Week 15 Flex Rankings for Fantasy Football

After a long season full of twists and turns, we have finally reached the fantasy football playoffs. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done if you are still competing for a championship. But realize that now is not the time to rest on your laurels. There is still plenty of work to be done between now and Championship Week. And while the pool of available players should be relatively large this week with all 32 NFL teams in action, that does not mean everything is smooth sailing. There are still plenty of minefields to navigate. I will touch on a few as I reveal my initial set of Week 15 Flex Rankings.

All Eyes on Isaac

Few situations around the league have caused more angst among fantasy football managers this season than the situation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers backfield. Christian McCaffrey was the consensus number-one overall pick in fantasy drafts, only to miss half the season with calf and Achilles injuries. Jordan Mason filled in admirably in McCaffrey’s absence for a while before fading in October. All seemed to be back to normal following the team’s bye. McCaffrey returned to a bell-cow role, although the results were not up to his normal standard of production. Things truly fell apart in Week 13. Both McCaffrey and Mason suffered serious leg injuries. The team placed both backs on Injured Reserve, leaving rookie Isaac Guerendo as the last man standing. Guerendo finished as the overall RB2 last week, only to suffer a foot sprain of his own.

This is a tricky situation for fantasy managers to deal with heading into Week 15. Guerendo is reportedly day-to-day with the injury. San Francisco plays on Thursday night, which is a bit of a conundrum. On one hand, we will know relatively early whether Guerendo will play. The downside is that he has less time to heal than he would if the 49ers were playing on Sunday or Monday. For now, Guerendo is an RB2 and a top-40 overall option in my Week 15 Flex rankings. But this is very much a fluid situation. If Guerendo is unable to play, Patrick Taylor Jr. is the most likely beneficiary. It is also possible that Deebo Samuel gets more carries out of the backfield. He carried the ball five times last week, which was his highest total since Week 1.

Breece and Bucky

New York Jets running back Breece Hall missed his first game since the 2022 season last week. Hall sat out with a knee injury, and his status for Week 15 is uncertain. In Hall’s absence last week, the Jets split the backfield work virtually evenly between Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Both players finished as RB2s in 12-team leagues. New York has an excellent matchup versus the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. Jacksonville has given up the second-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. For now, I have Hall ranked as a top-20 running back, with Allen and Davis on the outside looking in. If Hall plays without restrictions, he is a potential RB1. If he remains out, both Allen and Davis are viable Week 15 Flex plays.

Bucky Irving entered last week as one of the hottest backs in the league from a fantasy perspective. He was the overall RB16 before last week, including an RB9 ranking from Weeks 6 through 13. Unfortunately, he also entered last week dealing with hip and back issues. Irving’s back injury flared up on him early in last week’s win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Irving had just five touches for 18 yards before exiting prematurely. His availability for Week 15 is very much in question. Unlike the situation with the Jets’ backs, Irving does not have a favorable matchup this week. The Los Angeles Chargers have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to enemy backs this year. I currently have both Irving and Rachaad White ranked as borderline Week 15 Flex options. White would become a volume-based RB2 if Irving is forced to miss this contest.
