This week’s fantasy hockey defensemen streamers are a bit more unconventional and not the players you’d usually find here. But in a week where options aren’t so plentiful and grittier players are performing offensively and play three times, it’s an opportunity to do things a little differently for success this time around.

Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Target for Week 16
Josh Manson, Colorado Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche continue to roll along at a torrid pace and are scoring at will. Everyone is benefiting, even someone like Josh Manson who recently had the game of his career with two goals and four points. Beyond just that, he has assists in back-to-back games and shoots, hits, and blocks shots, to mention piling up the penalty minutes.
With Devon Toews out, Manson has taken on a larger role and it’s showing. If he can keep chipping in on offense, even every second game, combined with the rest of his production for fantasy hockey, he is very worth looking to add, especially for the three remaining games this week. The Avalanche play the Anaheim Ducks, Philadelphia Flyers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Jacob Trouba, Anaheim Ducks
Jacob Trouba is someone who started off hot when the Ducks were playing very well, but was then off the scoresheet for the most part for a good while. That has turned around as of late, and he is playing with Jackson LaCombe on the top pairing.
Trouba used to be a defenseman who could put up points, but that went away for a number of years. With eight goals and 21 points this season, he has found something. He has a goal and three points in the last four games while playing at least 24.5 minutes per game. He’s on the second power-play unit at the moment and even contributed a power-play point in his last game. He will shoot, hit, block shots, and take penalties at a high rate. The Ducks still have games against the Avalanche, Seattle Kraken, and Calgary Flames this week.
Sean Walker, Carolina Hurricanes
For banger leagues especially, Sean Walker has been a force the last couple of weeks and pretty much all season. He has taken on a large role this season with the Carolina Hurricanes and done well in that role.
Walker has assists in back-to-back games and has been taking a lot of penalties. He also continues to contribute shots, hits, and blocked shots. While playing on the second pairing, he is also a top penalty killer. The Hurricanes only have two games remaining, but they’re against the Chicago Blackhawks and the Ottawa Senators who have one of the worst SV% in league history.

While the defensemen with higher offensive potential and overall output aren’t available this week for the most part, these three should do just fine. Be sure to come back next week for goalie, forward, and defenseman streamers once again.
