A lot is shifting with goalies recently and it is a great opportunity for you to grab some of the surging netminders who have moved into favourable positions. Your fantasy hockey team is going to be better off for it as the goalie streamers this week are as good as they have been all season.
Fantasy Hockey Week 17 Goalie Streams
Cam Talbot, Detroit Red Wings
It appears as though Cam Talbot has reclaimed the starting job for the Detroit Red Wings with his strong play and through the recent injury to Alex Lyon when he was playing well. Losing out on a lot of starts and taking a backseat to Lyon a while ago made him widely available for fantasy players and the Red Wings are no team to scoff at.
The team and Talbot have won two games in a row and he posted a shutout in his most recent start. Following a six-game losing streak, the veteran has now won seven of his last eight games and has a .926 SV% to go along with four wins over the past two weeks. The Red Wings don’t necessarily have an easy schedule this week, but head coach Todd McLellan will be behind the bench against the last two teams he coached to begin the week with against the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. Detroit then plays the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks on a back-to-back later in the week. I expect Talbot to get two starts at minimum and three starts max.
Elvis Merzlikins, Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets continue to play great hockey as the team has won seven of their last 10 games and are in a Wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. A good portion of that is due to Elvis Merzlikins having a bounce-back season. His numbers have looked better overall, but he has a .907 SV% in the last month and a .934 SV% in the last two weeks.
Merzlikins has won six of his past seven starts and eight of his last 10. Even when he isn’t posting a high SV%, the Blue Jackets are still able to score goals and keep the team in every game. There is a big separation between Merzlikins and Daniil Tarasov this season, so there are no worries the former is going to lose his starting job. Columbus plays the struggling Vegas Golden Knights and then the Utah Hockey Club back-to-back followed by the Dallas Stars to close out the week. Merzlikins will get two of those starts.
Alex Nedeljkovic, Pittsburgh Penguins
Alex Nedeljkovic has outlasted Tristan Jarry and is very likely the starter for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the remainder of the season. Jarry was just sent to the minors for the second time and that appears to be the last unless there’s an injury. Nedeljkovic posted a .915 SV% last week, a .931 SV% over the past two weeks, and a .903 SV% over the past month. These are all very workable numbers even though the Penguins would do better for him if they could score/win more.
Nedeljkovic is not only a top streamer option this week because he is likely going to start all three games for the Penguins and is now the clear-cut starter, the team plays the 32nd-ranked San Jose Sharks, a Utah team that isn’t very good at home, and the 29th ranked Nashville Predators. If there was a time to stream Nedeljkovic, it’s this week.
