Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Week 5 Defense Streamers

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Target for Week 5

Brock Faber, Minnesota Wild

There was a recent change to the power play for the Minnesota Wild, and it resulted in Brock Faber’s role increasing significantly. Instead of Zeev Buium quarterbacking the power play, which has been very effective for the Wild, Faber was moved up and they saw an immediate change.

It resulted in Faber being more into the game as he recorded a goal and five points in a two-game span, three of which came on the power play. He started shooting more when the Wild made the change as well. The young defenseman continues to also block a fair amount of shots. For the moment, Jared Spurgeon is the defenseman on the top power play, but given he has just two points on the season, that is likely to change again. The Wild match up against the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders, and Calgary Flames, which is a good week for some more scoring.

Brandt Clarke, Los Angeles Kings

The Los Angeles Kings are a little more mediocre than they have been in recent years, but it has allowed Brandt Clarke to finally see an increased role on the back-end. He is regularly lining up on the second pairing and is on the second power-play unit since the team has been running with five forwards on the top unit.

In his last five games, Clarke has a goal and five points. He is shooting much more and even blocking more shots than he had at the beginning of the season, as production comes more with opportunity. The Kings still have games against the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins this week.

Philip Broberg, St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues have started the season pretty poorly, and to counter that, there have been changes. Philip Broberg is on the top pairing and is also on the top penalty kill. He is coming into his own on the Blues’ defense and is really worth a look based on his past 4-5 games.

Broberg has three assists, 12 shots, 4 hits, and 6 blocked shots in his past four games and is playing well over 20 minutes per game. The Blues are one of the teams that still have three games remaining this week. They face the Washington Capitals, Buffalo Sabres, and Seattle Kraken. Expect the production to continue.
