I am back again, here to tell you who you must stash this weekend before the games start. Your homework is to check who’s on the wire in your league today and add potential value before Sunday’s games.
We’ll look at who is available in less than roughly 50% of leagues across platforms.
Here is a little rhyme for you to help you get through the weekend.
Hickory dickory dock,
The waiver wire’s unlocked.
The clock struck two,
My claim went through,
Hickory dickory dock.

Week 5 Weekend Waiver Wire
Quarterbacks
Kirk Cousins, Las Vegas Raiders
Cousins has thrown multiple touchdowns in each game this season. In Week 4, the total was 365 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was the first time he didn’t throw 3 touchdowns, but also the first time he threw for over 300 yards. Cousins now has 11 total touchdowns this season. Listen, Cuz, you need to add Kirk now.
Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers
Over the past two games, Rodgers has passed for over 290 yards and 3 touchdowns in each. His Week 5 matchup against the Colts is also pretty easy. The Colts give up the 6th most fantasy points to opposing teams’ quarterbacks. A-A-Ron will keep it going this week like a strange conspiracy theory.
Other quarterbacks to consider
- Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals: 166 yards, 2 TDs; 18 yards rushing
- Jameis Winston, New York Giants: 250 yards, 3 TDs
Quarterback Notes: Rodgers and Cousins are passing-making touchdowns all over the place. Jacoby Brissett may not be available in your league, but if he is, I included him here; he’s a great plug-and-play option for Week 5 against the Lions. If you need a QB and none of the first three appeals to you or are not available, Winston is your man. His schedule isn’t overly difficult, and at worst, he will be a great bye-week fill-in.

Running Backs
Will Shipley, Philadelphia Eagles
Shipley is an injury-created starter who may still be available even though waivers already ran Tuesday. Barkley’s hamstring kept him out of practice, and Bigsby’s move to injured reserve removes the back who would have competed most directly for early-down work. Shipley played 46.6% of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps in Week 4 and ran a route on 46.9% of the dropbacks. The potential workload still makes him the top add.
Other running backs to consider:
- Brian Robinson, Atlanta Falcons: 14 carries, 62 yards, 3 TDs; 1 reception, 5 yards receiving
- Keaton Mitchell, Los Angeles Chargers: 10 carries, 39 yards; 5 receptions,24 yards receiving
Running Back Notes: Brian Robinson continues to offer standalone value in Atlanta; he had 3 touchdowns in Week 4. Mitchell led the Chargers in running back snaps and has great PPR appeal. Shipley is not someone we ever expected to talk about and is probably the top addition right now because of his potential role in the Eagles offense.
Wide Receivers
Keon Coleman, Buffalo Bills
Coleman led the Bills in WR snaps after DJ Moore’s injury. He played 78% of the offensive snaps. He was second on the team in targets with 7, a 21% target share. Coleman turned that into 6 receptions, 116 yards, and a TD. He has been playing a lot this season and could be turning into a player.
Tre Harris, Los Angeles Chargers
Harris played 93% of the Chargers’ offensive snaps last week and has drawn 12 targets over the past two games. McConkey has now missed two practices with the foot injury that kept him out of Week 4. Denver ranks 22nd against wide receivers, but Patrick Surtain also missed practice, which improves the matchup.
Other Wide Receivers to Consider
- Darius Cooper, Philadelphia Eagles: 7 targets, 3 receptions, 33 yards, 2 TDs
- Roman Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers: 6 targets, 3 receptions, 74 yards, TD
- Malik Washington, Miami Dolphins: 5 targets. 5 receptions, 67 yards; 2 carries 3 yards rushing
- Isaiah Williams, New York Jets: 3 targets, 2 receptions, 73 yards, TD
Wide Receiver Notes: Colman should be the top addition at wide receiver, but I would keep my expectations reasonable with any Bills WRs. Cooper led the Eagles in WR snaps and targets with Smith out. Wilson has 6 targets in every game this season; I like him as a solid weekly floor play. Washington is leading the Dolphins in receiver snaps and targets. With AD Mitchell out for the Jets, Williams sets up as a nice play in a great matchup against the Commanders defense in Week 5, plug-and-play.
Tight Ends
T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings
If you read my Late Slate article, I had Hockenson written up as a play in a great matchup against Miami. He lived up to that with 13 targets, 13 receptions, and 119 yards. In Week 5, he faces a Saints defense that gives up the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends. Add him and play him. Mighty Mouse Murray will be looking for him.
Other Tight Ends to Consider
- Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams: 6 targets, 5 receptions, 67 yards
- Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders: 10 targets, 8 receptions, 82 yards
- Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals: 5 targets, 3 receptions, 40 yards, TD
- Darren Waller, Carolina Panthers: 6 targets, 3 receptions, 36 yards
- Brenton Strange, Jacksonville Jaguars: 8 targets, 7 receptions, 95 yards
Tight End Notes: Hockenson produced in a matchup he was expected to handle well. Higbee stayed involved even with Puka Nacua back in the lineup. Gesicki will be more involved if Ja’Marr Chase misses time. Waller will likely keep his target share around 6 per game; that is an excellent sign. Mayer is showing he can get some individual involvement but will lack consistency. I want to see more from Strange before I play him with confidence.
My Priority Order
- Will Shipley, RB
- Keon Coleman, WR
- J. Hockenson, TE
- Brian Robinson, RB
- Tre’ Harris, WR
- Malik Washington, WR
- Keaton Mitchell, RB
- Roman Wilson, WR
- Kirk Cousins, QB
- Aaron Rodgers, QB
NOTE: Look at that, I made a list of exactly 10; you knew I could do it eventually.
