Quarterback changes were the name of the game in Week 12, with five quarterbacks getting their first starts of the season. Changes under center continue this week, as Deshaun Watson is slated to be the Browns’ new starter. In addition to the quarterback carousel, bye weeks also affect the Week 13 quarterback rankings, with Kyler Murray and Sam Darnold out. Add to that a couple of injuries, and there are lots to unpack at the quarterback position in Week 13.
On the injury front, Matthew Stafford will miss Week 13 with a strained neck. John Wolford will get the start against Seattle. In Chicago, Justin Fields has been dealing with a shoulder injury, but is good to go this week. Keep an eye on Aaron Rodgers. He suffered a rib injury in Week 12 and it was also reported that he’s been playing with a fractured right thumb. It’s looking like he’ll suit up, but if not, Jordan Love would get the start. As always, monitor the injury reports throughout the week and adjust your lineups accordingly. Good luck in Week 13!
Quarterback Notes
Bye Weeks: ARI, CAR
- Trevor Lawrence has been coming on strong lately. In his last three starts, he has the seventh-most fantasy points among quarterbacks. Over that period, he has a total of 815 yards, six touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He also tacked on a combined 80 rushing yards. Lawrence gets a juicy Week 13 matchup against the Lions who have allowed the most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. Lawrence should continue to roll this week and is a top-eight option for me.
- Derek Carr has been one of the steadiest and most productive quarterbacks of late. He’s thrown at least two touchdowns in each of his last four games, and his 1,109 passing yards over that span are tied for third-most behind Patrick Mahomes and Tua Tagovailoa. He also scored the 10th-most fantasy points among quarterbacks during that period. Carr gets a plus matchup against the division-rival Chargers who have allowed the 13th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Carr last faced the Bolts in Week 1 where he threw for 295 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. He’s my QB11 this week.
- Deshaun Watson is eligible to return this week following an 11-game suspension. He’s a dual-threat quarterback who could provide some pop to the Browns’ offense. Watson last played a full season in 2020 where he finished as the QB5. He led the position in passing yards (4,823) and had the fifth-most rushing yards (444) through 16 games. For his Week 13 debut, Watson gets a revenge game against Houston. The matchup is a tough one, with the Texans being the third-best defense against quarterbacks. Watson falls just outside my top 12, but he certainly has QB1 upside this week.
- Mike White was fantastic in his first start against the Bears last week. He finished as the QB6 and elevated the Jets’ passing game. White completed 22 of his 28 passes for 315 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. He has another opportunity to shine in Week 13 with an appealing matchup against Minnesota. The Vikings give up the most passing yards to quarterbacks, and they allow 19.06 fantasy points to the position, tied for fifth-most. White is a QB2 with upside this week.
