Let’s be real: There’s only a handful of viable tight ends in fantasy football that you feel comfortable about starting on a weekly basis, matchup be damned. Well, friends, I think it’s time we add one potential tight end sleeper to the list. His name is Brevin Jordan.
Say what?! Your fantasy football league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax last season? Unthinkable! Check out all the features Fantrax has to offer, and we think you’ll be singing a different tune for next season.
Opportunity Is The Name Of The Game
Travis Kelce. Darren Waller. Mark Andrews. George Kittle. We know the names by now. The players who are always off the board first at this position. Mix in an Ertz, or a Goeddert, or a Hockenson, or a Tonyan. This year, it’s Kyle Pitts who’s receiving the buzz to step into that elite fantasy tight end category. But what if there was someone that was under the radar that could win you a league? Would you want to know that information? Well, for just $9.99/month, you’ll find out. JUST KIDDING! I’LL TELL YOU FOR FREE! IT’S BREVIN JORDAN!
Here’s some background. Jordan is a 6’3″ 250lb TE out of Miami, where he was a three year starter. He was the number one tight end in his 2018 recruiting class, and scored seven touchdowns last year at Miami, despite being hurt for three of his team’s games. The year prior, he was a Mackey Award Finalist (Nation’s Top Tight End). Much like Kyle Pitts, he played primarily out of the slot, and is a great route runner. The difference between Pitts and Jordan is that Pitts has the combine stats that make every coach’s mouth water. Jordan has average speed and athleticism.
The hype for Pitts is understandable, and I don’t disagree with it. Pitts has all the traits to be an incredible talent, and with Julio Jones gone, he’ll have the opportunity in the form of targets coming his way. This is great for fantasy football players. It provides a safe floor where we don’t have to rely on touchdowns or matchups. In Jordan’s case, I believe he’ll have that same opportunity. The Texans were bad WITH Watson at the helm. It doesn’t look like he’ll be playing any time soon, so we can expect positive game scripts that favor the passing game with Tyrod Taylor at the helm, who is known for being conservative and favoring his RBs and TEs with targets. Further, who else is he going to throw to? Cooks will get every team’s number one corner, and if you want to bet on Anthony Miller, Keke Coutee, Jordan Akins, or Chris Conley, you’re a braver person than me. Those are good players, but it’s a bit of a step down from the DeAndre Hopkins days.
That leaves Brevin Jordan, their rookie TE to get plenty of targets thrown his way. Here’s a quote from Jordan about the system he’s in: “My skill set is perfect for the offense,” Jordan said. “Tim Kelly is a genius with his offensive calling and he loves to move tight ends around. So I think that’s my type of place, just being moved around and creating mismatches.”
At the end of the day, none of us can tell the future. Our best shot to win at fantasy football is to put ourselves in positions to win. Opportunity is the name of the game. If you don’t have a chance to draft the big names at tight end, you might find that Brevin Jordan will give you the opportunity to win you your league.
