Weekly Wrap: Week 24 of Fantasy Hockey

Hey folks, welcome back to the Weekly Wrap. It is crunch time. Week 24 of fantasy hockey means hearts have been broken, and hopes have been falsely raised with first-round upsets. Likewise, domination for some continues. For others, it’ll be a dog fight to the finish line.

I’m riding in all of these boats myself.

Without further ado, let’s dive in.

Week 24 of Fantasy Hockey

John Tavares, C, Toronto Maple Leafs

The media likes to say Tavares is washed up. His best years are behind him. Don’t tell him that. With five goals and nine points in his last four games, Tavares is red hot.

I acquired him at the deadline in two pools. It was a low gamble with the potential to pay big dividends. So far, that gamble has paid off.

Jonathan Huberdeau, LW/RW, Calgary Flames

How many people have given up on Huberdeau? This is the wild ride of fantasy hockey. As soon as you move on, the player busts out. In week 24, Huberdeau picked up six points in four games. In his last 14 games, he has 15 points and 21 points in his last 20 games.

With 57 points in 70 games, he is still a far cry from his Florida years. I also threw a dart at Huberdeau in one of my pools at the deadline, which is also paying off big time.

He’s quickly climbing my list of players to target this summer. A lot of owners will likely still be willing to part with him as a 55-point player. I think 75+ points are waiting in the wings next year.

Frederik Andersen, G, Carolina Hurricanes

One of the most frustrating players to own over the last three years. When healthy, he’s been a top 10 fantasy goalie. Unfortunately, staying healthy has been a real challenge. Luckily for fantasy owners he’s healthy for your playoffs. In week 24 of fantasy hockey, he won both his starts and dropped a sparkling .952 save percentage.

I say this with hesitation, he should see the lion’s share of starts down the stretch and into the playoffs. The hesitation is about his health. Load management to keep him healthy will likely limit his starts.

Dylan Holloway, LW/RW, St. Louis Blues

Holloway continues to impress in his first year in St. Louis. In four games last week, he picked up one goal, six assists, and 12 points over four games. With only 18 points in his first 89 NHL games over two seasons, I don’t think anyone predicted this level of breakout.

Holloway now has 60 points in 73 games. As the games get harder, Holloway is getting stronger. He’s produced 17 points in 13 games in March. Sitting at 162 games played, Holloway’s breakout threshold comes right around Christmas in the 2025-26 season.

Cole Perfetti, LW/RW, Winnipeg Jets

Perfetti reached his 200-game-played breakout threshold at the beginning of March. Keep an eye on his production down the stretch and next season. There’s a good chance he busts out to a brand new level of production.

With the injury to Gabe Vilardi, C, I had hopes that Perfetti would see the promotion onto the Jets’ first power-play unit. So far, at least, that hasn’t been the case. Gaining access to the first unit will be a big benchmark for his production in the years ahead.

Drew Doughty, D, Los Angeles Kings

Doughty is rounding into form just in time for the playoffs. His four points in four games in Week 24 give Doughty 12 points in 22 games. The production isn’t mind-blowing, but it’s steady.

You know what you’re going to get from Doughty over the next three weeks.

Jack Eichel, C, Vegas Golden Knights

Eichel added two goals and five assists to his point total last week. For the first time in years, Eichel has been healthy all season. The result is a career high in points, 90, and a legitimate shot at the first 100-point season of his career.

Filip Gustavsson, G, Minnesota Wild

The second half of the season has been an up-and-down one for Gustavsson. Right now, as the Wild fight for a playoff spot, it is up. Week 14 of fantasy hockey was Gustavsson’s week.

Gustavsson likely single-handedly won the goalie categories for fantasy teams. When you get a 3-0 record, with a 0.67 GAA, .976 SV%, and a shutout, you usually find yourself in the win column for most, if not all, of your goalie categories.

Thomas Harley, D, Dallas Stars

The 2025-26 season is going to be filled with intrigue. Miro Heiskanen, D, has now missed two months. In those two months, Harley has produced 21 points in 19 games, including 10 on the power play.

This is elite-level production. What happens next season when Heiskanen is healthy?

Ryan McLeod, C, Buffalo Sabres

McLeod picked up two goals and four assists on seven shots.

Since the turn of the calendar, McLeod’s production has taken off. In 31 games, he’s scored 11 goals and 14 assists. That .8 point per game pace is double his career average of .41.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, C/LW, Edmonton Oilers

In three games, Nugent-Hopkins scored four goals and added two assists. The six points came in two three-point games, including a hat-trick on Saturday night. Week 24 of fantasy hockey signaled

With both Leon Draisaitl, C/LW, and Connor McDavid, C, injured for at least the next week, Nugent-Hopkins will need to lead the Oilers’ offence.

Thomas Hertl, C, Vegas Golden Knights

I know the injury happened this week, but it’s important enough to flag here. Hertl isn’t on the Knights’ three-game road trip.

Hertl hit the boards heavily on Monday. There’s no report on the severity of the injury at this point, but I expect Hertl to miss more than the next three games. Keep an eye out for updates.

Alexander Ovechkin, LW, Washinton Capitals

Career Goals: 889 (36 on the season)

Gretzky’s Record: 894

To Tie Record: 5 Goals

To Break Record: 6 Goals

The Capitals have 11 games remaining in the regular season. At his current pace, Ovechkin could tie the record at game 79 or 80. With the Metropolitan Division all but sealed, it would be smart for the Capitals to rest their 39-year-old superstar for the playoffs.

But will they? Everyone wants to see Ovechkin break the record this year.

That will do it for this week.
