and against this defense, some should hit.

Week 18 Quarterback Streamers

Jaxson Dart, New York Giants QB @ Las Vegas Raiders

Ok, so I know that Dart should technically be considered a Sleeper based on his roster percentage, but after last week’s performance, there are going to be a lot of teams that send him to waivers. Don’t be one of them.

Yes, I am aware that he scored less than one-tenth of a fantasy point last week. Yes, I am also aware that Joe Flacco scored more with just a single four-yard pass. Let’s focus on the positives instead.

In 10 starts this season, he has scored over 20 fantasy points in half of them. He has scored over 19 points in two additional games. So yes, I am willing to bet that last week was a freak anomaly against a very good defense.

He gets a very bad defense this week.

The Raiders have given up at least 23 points in each of the past six weeks. They’ve given up at least 30 points in seven games this year, two of which went for over 40.

Dart had one very bad game. He only has one other game with fewer than 15 fantasy points. Everything else has been spectacular. In a game of making wagers, I’m willing to wager that Week 16 was the outlier. The smart money is on a good game from Dart.

Tyler Shough, New Orleans QB @ Tennessee Titans

I’ll forgive you for not paying attention to the Saints, but you should know, they’re actually kind of good.

Shough has gone 4-4 as a starter. His record would be even better if Chris Olave hadn’t dropped a game-winner against the Dolphins a few weeks ago. His first start was his only game with a completion percentage under 62%. While there was worry that he wouldn’t have the same passing volume that Spencer Rattler got at the start of the season, he has only one game in the past five with fewer than 32 pass attempts. He’s had two games with over 40 in that stretch.

He’s also running the ball extremely well. His two attempts in Week 16 were his lowest since Week 9. Four of his last five games saw at least 6 attempts.

The Saints’ defense has also been a turnover machine. Against the Titans in Week 17, that should not change. Shough should have plenty of time with the ball in this matchup.

While he doesn’t have an amazing ceiling, he has been very consistent. He hasn’t scored less than 17 fantasy points since Week 12. His volume as a passer and runner should give him a very reliable floor.

Shough likely won’t be able to win you your championship with a huge performance. But he also shouldn’t lose it for you. If you have a strong team that just lost a QB to injury, he could be the perfect fill-in.
