This week is LOADED with games, with an unusually high number of teams playing four games:
Anaheim Ducks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks, Seattle Kraken, St. Louis Blues, Toronto Maple Leafs, Utah Mammoth, Winnipeg Jets, and the Washington Capitals
The New Jersey Devils are the only team playing two games.
Breaking it down:
Four home games: Minnesota & Washington
Three home games: Montreal, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Seattle, Buffalo Sabres, Dallas Stars
Four road games: Anaheim, Calgary, Los Angeles, San Jose
Three road games:
Ottawa is the only team with three games on off-nights (fewer NHL games). All three off-night games are at home.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire
Forward Streamers
Shane Pinto, Ottawa Senators
(Fantrax: 61% owned).
I try to avoid single-position players as a streaming option, especially when that position is center. However, the three off-night home games create the exception.
Pinto is playing well of late, coming off a three-point game against the Kraken Saturday night. He’s playing over 19 minutes per game right now and contributes across the board.
In three games in March, he has four points, six penalty minutes, eight shots, six hits, and four blocks.
Lastly, the Senators have the loosest schedule this week. Their opponents are giving up an average of 3.27 goals per game. This is the most of any NHL team’s schedule.
Mats Zuccarello, Minnesota Wild
(Fantrax: 61% owned)
Another player with a higher owned rate than I would prefer. That said, I just can’t ignore the opportunity. The Wild play all four of their games this week at home. The combined record of the Wild’s opponents is the third-worst of any NHL team’s schedule.
Zucarello remains stapled to Kirill Kaprizov’s side and the Wild’s first power-play unit. He has five points in his last six games and is quietly on a 71-point pace for the season (82-game pace). Potential waiver wire deployment doesn’t get much better than this.
Charlie Coyle, Columbus Blue Jackets
(Fantrax: 54% owned)
Potential streamers rarely get hotter than this. Coyle’s running white hot, with 24 points in his last 20 games. He’s showing no signs of slowing either, with seven points in his past five games.
The only knock, Coyle isn’t getting time on the Blue Jackets’ first power-play unit. Â The production is predominantly coming at five on five.
One warning: you may fall in love with the consistent production and find it hard to drop him at the end of the week.
Mason Marchment, Columbus Blue Jackets
(Fantrax: 45% owned)
Marchment continues to roll since being traded to Columbus from Seattle. He continues to cook, with 19 points in 20 games. Lining up on the top line with Adam Fantilli and Kirill Marchenko, there should be no slowing with his production.
He’s also getting prime looks with the Jackets’ first power play unit. He should be rostered in more pools than he is.
Defenseman Streamers
Owen Power, Buffalo Sabres
(Fantrax: 49% owned)
Admittedly, Power is blocked by Rasmus Dahlin for the first power-play unit; however, he still provides a good opportunity for even-strength scoring.
The Sabres are rolling, and Power has been contributing, with four points in his past four games.
Damon Severson, Columbus Blue Jackets
(Fantrax: 13% owned)
Severeson is almost assuredly available, owned in just 14% of Fantrax pools. He has five points in his past four games. He’s never lived up to the offensive ceiling that was projected early on in his career. He has had several prolonged hot stretches in his career that left analysts wondering, ‘Is he finally breakingout?’ The answer was always no.
Regardless, Severson is hot, the Jackets are hot, and he has four games this week. If in need…
Goalie Streamer
Connor Ingram, Edmonton Oilers
(Fantrax: 51% owned)
The Oilers play three of their four games on the road, where Ingram has played significantly better. Compare .881 save percentage at home to .909 in five road games.
Neither Ingram nor Tristan Jarry has played well of late. Really, neither should be given the next start. Since one of them has to, Ingram has won two of his past three, including the 8-1 drubbing of the Kings last week.
