We will look at who is available in less than roughly 50% of leagues across platforms. Discover who may or may not be plug-and-play in Week 6, and how they might hold value down the line.

Here is a little rhyme for you to help you get through the weekend.

Week 6 Weekend Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers, Pittsburgh Steelers

Rodgers has passed for 3 touchdowns in each of the last three games. He is balling. His Week 6 matchup against the Buccaneers is tough.  After that, he has only two tough matchups the rest of the way. If you lost Jalen Hurts or just need a bye-week fill-in, he’s someone I would add.

Jameis Winston, New York Giants

Winston is a passing machine again. He has 3 passing touchdowns in each of the last two games. In Week 5, he threw for 326 yards and 3 touchdowns. Only a few tough matchups remain on his schedule, and in the last two weeks of the fantasy playoffs he faces the Lions (Week 16) and the Cowboys (Week 17).

Other quarterbacks to consider

  • Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals: 292 yards, 3 TDs; 19 yards rushing
  • Tanner McKee, Philadelphia Eagles: Will be starting for the Eagles

Quarterback Notes: Rodgers is a touchdown threat no matter who is catching the ball for him this season. Jacoby Brissett is widely available again, and the Cardinals coaching staff appears to want him to sling it. Winston is my personal favorite of mine because he simply makes fantasy fun. He will throw again and again, and he turns his receivers into fantasy studs. McKee is a viable add in two QB leagues; I would like to see what he does.

Running Backs

Dameon Pierce, Philadelphia Eagles

Apparently, I should leave this slot open for “New Eagles Started Running Back”. This week it appears to be Dameon Pierce. That may be the only reason to add him. He averaged 1 yard per touch in Week 5.

Other running backs to consider:

  • Samaje Perine, Cincinnati Bengals: 14 carries, 68 yards; 2 targets, 2 receptions, 10 yards, TD receiving
  • Kimani Vidal. Los Angeles Chargers: 8 carries, 57 yards, TD
  • Kendre Miller, New Orleans Saints: 10 carries, 30 yards, TD
  • Tyjae Spears, Tennessee Titans: 2 carries, 0 yards; 9 targets, 9 receptions,28 yards receiving

Running Back Notes: Pierce is someone who should be rostered this week; I am unsure about playing him. Vidal could produce but is in a horrible 3-headed running back committee. Miller and Spears may have some value. Miller looks like the only Saints RB who can do a lot of things. Spears is really a PPR back only. Not much to see here this week. Jaleel McLaughlin and Dylan Sampson of the Browns could both be relevant this week, so watch the injury news on Quinshon Judkins. What a mess this is!

Wide Receivers

Germie Bernard, Pittsburgh Steelers

Roman Wilson got injured, and Bernard’s value rose. He saw 9 targets in Week 5 and turned that into 6 receptions and 80 yards. He also had 1 carry for 4 yards. With Michael Pittman on IR, Germie (Who the hell names their kid Germie) will have opportunities with the Steelers.

Kendrick Bourne, Arizona Cardinals

He played only 49% of snaps in Week 5. He caught 5 of 8 targets for 70 yards. With Marvin Harrison Jr. traded, Bourne may get more targets. He is a good speculative addition if you have the space.

Other Wide Receivers to Consider

  • Darius Cooper, Philadelphia Eagles: 3 targets, 2 receptions, 71 yards, TD
  • Efton Chism, New England Patriots: 6 targets, 5 receptions, 57 yards
  • Jaylin Noel, Houston Texans: 5 targets. 5 receptions, 41 yards TD

Wide Receiver Notes: Germie Bernard is a plug-and-play. Everyone else here is a speculative addition. Bourne could be a steady flex play in the Cardinals’ offense. Cooper will have who knows what at QB this week. Chism may end up a PPR darling by season’s end. Noel has value in leagues that also take into account return yards he is almost a stud.

Tight Ends

Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers

Freiermuth has three touchdowns over the past 2 games. Aaron Rodgers looks for him in the red zone. The Steelers have had a few wide receiver injuries. So, the passing tree has fewer branches. Muth is a solid add-and-play

Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams

Higbee isn’t getting much attention, but he keeps getting the football. He has at least six targets, five catches, and 62 yards in each of his past three games. Now he faces a Cardinals defense that allows the fourth-most fantasy points to tight ends. The workload is there, and the matchup gives us another reason to like him. You don’t get extra fantasy points for a flashy name. Play Higbee in Week 6.

Other Tight Ends to Consider

  • Hunter Henry, New England Patriots: 4 targets, 3 receptions, 44 yards, TD
  • Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals: 2 targets, 1 reception, 4 yards, TD
  • Eli Raridon, New England Patriots: 5 targets, 5 receptions, 57 yards

Tight End Notes: Freiermuth would be my top tight end addition this week. He is a plug-and-play; I am shocked he is still available in over 50% of leagues. Higbee is also a player you can add and play in Week 6. Henry is a nice add in great matchups, but it appears Raridon will eat into some of that production. I only want to play either Patriot TE in good matchups; leave them on the wire for now. Gesicki has scored a touchdown in three straight games; he is interesting in 2 TE leagues.

For a typical one-quarterback PPR league, this is how I would prioritize these additions. Your roster needs matter: an available starter who fills an empty lineup spot is more useful than another bench passenger.

  1. Germie Bernard, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers.
  2. Pat Freiermuth, TE, Pittsburgh Steelers.
  3. Tyler Higbee, TE, Los Angeles Rams.
  4. Dameon Pierce, RB, Philadelphia Eagles.
  5. Samaje Perine, RB, Cincinnati Bengals.
  6. Kendrick Bourne, WR, Arizona Cardinals.
  7. Jameis Winston, QB, New York Giants.
  8. Tyjae Spears, RB, Tennessee Titans.
  9. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers.
  10. Kendre Miller, RB, New Orleans Saints.

Reedy Rule: Fill this week’s lineup hole first. Then use your remaining bench space to buy next week’s opportunity before everyone else starts shopping.
