Fantasy Hockey Week 7 Goalie Streamers

Jesper Wallstedt, Minnesota Wild

The dynamic in the Minnesota Wild’s net might have changed recently as Jesper Wallstedt has played much better than Jonas Gustavsson. Wallstedt has started three of the past five games, won all three of the games, and has back-to-back shutouts coming into the week. On the other side of things, Gustavsson has posted a sub-.900 SV% in consecutive games heading into Sunday’s game.

Wallstedt has won four of six starts this season with a 2.10 GAA and .924 SV%. He has only had one bad start and is the goalie of the future, even possibly the present, for the Wild. If he’s playing this good and the team is struggling for wins, Minnesota is going to ride the hot hand. The Wild play three times this week against the Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Winnipeg Jets. While it isn’t the easiest schedule, Wallstedt is more likely to get multiple starts.

Stuart Skinner, Edmonton Oilers

Stuart Skinner has played much better than Calvin Pickard and is the clear starter, unlike at times last season. While the Edmonton Oilers’ goalie situation still isn’t good, Skinner has done what is needed for the Oilers to get the win in his last three starts. In the two most recent games, he posted .952 and .917 SV%.

Skinner has started five of the last six and eight of the last 10 games and should get three starts this week as the Oilers play four times. Their opponents are the Buffalo Sabres, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers.

Yaroslav Askarov, San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks are the bottom-feeders we’ve come to expect over the last number of years and are actually competing. One of the reasons why is Yaroslav Askarov, who has been excellent over his past four starts, posting .971 SV%, .966 SV%, .974 SV%, .967 SV%, and .947 SV% over his past five games. Four of those were wins, and he only lost because the Sharks got shut out.

Askarov isn’t starting every game as Alex Nedeljkovic got the most recent start, but that should mean the young goalie is turned to for three of the Sharks’ four games this week. San Jose matches up against the Utah Mammoth, LA Kings, Ottawa Senators, and Boston Bruins, and there’s no reason to think Askarov isn’t going to continue playing lights out.
