2019 NFL Draft: Atlanta Falcons Select Charles Lindstrom

With the 12th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft the Atlanta Falcons pick Charles Lindstrom out of Boston College

With the 12th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select not Jawaan Taylor but Charles Lindstrom out of Boston College. Although I can’t agree that Lindstrom is a better interior lineman than Taylor is, I agree that they are going to get immediate use out of the 308-pound lineman.

Lindstrom bounced between right guard and right tackle his entire career at Boston College and was the anchor for the best offensive line unit in the ACC. He’s started since his freshman year and multiple All-ACC mentions. As a player he has elite quickness and he’s a good downfield blocker as well. He’s strongest in pass coverage and will ride a block all the way into the ground if that’s what it takes to get the job done.

He has short arms and tends to take a bigger hit than he gives. He can’t quite get defenders out of his range due to a lack of arm strength but makes up for it with an unwillingness to quit on a play. His run blocking isn’t at an elite level but he can still get the job done so you can ride Devonta Freeman to a championship.

Fantasy Impact of Charles Lindstrom

I still think they should’ve went with Jawaan Taylor but they do get a guy that will play right away. Lindstrom will have to come in and compete with James Carpenter and Jamon Brown but I still see him getting the start in week one of the NFL. He’s a scrappy player who will take on anyone who comes at him as he’s had to do with playing Clemson’s front over the past several seasons.

Matt Ryan benefits from the acquisition more so than Devonta Freeman as Lindstrom is strongest in the passing game. Ryan should feel a lot better this season with an improved line that won’t allow him to take 42 sacks this season. Maybe Julio Jones won’t take as long to score a touchdown now that Ryan isn’t running for his life every play.
