Goalies are an already unpredictable position in fantasy hockey. Yet with each passing year, it seems to be getting even tougher to project how they’ll perform. Our rankers attempt the impossible and have released the initial goalie rankings for the 2026-27 fantasy hockey season.

Going into last season, there were only a handful of goalies considered to be safe choices. Connor Hellebuyck led the way in that regard. He was the two-time reigning Vezina winner as the league’s best goalie. Then 2025-26 happened, when he had a disastrous season. Anyone who drafted him early was extremely disappointed in how things played out. As a result, I can’t recommend reaching for a goalie early in the draft. Even the best of the batch should still be passed over to instead draft a reliable forward or defenseman. Form a solid core, then think about who to backstop your team.
If you’re going to be one of the first to draft a goalie, there’s no better place to start than Andrei Vasilevskiy. He won the Vezina last year, despite his fantasy performance not being the best we’ve seen from him. However, he’s still one of the more reliable netminders that can secure a good amount of wins. His Tampa Bay Lightning are routinely in the playoffs, and he’s relied upon heavily, so there’s no threat of him losing time between the crease.
Then there’s the next tier of six goalies: Logan Thompson, Jake Oettinger, Ilya Sorokin, Jeremy Swayman, Igor Shesterkin, and an expected bounce-back season from Connor Hellebuyck. These are the goaltenders with a track record of quality fantasy production, and who should all be uncontested within their own tandems.
Beyond them, you get into goalies with a lot of question marks. They may be on a good team but have poor fantasy numbers. Or they’re on a weaker team, and their stats will suffer because of it. Or the ever-increasing problem: they are in a timeshare, with no clear-cut indication of who will be the number one guy. These goalies come with risk, but can be quite rewarding if you can grab them late in the draft.
