Fantasy Hockey Injury Report

Jack Hughes, C – New Jersey Devils

The Devils received an early Christmas present with the return of Hughes. He scored a goal on two shots in just under 21 minutes of ice time, in a 3-1 loss.

Hughes has only played more than 62 games once in his NHL career. Let’s hope this is his injury for 2025-26. If so, this will become just the second time he’s played more than 62 games in a season.

When he is on the ice, he produces at a 100-point pace. Hopefully, he can stay on the ice. The condensed schedule adds an extra challenge to the fragile center.

Timo Meier, LW/RW – New Jersey Devils

Hughes wasn’t the only good news for the Devils; Meier returned in the same game. While he didn’t hit the score sheet, he did rack up seven shots in 16:19 of ice time.

An interesting note, Meier only had 34 seconds on the power play in that game. Stephan Noesen snagged the fourth forward spot on the first unit. Meier’s value takes a hit without first unit exposure. Regardless, he’s playing with Nico Hischier and Jesper Bratt. He’ll get his chances at five on five.

J.T. Miller, C/RW – New York Rangers

Miller took a thunderous open ice hit from Nick Seeler Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. He left the game and did not return.

He’s now listed as week-to-week and was seen in a sling. Expect Miller to miss approximately three weeks with what appears to be a shoulder injury. Brett Berard was recalled filling the roster spot.

Will Cuylle and Alexis Lafrenière both received time with the first power play unit without Miller in the line-up. This spot could remain fluid until Miller’s return.

Seth Jarvis, RW – Carolina Hurricanes

Jarvis’ injury appears to be a bit more serious than Miller’s. There is concern he won’t be ready in time for the Olympics in February. He is listed as week-to-week; however, ‘at least a month’ might be more accurate. If there’s any significant update on his timeline, we’ll include it in a future report.

Hard to believe Jarvis is still only 23. He was on pace for 70 points, and at 3.2 shots per game, he was on pace for a career high in shots (264 – 82-game pace).

Tristan Jarry, G – Edmonton Oilers

Anyone else starting to believe the Oilers are cursed in net? Jarry suffered a lower-body injury halfway through his third game with the Oilers and is now expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Calvin Pickard has been dreadful so far this year. There is the potential that Connor Ingram, who was recalled from Bakersfield, could provide stability during Jarry’s absence.
The Oilers signed him earlier this year after the Utah Mammoth terminated his contract.

There’s some hidden upside with Ingram. I love a good underdog story, and Ingram could be a great one. The Oilers paid a price to get Jarry, but Ingram could play himself into a backup role if Pickard continues his poor play.

Leo Carlsson, C – Anaheim Ducks

Sitting Carlsson last night makes all kinds of sense. It’s the Ducks’ last game before the holiday break. Why not give your breakout star an extra couple of days to rest up?

In this condensed schedule environment, skipping last night could prevent a longer-term injury. He could return as early as the next game, on Saturday, December 26th.
