Believe it or not, there are plenty of good plays at both wide receiver and tight end this week. Which made writing this easy. Remember, I love volume and matchups, and you should too. To stick to this season’s trend, I have another little ditty for you:
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, fantasy fan,
Start me a wideout who’s part of the plan.
Target him, stack him, and mark him with “S,”
Give me the volume and skip all the stress.
Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, tight ends are tough,
One lucky touchdown is never enough.
Check out the routes and the targets he gets,
Then pick your starters and dodge those regrets.
Let’s move on to wide receivers and tight ends for your Week 8 starts and sits.

Week 8 Starts and Sits
Wide Receiver Starts
Zay Flowers, Baltimore Ravens
Flowers is having a fantastic season. He has a 31% target share of all Ravens passes. He averages over 10 targets per game over the past 4 games. His low was 9 targets in Week 5. He has scored 10 or more fantasy points in every game this season. But wait, there’s more. This week the Ravens play the Bills. The Bills give up the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Zay will brighten your day like a beautiful bouquet of Flowers in Week 8.
Stefon Diggs, Washington Commanders
The Commanders play the Eagles in Week 8. The Eagles give up the second most fantasy points to wide receivers. Diggs has seen at least 6 targets in every game this season. He has a 20% target share and 20% of the Commanders’ air yards. Terry McLaurin is out. Diggs will be the focal point of the Commanders’ passing game in a great matchup.
Keenan Allen, Indianapolis Colts
I know this one feels icky. But don’t worry if you hate it; Allen has produced double-digit fantasy days, and Week 8 offers plenty of good wide receiver plays. But let’s talk about Keenan for a moment. In good matchups Allen has produced double digit fantasy days this season. He has roughly 20% of the Colts’ target share and 17% of the Colts’ air yards. He will be involved. This week, the Colts play the Jaguars, who give up the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers.
NOTE: The next section covers guys like CeeDee Lamb, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson. I hope I don’t have to write a paragraph for each of them to tell you to play them.
Other Wide Receiver Starts:
Michael Wilson draws a Cowboys defense allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to wide receivers, making him a strong flex play, while DJ Moore gets a favorable matchup against Baltimore’s eighth-most generous unit. CeeDee Lamb has a high ceiling against Arizona, which allows the ninth-most receiver points. Ja’Marr Chase has scored in three of his past four games and now faces a Titans defense allowing the tenth-most receiver points. Makai Lemon enters the flex conversation after seven catches for 67 yards and his first touchdown, with another chance to see increased work if Philadelphia’s injured receivers remain sidelined. Justin Jefferson rounds out the group against Detroit, which allows the fourth-most fantasy points to receivers, a tasty matchup indeed.

Wide Receiver Sits
Luther Burden, Chicago Bears
The Seahawks are up, and they give up the fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. I know we all love Luther. He has been great this season. But in 7 games so far, only 2 wide receivers have posted double-digit fantasy scores against the Seahawks. This is a floor week. Do not let Luther become a burden for you in Week 8.
Jaylen Waddle, Denver Broncos
The Broncos play the Chiefs in Week 8, and the Chiefs give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Waddle also has a chest contusion, which means he is dinged up. He’s broken double-digit fantasy points only twice this season. Easy sit.
A.J. Brown, New England Patriots
Brown has seen 16 targets over the past two games. He has 6 receptions for 75 yards. His catch rate is 38%, which is just plain ugly. To top it off, the Dolphins are up in Week 8. The Dolphins give up the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ wide receivers. You are probably playing him, but it may not be pretty.

Tight End Starts
T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings play the Lions in Week 8. The Lions give up the most fantasy points to tight ends. In 6 games this season, 8 different tight ends have scored double-digit fantasy points against the Lions. Tight ends average 9 receptions, 100 yards, and 1,7 touchdowns per week against the Lions.
Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
Goedert has seen 24 targets over the past three games. He has averaged just about 6 receptions and 49 yards over that span. In Week 1, the Eagles also played the Commanders, and Goedert saw 5 targets, turning them into 4 receptions for 7 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Commanders give up the second-most fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. Great week to play Goedert.
Hunter Henry, New England Patriots
Henry has had four straight games with either 60 yards or a touchdown. This week, he is playing a Dolphins team that gave up two touchdowns to Mason Taylor in Week 7. They do not defend the position well. They give up the third-most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. I like Eli Raridon here too!
Other Tight End Starts:
Mason Taylor was a start last week and responded with 62 yards and 2 touchdowns against the Dolphins. In Week 8, he faces a Raiders team that has allowed 8 touchdowns to tight ends this season. Kyle Pitts has 4 touchdowns over the past three games. Michael Penix looks for him, and the matchup against the Buccaneers is a good one.
Tight End Sits
Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions
LaPorta has been good in good matchups this season and less effective in bad ones. In Week 8, the Lions play the Vikings. The Vikings give up the fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends. No tight end has for 65+ yards or a touchdown against the Vikings this season.
Darren Waller, Carolina Panthers
Every so often, Waller has shown flashes of being an absolute baller. In Week 7, Waller had 1 reception for 50 yards and a touchdown. Well, in Week 8, the Panthers play the Packers. The Packers, you see, defend tight ends exceptionally well. They give up the second-fewest fantasy points to opposing teams’ tight ends.
Coleston Loveland, Chicago Bears
Loveland has really come alive the past two games. 19 total targets, 13 total receptions, 134 total yards, and 2 touchdowns. He has over 60 yards and a touchdown in each game. I know you can do the math there, but I told you anyway. The Seahawks are up, though, this week. No tight end has gone for more than 44 yards, and only two have scored touchdowns. Loveland needs a touchdown to save his day.
Volume identifies the opportunity. The matchup determines whether to attack it.
