Dynasty rankings season rolls on, and today I’m turning my attention to shortstop in dynasty leagues. At FantraxHQ, my dynasty rankings are built to help fantasy baseball managers stay ahead of the curve, whether you’re contending now or building for the future. Shortstop remains the deepest and most dynamic fantasy position in 2026, blending elite five-category stars with a rapidly growing pipeline of high-upside prospects. Unlike many positions, shortstop offers impact across power, speed, and batting average, making positional advantage especially meaningful in dynasty formats.
Evaluating shortstops requires balancing bankable production against long-term upside. Many of the elite names at the position are still in their primes, while a wave of teenage and early-20s talents are pushing toward stardom with tools that can reshape dynasty rosters for the next decade. Lineup context, athleticism, durability, and category diversity matter more here than almost anywhere else. These rankings reflect that balance between present dominance and future ceiling.
As always, these dynasty shortstop rankings are strictly fantasy-driven. Playing time, offensive upside, age, category contributions, and lineup context are weighted far more than defensive value or real-life accolades. The goal is maximizing long-term fantasy impact, whether you’re chasing a title or building for sustained dominance.
If you aren’t playing your dynasty leagues on Fantrax, you’re missing out on the deepest player pool and most customization around. Just starting out in a dynasty league? Then check out our Top-400 Overall Fantasy Prospects and Top-500 Dynasty League Rankings.
How I Approach Dynasty Rankings
- Fantasy Focused: Rankings are based solely on projected fantasy value (power, ratios, counting stats, etc.), not defensive prowess.
- Criteria: Production (especially Statcast indicators), park context, age curves, durability, and role stability all factor into these rankings.
- Position Eligibility: Players are ranked at first base if that is where their fantasy value is derived. Some names here have multi-position eligibility, but they’re included at 1B because of their impact with the bat at this position.
- Your Team, Your Vision: Use these rankings as a guide, not gospel. A win-now contender might favor a 34-year-old still raking, while a rebuilding team might target a younger player with upside. Adjust accordingly for your team’s competitive window.

Top 20 Dynasty Shortstops
20 | Willy Adames | SF | MLB | 30
Adames brings steady power and durability to the shortstop position, now calling Oracle Park home. He remains a reliable source of 20-plus home runs with strong RBI totals thanks to his middle-of-the-order role. While the batting average can fluctuate, his pull-side power and plate discipline keep him fantasy relevant. At 30, he’s more of a stability play than an upside swing. Dynasty managers should view him as a dependable CI/MI option for competitive rosters.
It took Willy Adames all of one season to break San Francisco’s 20-year 30-homer drought, even after a first half that made many question the $182 million deal. But a 137 wRC+ from July onward paired with elite defense quelled any doubts.

19 | JJ Wetherholt | STL | AAA | 23
Wetherholt continues to impress with one of the most polished hit tools in the minors. His advanced plate discipline and consistent contact profile point to strong batting averages at the next level. Power is more gap-oriented than over-the-fence right now, but there’s room for growth as he matures physically. St. Louis views him as a long-term infield fixture. In dynasty formats, he profiles as a high-floor shortstop with OBP value.

18 | Colt Emerson | SEA | AAA | 20
Emerson’s blend of bat speed, athleticism, and approach makes him one of Seattle’s most exciting infield prospects. He shows advanced feel for contact for his age and projects to add power as his frame fills out. The organization has been aggressive with his development, reflecting their confidence in the bat. While still young, his fantasy ceiling continues to rise. Emerson is a strong dynasty stash with long-term upside.

17 | Bo Bichette | NYM | MLB | 27
Bichette moves into a new chapter with the Mets, where he’s expected to play third base while retaining shortstop eligibility. His elite bat-to-ball skills and consistent hard contact make him a strong ratios contributor. Power has dipped slightly from peak levels, but he still profiles as a 20-homer bat. At 27, he remains firmly in his prime. Dynasty managers should value the positional flexibility and bankable production.

16 | Geraldo Perdomo | ARI | MLB | 26
Perdomo offers a strong blend of on-base skills, speed, and everyday role security. He doesn’t overpower pitchers, but his plate discipline and contact ability drive steady fantasy value. Arizona continues to trust him at the top of the lineup, boosting his run-scoring upside. While the ceiling isn’t flashy, the floor is extremely useful. He’s an excellent glue piece for dynasty builds.

15 | Sebastian Walcott | TEX | AA | 19
Walcott’s physical tools stand out immediately, with easy power and surprising athleticism for his size. He’s young for the level but already flashing impact potential on both sides of the ball. Approach refinement will be key as he climbs the ladder. Texas remains patient with his development. Dynasty managers chasing upside should be very interested here.

14 | Corey Seager | TEX | MLB | 31
When healthy, Seager remains one of the best pure hitters in baseball. He offers elite power, strong ratios, and middle-of-the-order production. Durability is the primary concern entering his early 30s. Still, his bat plays at an MVP level when on the field. Dynasty contenders can ride the production while accepting the risk.

12 | Leodalis De Vries | OAK | AA | 19
De Vries is one of the most exciting teenage shortstops in the minors. His bat speed and early power indicators hint at a high offensive ceiling. Oakland has pushed him aggressively, signaling confidence in the profile. There will be volatility along the way. Dynasty managers should view him as a high-upside long-term investment.

Griffin’s athleticism and loud tools make him one of the highest-upside prospects in baseball. He shows early power-speed traits that translate well to fantasy formats. The hit tool is still developing, but the ceiling is enormous. Pittsburgh is investing heavily in his growth. He’s a true dynasty swing for the fences.
