For one week, order was seemingly restored. At least, at the tight end position that is. Don’t get used to it, as we know nothing good truly lasts in the NFL. To say that injuries and upheaval are a constant this season would be an understatement. Tyler Warren continues to emerge, and Sam LaPorta and Trey McBride did what they were capable of. Now, let’s take a look at how everything translates into our Week 7 Tight End Rankings.

Injury Notes for Week 7
George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers
While nothing has been formalized yet, it appears that George Kittle will be returning to practice this week. That doesn’t mean he’s going to return to action in Week 7, but it’s something to keep an eye on. Should Kittle need another week to work his way back into the lineup, Jake Tonges will remain relevant. If not, then Kittle should return to our radars.
Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals
With a pectoral injury, Mike Gesicki is slated to miss some time. That means Noah Fant will step into the starting role, but given the state of Cincinnati’s offense, I’m not sure how much there is to see from a fantasy perspective. With Joe Flacco now under center, things have gotten a little better, but Fant did catch all four of his targets last week.
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
A knee injury forced David Njoku out of action on Sunday. At this point, it’s unclear whether Njoku will be active in Week 7. It’s something we should certainly keep an eye on as a Njoku absence only increases Harold Fannin’s value. Fannin is already having a successful rookie season, and he’s certainly capable of handling increased targets.
Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders
With the Las Vegas Raiders’ bye week coming up, it makes sense to be cautious with Brock Bowers. It appears the stud tight end will miss one more game before returning after the Raiders’ bye. That means we should expect another strong game out of Michael Meyer.
Ja’Tavion Sanders, Carolina Panthers
Heading into last week’s game, Ja’Tavion Sanders returned to practice, but ultimately didn’t return to action. Sanders should be recovered from his ankle injury to come back in Week 7 in what’s a solid matchup against the Jets.
Tight End Notes
Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders
With Brock Bowers out for another week, Michael Mayer is in position to take advantage of the situation. Last week, Mayer caught five passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. We haven’t seen much out of Mayer to this point in the NFL, but there’s some talent and upside in place. I’d expect him to be busy once again.
Oronde Gadsden, Los Angeles Chargers
Drafted in the fifth round, there was some upside surrounding the athletic Oronde Gadsden. After not playing the first two weeks, Gadsden has shown some flashes of what he’s capable of. Last week, that was especially the case as Gadsden was targeted eight times.
The rookie appeared to be in sync with Justin Herbert as the quarterback looked to his tight end often. With issues on the Chargers’ offensive line, Herbert had to get rid of the ball quickly, and Gadsden capitalized. He caught seven passes for 68 yards, and he’s capable of continuing on that path.
Evan Engram, Denver Broncos
It’s been a rough go of things to begin the season for Evan Engram. There wasn’t much offense for the Denver Broncos last week, but Engram was the leading receiver. That does need to be put in context, though, but it’s still worth noting for Engram’s outlook for the rest of the season.
Engram was targeted six times, and that translated into five catches for 42 yards. That came a week after Engram’s first touchdown catch of the season. As the Broncos continue to look for help in the passing game, Engram’s success should continue.
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams
Health was part of the issue for Tyler Higbee, but he did have his best game of the season on Sunday. With Puka Nacua sidelined for next week, I’d expect Higbee to continue to have a large role in the offense. With four catches for 40 yards and his first touchdown of the season, Higbee enters with strong momentum.
