Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Week 12 Defense Streamers

This is a short week in the NHL, and since the three-day Christmas break starts today, that means there are only two days of games remaining for this week when the teams come back. Two games is the most a team is going to play to close out this week, so there are a couple of options that play both days on the weekend and a good one-game player as well.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Target for Week 12

JJ Moser, Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning are one of the only teams with two games this weekend, and with Darren Raddysh owned in a high percentage of league due to how his season is going, and Victor Hedman out, JJ Moser is the next best option that has also been playing well with the higher workload.

Moser has two goals and five points in the last six games, and now that he’s regularly playing over 22 minutes per night, he’s doing everything else at a higher rate, such as shooting, hitting, and blocking shots. The Lightning play the Florida Panthers and Montreal Canadiens to close out the shortened week.

Noah Hanifin, Vegas Golden Knights

Noah Hanifin is on the Vegas Golden Knights, one of the teams not playing twice this weekend. But he was included as a streaming option since he is now on the top power play with Shea Theodore out of action for the time being. Hanifin has recorded three power-play points in his last two games on the top unit.

Hanifin’s ice time per game has popped up 2-3 minutes per game since Theodore was injured and is the go-to option on the back-end for now. The Golden Knights play the Colorado Avalanche, not an easy opponent, but Hanifin is still a good option to even hold on for longer than one game.

Jake McCabe, Toronto Maple Leafs

There are scarce options on the waiver wires that are valuable enough to stream for this weekend and also play twice, but Jake McCabe could be a sneaky option if you’re looking for two games and Moser isn’t available. The Toronto Maple Leafs play twice.

McCabe may not shoot the puck, but he does play a good amount and makes up for it with his hits and blocked shots. He also happens to have recorded four assists in the past six games for the struggling Maple Leafs. Their opponents this week are the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings.
