2025 Fantasy Football: Week 5 WR and TE Starts and Sits

It’s time to look at those all-important Week 5 start and sit decisions for wide receivers and tight ends. Last week, our starts and sits were backwards for receivers. Our starts did not perform well, and our sits had their best games of their season. Marvin Harrison Jr. had 18.6 fantasy points and was the WR14.

For tight ends, all four did not perform well, and none finished as a TE1, so I was 50% correct on those. Let’s aim for at least a 75% hit rate in Week 5.

Week 5 Wide Receiver and Tight Ends Starts and Sits

Wide Receiver Starts

Chris Olave vs. New York Giants

Chris Olave has had double-digit targets in three of the four games this season. He currently has 43 targets, which is second amongst all wide receivers. In Week 5, he faces the New York Giants. The Giants are allowing over 40 fantasy PPG to the position. A big game is looming for Olave.

Marvin Harrison Jr. vs. Tennessee Titans

Marvin Harrison Jr proved me wrong last week. He had more fantasy points in Week 4 than he did in the previous two weeks combined. Up next are the Tennessee Titans, who are allowing the sixth-most fantasy PPG to the position. Harrison deserves a chance in your lineups after a superb Week 4 game.

Wide Receiver Sits

Jaylen Waddle vs. Carolina Panthers

Yes, Tyreek Hill is out for the foreseeable future, but that does not mean Jaylen Waddle is an automatic start. Jaycee Horn will cover Waddle, most likely. The Carolina Panthers are allowing 23 fantasy PPG to the position. Also, they have allowed just 396 total receiving yards across four games. Waddle will have more volume with Hill out, but this is not the week to start him.

Courtland Sutton @ Philadelphia Eagles

Courtland Sutton has been playing amazingly through four games. He is also outplaying his ADP from the off-season, but he now faces the Philadelphia Eagles. I truly believe the Eagles are the best team in the NFL. The game being away for the Denver Broncos does not help, either. Sutton being on the bench is more so because I think Bo Nix will have a terrible game.

Tight End Starts

Darren Waller vs. Carolina Panthers

The main beneficiary of Tyreek Hill being injured is not Jaylen Waddle. It is Darren Waller. Waller had just 27 yards in Week 4, but had two touchdowns. Those receiving yards will increase as he faces the Carolina Panthers up next. The Panthers are allowing the sixth-most fantasy PPG to the position over the first month of the season.

Dalton Kincaid vs. New England Patriots

Dalton Kincaid is on a pattern of the type of games he has. In odd weeks, he has finished as a TE1. On even weeks, it has been the opposite. This week, he faces the New England Patriots. They are allowing the ninth most fantasy PPG to the position, and it is an odd week. I bet Kincaid finishes as a TE1.

Tight End Sits

Mark Andrews vs. Houston Texans

With or without Lamar Jackson, Mark Andrews is one of my favorite people I have in starts and sits this week. Andrews had 10 fantasy points after 27 fantasy points in Week 3. He now faces a stingy Houston Texans defense. They are allowing just eight fantasy PPG to the position. That is the seventh fewest.

T.J. Hockenson @ Cleveland Browns

T.J. Hockenson has been a major letdown this season. He is averaging less than eight fantasy PPG and is the TE19 on a PPG basis. He had a great game in Week 3, but he has not played like his old self from 2022 and 2023. The Cleveland Browns have also allowed just 122 receiving yards to tight ends through four games. The Minnesota Vikings’ passing game runs through Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. Hockenson has been left behind.
