The NFC South is slowly but surely rebuilding toward relevance. Each roster was forced to figure out how to compete after losing its franchise quarterback, and each took a different approach to solving that question. Mishaps and misfires have shaped this division into what it is today, and we’ve finally reached a point where multiple teams are competitive. A more competitive division means more opportunities for fantasy-relevant players.
What!? Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season!? Once you see how Fantrax stacks up to the competition, we think you’ll be singing a different tune in the 2025 season.
2025 Fantasy Football Divisional Breakdowns — NFC South
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Looking Back on 2024
The Buccaneers entered the 2024 season with both optimism and skepticism. There was excitement around the offense as Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans developed a lethal connection the year prior. But there was uncertainty after losing offensive coordinator Dave Canales, who had a huge impact on Mayfield’s return to form. Luckily for Tampa Bay fans, new offensive coordinator Liam Coen found a way to keep the offense rolling.
Looking Forward to 2025
A new year, a new coordinator for Mayfield and company, and another chance to prove they’re here to compete. There’s a lot to like about the Tampa Bay offense, especially the wide receiver room. Patience will be required as Chris Godwin returns from injury and rookie Emeka Egbuka adjusts to NFL speed. The running back group has fantasy potential, with most eyes on Bucky Irving.
Fantasy-relevant players
Baker Mayfield, QB — Mayfield has gone from castoff to fantasy darling, elevating the value of the entire Buccaneers offense. He’s been a reliable quarterback with week-winning upside the past two years. Draft boards show him climbing, but he’s still a solid middle-round value.
Bucky Irving, RB — Irving emerged as the surprise RB1, giving managers a waiver-wire gem in 2024. He enters 2025 as the presumed lead back, though he’ll need to fend off challengers.
Mike Evans, WR — Evans has topped 1,000 receiving yards every season of his career, and that streak doesn’t look to end. He remains a quiet elite option often undervalued on draft day.
Fantasy question marks
Rachaad White, RB — White lost his starting role to Irving last season, but he remains a capable third-down back. He won’t siphon many touches but will be the first up if Irving misses time.
Emeka Egbuka, WR — With Godwin sidelined to start the season, Egbuka will step into a starting role opposite Evans. His talent suggests he could quickly become fantasy relevant.
Chris Godwin, WR — Godwin was on pace for a top-five fantasy season in 2024 before a leg injury. He’s expected to start on the physically unable to perform list, delaying his return until Week 5. A ramp-up period is likely.
Cade Otton, TE — Otton has flashed as a fill-in option, but his consistency remains low. He’s best used as an emergency option.
Fantasy long shots
Sean Tucker, RB; Jalen McMillan, WR — Tucker had one breakout game in 2024 but fell back into an RB3 role. McMillan contributed late last season but faces a crowded depth chart.
Atlanta Falcons
Looking Back on 2024
The Falcons signed veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins to a mega-deal while also drafting Michael Penix Jr. in the top 10. Cousins struggled to return from an Achilles injury and suffered another setback midseason, opening the door for Penix. The rookie showed promise, and Atlanta may have found its future starter.
Looking Forward to 2025
Atlanta has offensive weapons to contend for the division, but the key will be whether Penix can deliver consistent quarterback play. If he gets the ball effectively to Drake London and company, the Falcons will be tough to beat.
Fantasy-relevant players
Michael Penix Jr., QB — Penix offers accuracy and passing upside, even if he doesn’t add much rushing value. Fantasy managers want him to unlock this offense.
Bijan Robinson, RB — Robinson enters his third season as one of the league’s most talented backs. He should be a top-three fantasy pick.
Drake London, WR — Despite inconsistent quarterback play, London has produced top-20 fantasy numbers. He’s a strong WR1 option.
Fantasy question marks
Tyler Allgeier, RB — Allgeier is a dependable runner but stuck behind Robinson. He would be a must-add if Robinson misses time.
Darnell Mooney, WR — Mooney emerged as Atlanta’s WR2 last year but is currently sidelined with an injury. His return timeline is unclear.
Fantasy long shots
Kyle Pitts, TE; Kirk Cousins, QB — Pitts has failed to meet lofty expectations and carries significant risk. Cousins may eventually return, but health and performance remain major concerns.
Carolina Panthers
Looking Back on 2024
Carolina hired former Buccaneers coordinator Dave Canales as head coach in hopes of reviving the offense. Early struggles led to Bryce Young being benched for Andy Dalton, but Young finished strong, showing signs of being a capable starter. Running back Chuba Hubbard and undrafted rookie Jalen Coker provided surprising fantasy value.
Looking Forward to 2025
If Young continues improving under Canales, Carolina could become a fantasy hotspot. The risks are high, but the upside is enticing.
Fantasy-relevant players
Bryce Young, QB — Young finally flashed the talent that made him the No. 1 overall pick. Accuracy and late-season rushing upside boosted his fantasy value.
Chuba Hubbard, RB — Hubbard solidified himself as Carolina’s lead back and a consistent producer.
Tetairoa McMillan, WR — The Panthers’ first-round pick gives Young a potential star receiver. McMillan has already shown early chemistry with his quarterback.
Adam Thielen, WR — Though aging, Thielen remains a reliable safety valve and could open the season strong.
Fantasy question marks
Rico Dowdle, RB — Dowdle impressed with Dallas in 2024 and now joins Carolina as Hubbard’s backup.
Jalen Coker, WR — Coker broke out last season but faces competition from new draft picks.
Xavier Legette, WR — The second-year wideout is a project with breakout potential.
Ja’Tavion Sanders, TE — With Tommy Tremble sidelined, Sanders could carve out a role but will likely go undrafted.
Fantasy long shot
Hunter Renfrow, WR — Renfrow resurfaces in Carolina after a career decline. In a crowded receiver room, his path to relevance is slim.
New Orleans Saints
Looking Back on 2024
The Saints started the season with 91 points in their first two games before dropping seven straight. Managers of Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave certainly felt the rollercoaster.
Looking Forward to 2025
After firing Dennis Allen, New Orleans hired offensive-minded coach Kellen Moore. The quarterback room remains unsettled, but the offense will lean heavily on Kamara.
Fantasy-relevant players
Alvin Kamara, RB — Kamara remains the centerpiece of the Saints’ offense, similar to how Saquon Barkley anchors the Giants.
Fantasy question marks
Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough, QB — The rookies are battling for the starting job. Both carry low expectations for fantasy production.
Kendre Miller, RB — Miller sits behind Kamara but could earn touches in Moore’s system.
Chris Olave, WR — Olave’s talent is undeniable, but injuries and quarterback issues cloud his outlook.
Rashid Shaheed, WR — A big-play threat, Shaheed offers occasional upside but little consistency.
Juwan Johnson, TE — Johnson led the team in receiving yards last year, highlighting the offense’s struggles. He’s a serviceable fill-in.
Taysom Hill, TE — Hill remains a volatile gadget player. His production is unpredictable week to week.
Fantasy long shot
Brandin Cooks, WR — Returning to New Orleans, Cooks may tempt managers as a waiver add later in the year.
