Take a long, hard look at your dynasty fantasy football league roster. Does your team have a realistic shot at winning the title this year? If you answered no, or even hesitated, then you should be focused on building for 2027 (or 2028). Here are some sneaky trade candidates you should be trying to acquire if you’re in rebuild mode.
Rebuilding in dynasty fantasy football can be fun. There is no week-to-week stress about who to start, winning and losing, and playoff positioning. Committing to the rebuild allows you to cast a wider net, chase upside, and take more chances.

Players to target in Dynasty Leagues for Rebuilding Teams
Jayden Higgins, Texans WR
Higgins is out for the season with a torn ACL. The Texans have now made two trades in the hopes of replacing him. First, they traded for Kayshon Boutte. Then they sent serious draft capital to the Cardinals for Marvin Harrison, Jr.
Houston knows that they have a team that is ready to win. Despite an 0-4 start, they are going for it. And good on them for trying.
The Harrison, Jr. trade is going to bump Higgins’ dynasty value down not only because of the assets Houston gave up, but because Harrison, Jr. played with CJ Stroud at Ohio State. This seems like the change of scenery that Harrison, Jr. needed, right?
That’s certainly the conventional thinking, but don’t get fooled by Harrison, Jr. again. Go get Higgins for peanuts on the dollar if you’re rebuilding. He had 10 targets in the AFC Wild Card Round loss to the Patriots. If he didn’t tear his ACL, the Texans likely don’t trade for Boutte or Harrison, Jr.
Don’t forget that Michael Wilson usurped Harrison, Jr. as the WR1 in Arizona. Why can’t Higgins pass him on the depth chart in the offseason?
Devaughn Vele, Saints WR
Vele is not going to be the centerpiece of any dynasty trade you make. He’s a throw-in. A sweetener, if you will. His value should dip soon, too, as 2026 first-round pick Jordyn Tyson gets ramped up.
So why should you trade for a sneaky old wide receiver (he turns 29 in December) who is the number three option at best? Because he produces whenever he gets an opportunity, and he is in a pass-centric offense.
Vele is averaging a tick under 10 fantasy points per game (half-point PPR) on more than seven targets per game this season. In fact, that’s exactly what he averaged in his final four games last season.
You could do a lot worse in the flex than the WR3 on the team that leads the league in pass attempts. Plus, both of the wide receivers ahead of him on the depth chart could fairly be characterized as injury-prone.
Brenton Strange, Jaguars TE
One of the truest credos in fantasy football is to get players on good offenses. The Jaguars finished with the 11th best offense last season in Liam Coen’s first season. Trevor Lawrence had a career year and appears to have picked up where he left off (tied for fifth with 10 TD passes). Guess who’s second on the Jaguars in receiving yards? That’s right. Strange.
He finished as TE22 last season. Through five games in 2026, he’s TE12.

Terrance Ferguson, Rams TE
Ferguson is on injured reserve with an ankle sprain. He is not the centerpiece of any dynasty manager’s 2026 plans, but he could be a stalwart of your team in 2027 or 2028.
The Rams really like Ferguson. They took him with the 46th pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. This August, head coach Sean McVay said, “I think what can’t be misunderstood or minimized is how smart this guy is. He plays every single skill position except for halfback for us.”
Ferguson had six catches on nine targets for 54 yards and a touchdown in Week 2 against the Giants. He was the de facto #2 WR with Puka Nacua out. That is a phenomenal role for any tight end to have.
Make the bet on Ferguson becoming the player the Rams think he can be. Trade for him now.
Adam Randall, Ravens RB
Randall is a 5th-round rookie who has not played a down in the NFL. He played wide receiver in college before converting to running back. There is a lot that has to go right for him to pay off in a meaningful way as a dynasty asset, but the upside is astronomical.
Randall is 6’3, 232 pounds, and ran a 4.5 forty-yard dash. That size/speed combination is rare. It’s so rare that his NFL comparison is none other than Derrick Henry, who is above him on the Ravens depth chart.
The small chance that Randall is the heir apparent to Henry in Baltimore is worth the cost to get him on your roster if you’re rebuilding.
Jonah Coleman, Broncos RB
The 4th- round rookie out of Washington was the talk of the town at Broncos training camp. He was praised for being wise beyond his years, thriving in pass production, and being able to run between the tackles.
In Week 2, Coleman rushed 10 times for 39 yards and a touchdown. He vaulted to RB29 on KeepTradeCut. A sprained ankle landed him on IR, but there is a clear role for him when he returns. His upside is known in the dynasty community, but if he’s on a contender, you might be able to grab him for a more sure-fire 2026 contributor.
Caleb Douglas, Dolphins WR
Douglas had 94 receiving yards in his NFL debut. That was the sixth-best total among wide receivers in the last decade.
- Marquise Brown- 147 yards
- Terry McLaurin- 125 yards
- Puka Nacua- 119 yards
- Ja’Marr Chase- 101 yards
- J. Brown- 100 yards
- Caleb Douglas- 94 yards
The next three guys on that list are DK Metcalf, Zay Flowers, and Drake London, so Douglas is in some elite company.
Douglas injured his ankle in Week 2 and has been out ever since, so he’s an afterthought for teams trying to win this season.
See if you can get him worked into a deal, and you may just have a WR1 or WR2 in the years to come.
