Fantasy Football 2024: Week 2 RB Rankings

Week 1 is in the books and man does it feel good to have football back in our lives. As we go into my Week 2 RB rankings, I wouldn’t put the panic meter on RBs like Jonathan Taylor, Derek Henry, or Bijan Robinson. These guys all went in the first and second rounds, but remember it was just Week 1.

Let’s examine what I was right and wrong about last week. Robinson didn’t finish as my RB1 despite his matchup. But, he was on the field for 89% of offensive snaps. He also had five targets and 18 carries. Compared to Tyler Allgeier’s three rushing attempts and no targets. Robinson didn’t have his RB1 week but don’t panic as he is going to be a bellcow.

Alvin Kamara and Kenneth Walker III both hit for me. I had Kamara as my RB14 and Walker as my RB10. Kamara finished tied for RB6 and Walker as RB8. Both of these guys must start every week. Lastly, I was wrong about Rhamondre Stevenson as he had a field day against the Bengals. This is something I will take my loss on, but it did show that the Patriots can still move the ball. Stevenson is one to keep an eye on this season.

Running Back Notes

  • Joe Mixon took me by surprise in Week 1. He had 30 carries. I repeat 30 carries. This ties his career high which has only been done twice. The last time he had 30 carries was in 2021. But, with those 30 carries he had 159 yards and a touchdown. The Texans have a great receiving core and now they have a run game. This could be a career year for Mixon as the Texans can establish their run game through their passing game. Mixon is my RB8 against the Bears. Tony Pollard just dropped 82 yards and a touchdown against them. I expect Mixon to do the same and score around 20 fantasy points.
  • J.K. Dobbins jumps up to my RB16 against the Carolina Panthers. The thing with Dobbins has always been health. And while he is healthy he is a must-start. This is a great matchup as Kamara and Jamaal Williams both found the endzone last week. So, even with Gus Edwards still getting carries, it was Dobbins who produced. I expect Dobbins to have a huge game as the Charger’s receiving core is middle of the road.
  • Lastly, I have Ezekiel Elliott as a sneaky flex play as my RB32. Elliott was someone when late in drafts, but going forward Elliott looks like a valuable fantasy option this year. He got his goal-line touchdown as expected. And it was Elliott who was the one to get the only red zone touch over Rico Dowdle. The Cowboys have the Saints this week who did shut out the Panthers. But, it was the Panthers. If you need a flex play this week, start Elliott.
