Week 4 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers

With the completion of the Monday night game, Week 3 is in the books. We had a lot of surprises, but if you followed the advice in last week’s Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers article, you were likely rewarded as we hit on 75% of last week’s calls!

Our big win comes in the form of Caleb Williams. After a terrible Week 2, the former No. 1 pick bounced back in a big way. Williams put up 298 yards and 4 touchdowns, which makes him the #1 Quarterback of the week. How about that for a sleeper?!?

We can also count wins for the calls on the Jonses: Daniel Jones and Mac Jones. Though Daniel Jones put up just shy of 16 fantasy points, he is still currently the QB10 on the week, so that’s another extension of his incredible hot streak (don’t forget we were already calling for him way back in Week 1 of this article).

Mac Jones can also be considered a win as he is currently the QB16. While 13.26 fantasy points is nothing to write home about, if you were in a position where you had to start Mac, a top-half finish is about as good as you could have hoped for.

Our sole bust, and it was a doozy of a bust, came from Michael Penix. The Falcons got routed in what should have been a competitive game with the Panthers. The second-year quarterback completed only 50% of his passes for 172 yards and two interceptions. He finished with under 4 fantasy points and got benched for Kirk Cousins. That’s about as bad as it comes.

Current Season Tally: 9-5

Now let’s take a look ahead at our Week 4 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers, to see who we should play to keep the train rolling.

Week 4 Quarterback Sleepers

Drake Maye vs. Carolina Panthers

I guess I’m going to just keep beating this drum for Maye, as he’s now been listed as a sleeper in this article in three of the first four weeks. He’s currently sitting as the QB5 on the season, and yet somehow, he’s still available in about 25% of leagues. The Patriots are still looking to shake off the stink of the past few years, it seems.

Through three weeks, Maye is averaging just over 35 pass attempts and exactly 7 rush attempts per game. While he’s yet to top 300 passing yards, he also has 5 passing touchdowns, plus an extra on the ground already.

He gets a great matchup at home against the Panthers this week. While they made Michael Penix look silly in Week 3, I don’t think they are going to give Maye nearly as much trouble. He spreads the ball around efficiently and consistently finds open targets. The New England run game hasn’t found enough traction yet to really eat into his passing work either.

Maye has enough volume to sustain his early-season performance, and the Patriots aren’t good enough to blow other teams out. Seriously, from here on out, he should be a set-and-forget until proven otherwise.

Jordan Love @ Dallas Cowboys

From an NFL standpoint, Love has been good. From a fantasy standpoint, he’s been leaving managers wanting more. While he’s still technically a top-12 quarterback on the season, two of his three outings have resulted in less than 16 points. He’s simply been too efficient while the Packers’ defense has been brutalizing opponents.

He had an especially rough Week 3 against the Browns, who have a severely underrated defense. Week 4 should be a different story. The Cowboys have been ok against the run, but terrible against quarterbacks. They let Russell Wilson throw for 450 yards against them in Week 2.

Micah Parsons is going to do everything in his power, and then some, to keep his former team’s offense off the field. I expect the Packers to have the ball a lot and they should be looking to embarrass Dallas in the primetime slot.

I expect this to be Love’s first smash performance of the year.

Week 4 Quarterback Streamers

Geno Smith vs. Chicago Bears

The Bears, much like the Cowboys, seem like a secondary to exploit with your QB, especially if you’re going with a streamer. Geno was essentially left for dead after a nightmare performance in Week 2 against the Chargers, but followed that up as the QB3 in Week 3 with a solid game against Washington.

I expect this game to be a back-and-forth affair from the get-go, so Smith should have to throw to keep up. I would think the Raiders are going to (or at least very much should) start trying to get Ashton Jeanty some room in space via more involvement in the passing game, as running him up the middle every time doesn’t seem to be working. We should also see if third-year receiver Tre Tucker’s WR1 performance in Week 3 was just a mirage or if the team is going to start utilizing him a lot more on offense.

Las Vegas has a lot to figure out, but the team seems to be moving in the right direction. This is a juicy matchup for Geno, and I hope he can capitalize. He always plays best when he has a chip on his shoulder, so just hope it’s still there after this past week.

Marcus Mariota @ Atlanta Falcons

Well, we’ve arrived at the super-deep streamer call of the article, and you can’t get too much deeper than Marcus Mariota. Obviously, this hinges on Jayden Daniels missing another week, but it wouldn’t be surprising with how quickly he was ruled out for Week 3.

Mariota was surgical in his replacement of Daniels against the Raiders in Week 3. He completed 71% of his passes, including a touchdown, and took 6 rushes for 40 yards and a score. He would have had another score on a McLaurin bomb, but that ultimately got ruled down at the 1-yard line. His 13.8 yards-per-completion tops either of Daniels’ games this season, and he’s accurate enough to hit all the short throws in the Kingsbury offense.

I don’t expect the Falcons to put up much of a fight. Mariota will have plenty of opportunity to rack up points through the air and on the ground. If you’re desperate, and plenty of us are with all of the QB injuries, Mariota should be in play.
