Trade negotiations can be difficult in dynasty fantasy football. Getting two managers to think that they each got the better end of a deal is inherently tricky. One way to fast-track a deal? Overpay for a player and leave no doubt that the other manager got more value. But who should you overpay for? Below you’ll find five players I have identified as overpay candidates.

In the Spring of 2025, I traded Breece Hall and a 2025 1st-round pick for Puka Nacua and a 2027 3rd-round pick. Other managers in my league immediately said that the other manager won the trade. I knew they were wrong. Puka finished as the WR1 in fantasy last year. Breece Hall was RB20.
Sometimes you overpay on paper to get a player that you feel will be a winner for you in the long run.
Overpay for these 5 Players in Dynasty Fantasy Football
Chuba Hubbard, Panthers RB
Hubbard is not famous. Your mom has never heard of him. Despite his lack of name recognition, he consistently delivers elite fantasy production at running back.
Hubbard is the RB6 right now. In 2024, he finished the year as RB12. He’s had 30+ catches in three straight seasons. Plus, he’s linked to an elite play caller in head coach Dave Canales, who’s been cooking this season. Carolina has the 2nd best offense in the league through six games.
Age is a slight concern. Hubbard is 27, but he’s under contract for two more seasons. Projecting out more than two years in dynasty is a fool’s errand. Pay up for him now and you’ll get an RB1 for the remainder of this season and an RB1/RB2 for next season.
Players/Picks I’d trade for Hubbard right now:
- Mid 2027 1st
- Chargers WR Ladd McConkey
- Browns RB Quinshon Judkins
Denzel Boston, Browns WR
Boston is WR20 so far this season. He has scored 10+ fantasy points in four of his six games. He leads all rookies in receiving yards and touchdowns.
Honestly, Boston is exactly what you hope your early 2027 draft pick will turn into. That’s why I’d rather have the bird in hand in Boston than hope that, say, Texas’ Cam Coleman or whoever will be available in your 2027 rookie draft will turn into a WR1. Boston has proven that he can produce at the NFL level and that should matter a great deal.
Players/Picks I’d trade for Boston right now:
- Early 2027 1st
- 49ers WR De’Zhaun Stribling and a 2027 2nd
- De’Von Achane
DeVonta Smith, Eagles WR
This might count as a buy low considering the state of the Eagles right now. There are plenty of unknowns about how Philadelphia’s roster will look a year from now. Will Jalen Hurts be the quarterback? Will Saquon Barkley still be in the backfield?
One thing we can safely assume is that Smith is going to be the WR1. Volume is king in fantasy football, and Smith will be getting plenty of it. He’s averaging more than 10 targets per game this season, and there’s no reason to think that will change. Even if the Eagles land a top-10 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, they have plenty of other holes (offensive line, quarterback?) that they should fill before spending another first-round pick on a wide receiver.
Players/Picks I’d trade for Smith right now:
- Jordyn Tyson and 2027 2nd
- Tee Higgins and Kendre Miller
- Garrett Wilson
Tyler Warren, Colts TE
For the past few summers, I have heard more and more about how tight end is deeper than ever. I reject that premise entirely. As far as I can tell, if you don’t have a top five tight end, you are doing it all wrong. Warren is just that. It’s Brock Bowers, Trey McBride, Warren, Colston Loveland, and three or four guys with an argument to be fifth. I would go with Sam LaPorta, but Isaiah Likely is presenting a strong case so far this season.
Warren finished third among all tight ends last season with 112 targets. Whether it was Daniel Jones, Riley Leonard, or Philip Rivers, all of the Colts’ quarterbacks were looking for him. Those 112 targets were the most on the team. Warren was a rookie last season. That volume is why you should overpay for him right now.
Warren is a foundational player for the Colts. He is a chess piece that the new general manager will be building around.
Pay up to lock in your tight end for the next five to ten years in dynasty.
Players/Picks I’d trade for Warren right now:
- Matthew Golden
- 2027 mid 1st
- Emeka Egbuka and a 2027 3rd
Brock Purdy, 49ers QB
I had Purdy as a buy-low candidate before the season. The price has gone way up, but I still think he’s worth the investment. Purdy is the QB3 so far this season, and his pass catchers have been dropping like flies. Ricky Pearsall is out for the year. De’Zhaun Stribling, Demarcus Robinson, and Christian Kirk are on injured reserve. Deebo Samuel missed last week with a hamstring injury. And now Mike Evans may miss time as he deals with an Achilles injury.
The Kyle Shanahan offense continues to chug along (9th in total offense) with Purdy at the controls. It doesn’t seem to matter who his wide receivers are as long as he still has George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey to throw to.
The case for Purdy as a QB1 in dynasty is simple. First, he’s done it before. Are you ready for his fantasy finishes from the past three years? QB7, QB10, and QB4. Second, he’s in a high-scoring offense that has established itself as one of the league’s best year over year. Lastly, he can beat you with his legs. Purdy is currently seventh among QBs in rushing yards in 2026. He’s on pace for 442 rushing yards, which would be a career high.
Before we get to what I’d trade for Purdy, I should note that quarterback value varies more than any other position in dynasty fantasy football. If you are in a one-quarterback league, the value is suppressed. If you’re in a two-quarterback league, the value is heightened.
Players/Picks I’d trade for Purdy right now:
- Jameson Williams and a 2027 mid 1st (2 QB league)
- Fernando Mendoza and a 2028 mid 1st (2 QB league)
- Bucky Irving (1 QB league)
- Jordan Love and a 2027 2nd (1 QB league)
