Fantasy Hockey Week 5 Goalie Streamers
Tristan Jarry, Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins stormed into November atop the Eastern Conference standings, something nobody expected after the last two seasons. The newcomers are playing well, and the veterans are on fire, leading the charge. This bodes very well for the goaltenders, particularly Tristan Jarry, who is fighting for his job after Arturs Silovs was brought in.
Jarry has five wins in six starts to go along with 2.35 GAA, .923 SV%, and one shutout. He has also won four straight games. Jarry and Silovs have gone back and forth all season, so after sitting out the previous game, Jarry should lead off the week with a start against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Following that, the team plays the Washington Capitals and then back-to-back against the New Jersey Devils and the Los Angeles Kings. Even though it’s not the easiest week, the Penguins and Jarry have fared well so far.
Jakub Dobes, Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens are another team that is a bit surprising to be exactly where they are. They were expected to be a playoff team, but have exceeded expectations to this point. Jakub Dobes is a big reason for that, as he has seemingly taken the starting job from Sam Montembeault. He has played four of the last six games and won all six games he’s played this season.
Montembeault led off the season with a game one start and started three of the first four games, but Dobes couldn’t be denied. He has a 1.97 GAA and .930 SV%. The Canadiens face off against the Philadelphia Flyers, Devils, and Utah Mammoth. Dobes should get two of the starts, leading off with the Flyers, as he was on the bench last game.
John Gibson, Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings appear to have chosen their starter for the time being, and it’s John Gibson. They brought him in, hoping to change their fortunes in net, and it has mostly worked. Ahead of the game on Sunday against the San Jose Sharks, Gibson had started six of the last eight games.
He won four of those games, but the SV% can improve. In only two of seven games this season has he posted a SV% above .900. Despite that, he has a good team in front of him and is being trusted to at least start most games right now. Take advantage of this while you can, as the Red Wings play the Vegas Golden Knights, New York Rangers, and Chicago Blackhawks this week.
