Come one, come all for the Fantrax basketball writers’ combined fantasy basketball shooting guard rankings. The players are ranked for 8- or 9-category standard fantasy leagues – think of it as 8.5-category leagues. Scroll below and there they are – the 2024-25 shooting guards ranked.
2024 Fantasy Basketball Shooting Guard Rankings
Tier 1
1. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (OKC)
For now, Gilgeous-Alexander is the best and surest pick at shooting guard. He’s ranked as a top 3 fantasy player in the previous two seasons and is a reasonable bet to do so again. The departure of Josh Giddey should give Shai an even bigger playmaking role if that’s even possible. Gilgeous-Alexander ranked third in the league in usage last season.
Tier 2
2. Tyrese Haliburton (IND)
3. Donovan Mitchell (CLE)
4. Anthony Edwards (MIN)
5. Stephen Curry (GS)
All four players here can perform at the absolute top level if healthy. Tyrese Haliburton struggled the second half of the last season with injuries and didn’t play at the Olympics due to a leg injury. While that’s something to keep in mind, these shouldn’t carry over to the new season. Anthony Edwards should increase his offensive role even further with Karl-Anthony Towns joining the Knicks. Whether Curry had a singular down year in 2023-24 or is aging out of the elite tier remains to be soon.
Tier 3
6. Scottie Barnes (TOR)
7. James Harden (LAC)
8. Kyrie Irving (DAL)
9. Devin Booker (PHO)
10. Kawhi Leonard (LAC)
Harden and Leonard played 72 and 68 games for the Clippers last season, which is quite a lot by modern standards and would justify a second/third-round fantasy draft pick. Barnes had his breakout year and is looking to remain a top-30 player in fantasy. Kyrie, me, personally, I would stay away but your mileage may vary.
Tier 4
11. Tyrese Maxey (PHI)
12. Paul George (PHI)
13. Dejounte Murray (NO)
It’s going to be interesting to see how the usage gets distributed in Philadephia. Joel Embiid is hinting at, perhaps, not going 100% in the regular season, which is great news for Maxey’s and George’s fantasy values. Maxey is clearly the future 76ers star, but George has also historically been a high-usage player.
Tier 5
14. Jalen Williams (OKC)
15. Cade Cunningham (DET)
15. Jaylen Brown (BOS)
17. Franz Wagner (ORL)
18. Jamal Murray (DEN)
19. Desmond Bane (MEM)
20. Immanuel Quickley (TOR)
The biggest upside of the group, in my mind, is with Franz Wagner and Immanuel Quickley. Wagner needs to find his shot again and Quickley needs to just pound the ball and ignore his teammates. Cade Cunningham is coming into his fourth season and is yet to break out. Perhaps his destiny is indeed the same as Jamal Murray’s as a solid point guard and that’s it.
Tier 6

The Knicks will be an intriguing fusion of high-usage players. I have a feeling one (Towns) will be left behind by the others and, basically, Mikal Bridges will get his. DeMar DeRozan will be another interesting new signing fit. He’s been a top 40 fantasy player for a decade straight and I think that will continue with the Kings quite thin at the 2, 3, and 4 positions. The White-LaVine conundrum will diminish both players’ stat lines unless LaVine is traded but for that to happen, he will likely need to play well.
Tier 7
30. D’Angelo Russell (LAL)

A lot of these guys could end up having massive upside – Bradley Beal could stay healthy and shoot the lights out, Brandon Ingram could have a vintage Ingram season, and Jalen Green could take the next step and become the next superstar. For a lower ceiling but a surer thing, look at Holiday, Anunoby, Giddey, Reaves, or Suggs.

Now, in a standard-size league, these guys shouldn’t really be drafted. The playing time and upside here is pretty limited. Some will get hot shooting streaks, I’m sure, but that’s impossible to predict. For a sleeper, try Dyson Daniels.
