2026-27 Fantasy Basketball: Best Players to Target for Points

Score more points than the other team. At the root of it, we can’t get more simplistic than that. With that being said, points are generally the easiest category. Simply, it’s just because there are more points available than production in the categories. However, that doesn’t mean we can ignore it, though, as we still need to attack each category. The problem, though, is that as we hunt for some of the other categories, it’s possible to lose sight of points. If that happens, let’s take a look at some options as you look to take home that fantasy basketball title.

Best Players to Target for Points

Desmond Bane, G, Orlando Magic

Being the third option in Orlando shouldn’t be held against Bane. After all, he averaged 20.1 points per game last season in his first season with the Magic. It was the third season in which Bane has broken the 20-point average. Since his rookie season, Bane has averaged at least 18.2 points per game and, with a career high of 23.7, it’s clear he’s very comfortable putting the ball in the bucket. It’s all about knowing your role, and Bane does just that. He’s also now entering his second season with Orlando, and that should help with the comfort level.

He did take a step back last season as he averaged just 4.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game. That’s what puts him on this list, as he’s here to supplement specialists in those categories. With career highs of 6.1 rebounds and 5.5 assists, the ceiling isn’t very high on either category.

For a high-volume shooter, he had a strong 48.3% field goal percentage last season. Bane also shot 90.3% from the free-throw line, but the benefits are minimized by his 4.2 free-throw attempts last year. Given the type of game he plays, it shouldn’t be surprising that it was Bane’s career high.

Bane isn’t a true liability anywhere else, but you would like to see more from him. However, it’s nice to see the scoring.

Jalen Green, G, Phoenix Suns

Playing in only 32 games last season wasn’t ideal. Green’s debut with the Suns was marred by injury. When on the court, he still averaged 17.8 points per game, but they were empty points.

For his career, Green is averaging 19.6 points per game, so we clearly know what’s not a problem for the guard. To get there, though, he’s shooting just 42.2% from the field. That’s less than ideal, as Green doesn’t exactly fill the entire stat sheet. He averages just 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. But again, that’s not his game. However, it does suppress Green’s fantasy value.

Phoenix is a team in transition, and Green will be counted on heavily for offense. To be fair, he did work on developing and growing his playmaking skills this summer. It remains to be seen what that means as far as results, but the only place he can go is up. At the very least, Green does average 2.5 three-pointers per game.

Norman Powell, G/F, Chicago Bulls

Over the last seven years, Powell has truly emerged and come into his own as an offensive threat. Aside from 2023-24, Powell has averaged at least 16 points per game. In the last two seasons, he’s eclipsed the 20-point mark both times while averaging close to three three-pointers per game. But that’s where the production falls off the cliff.

If we go through the last seven seasons, Powell has averaged just 3.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and one steal per game. Yes, he’s shooting almost 83% from the free-throw line, so all is not lost, and he’s an asset from downtown, but things change quickly after that.

Powell is slated to start for a Bulls team that’s very much in the midst of a rebuild. All of the shots he wants should be available to him. It’s your job to make sure he fits into your roster. But if you need points, there’s no reason why Powell shouldn’t fit.
