Fantasy football championships aren’t won in the first six weeks — they’re earned through savvy midseason moves.
As Week 7 approaches, managers must keep refreshing their rosters via the waiver wire. Which players are stepping up due to injury? Which rookies are emerging as reliable options? And who can help you survive the upcoming bye-week Armageddons?

Teams on Bye for Week 7: Ravens & Bills
Before we dive in, double-check your waiver wire for these players in case they slipped through:
AJ Barner, Mason Taylor, Evan Engram, Tayson Hill
Tight End Streamers
Harold Fannin Jr., Cleveland Browns
David Njoku exited Sunday’s game multiple times with a knee injury, and with the Browns’ Week 9 bye looming, there’s a strong chance the team lets him rest.
Hopefully, some of you beat the breakout for Fannin. In Week 6, he posted career highs in targets (10), receptions (7), and yards (81). His usage was elite, 81% snap share, 75.8% route share, and a 20.8% target share.
Even before Njoku’s injury, Kevin Stefanski was scheming ways to get him involved, regardless of quarterback. With Dillon Gabriel under center — a QB who thrives in the short and intermediate areas — Fannin should be here to stay this time.
Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers have been banged up at wide receiver; unfortunately, that trend continued as rookie receiver sensation Emeka Egbuka (hamstring) is likely out. This situation looks similar to last year for Cade Otton. Last season, he thrived when Mike Evans and Chris Godwin were sidelined, and we’re seeing a repeat in 2024. Otton suddenly finds himself as Tampa’s most reliable target. He’s turned in back-to-back strong performances (4/81/0 and 5/51/0) and led the team with six targets in Week 6 while playing every offensive snap.
If the Bucs’ receiver room remains depleted, Otton is a top-10 play at the position next week versus Detroit.
Michael Mayer, Las Vegas Raiders
With Brock Bowers (knee) likely sidelined again, Michael Mayer enters the Week 7 streamer conversation. He’s coming off a 16-point fantasy outing versus the Titans (50 yards, TD), and while the matchup with Kansas City isn’t easy, Mayer’s role is growing.
The Raiders are on bye in Week 8, which limits long-term appeal, but Mayer’s short-area reliability makes him a plug-and-play option for anyone dealing with injuries or byes.
Tight End Sleepers
Oronde Gadsden II, Los Angeles Chargers
The rookie Oronde Gadsden II delivered a breakout in Week 6, catching seven of eight targets for 68 yards while playing 75% of snaps and running routes on 82% of dropbacks.
He bounced back from an early fumble and earned praise from head coach Jim Harbaugh, solidifying his growing role in a high-powered Chargers offense. Even with Quentin Johnston returning soon, Gadsden’s athleticism and reliability give him streamer appeal moving forward — especially catching passes from Justin Herbert. He’s my favorite deep league upside player at the position. The Colts have allowed at least 40 yards or more to the position in each of their past four games.
