Week 6 Fantasy Hockey injury report:

Kirill Marchenko (RW, Toronto Maple Leafs)

Timeline: Vague beyond Week-to-week

Who benefits from this injury: Gavin McKenna (LW)

Marchenko had 11 points in his last nine games before injury, and was just hitting his stride. Luckily, it doesn’t appear to be too serious. Don’t get me wrong, week-to-week still sucks; however, when ACL is mentioned, this is far better than months or season-ending.

With Marchenko on the shelf, McKenna has been elevated to the Leafs’ first power-play unit. Lining up with Auston Matthews (C) and William Nylander (RW) is far better than Nick Paul (C) and Easton Cowan (RW).

In limited ice time, McKenna has still managed 11 points in his first 16 NHL games. It feels like only a matter of time before he’s either moved into the top six or the Leafs shuffle their lines to create a more balanced top nine.

Alexander Barkov (C), Brad Marchand (LW, Florida Panthers)

Timeline: 2-3 weeks

Both Barkov and Marchand are still a couple of weeks away from returning to games. Regardless, this is huge news for Barkov owners and the Panthers. They have been without their captain for 13 months. The Panthers imploded in his absence last year and have been wildly inconsistent to start this season. He truly is a leader in that locker room.

Marchand has only played two games this season as he moves closer to a return. His absence can’t be understated either. He’s an emotional leader and really sets the tone with his play on the ice.

Barkov will resume top-line and first power-play responsibilities when he returns.

Marchand will return to the Panthers ‘ third line and second power-play unit.

Zach Hyman (RW, Edmonton Oilers)

Timeline: Minimum of 1 more game

Hyman suffered a neck injury Thursday and was placed on injured reserve, meaning he would miss at least three games. With only one point and 12 shots in the six games he’s played since returning from injury, I’m not convinced Hyman was fully healthy in the games he did play. I’d hate to see him rush back only to suffer another injury and compound the issue.

The Oilers play Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday this coming week. Hyman is guaranteed to miss Tuesday’s game. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him miss Thursday and be a game-time decision on Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks.

Devon Levi (G, Edmonton Oilers)

Timeline: A few weeks

Who this benefits: Tristan Jarry (G)

Levi was on his way to claiming the number one job in net before this injury. He was 6-1 with a 3.11 GAA and an .887 SV%. They aren’t sparkling numbers, but they had been better than Jarry’s.

That is, before Jarry’s last two starts. He’s dropped back-to-back shutouts and has looked like the Jarry we have all put misplaced faith in before. For the next few weeks, it is Jarry or bust.

Troy Terry (LW/RW, Anaheim Ducks)

Timeline: Should return over the next couple of games

Terry was a full participant in Saturday’s practice, which is a great sign. It’s interesting that even though he was a full participant, he is still listed as day-to-day. That appears to make him doubtful for Tuesday’s game and likely for Thursday’s.

It looks like he’s trending toward playing his first game of the season this week.

Filip Gustavsson (G, Minnesota Wild)

Timeline: 2-3 weeks

Skating regularly is a big step in his recovery. We still have a couple more hurdles before he rejoins the Wild. Expect him to begin taking shots and then rejoin the Wild for a couple of full practices. A conditioning stint in the AHL for one or two starts is also something I’m expecting before he plays.

Devin Cooley (G, Calgary Flames)

Timeline: Week-to-week

Just as the hockey world was falling in love with Cooley, Colton Dach (LW, Edmonton Oilers) falls onto him in the crease, and his knee bends awkwardly. He was well on his way to stealing the starting job from Dustin Wolf (G), who was struggling mightily.

Cooley was 4-0 with a .955 SV% over his last four starts. Let’s hope he returns and maintains his mojo.
